Lyrics:
Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools," said I, ""You do not know
Silence, like a cancer, grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you""
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said
"The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound
Of silence"

I am 82 years old and a fan of the S&G version, but I am totally overwhelmed by Disturbed's cover. It is fascinating, mesmerizing, and I simply can't get enough of experiencing the emotion.
This is what great music is all about. World class.
Dennis ❤️
@@wish21100 ?
thats because youve seen so many things in your life and it brings back memories
And great music is also about, and always has been, musicians taking inspiration from one another and building on each other's creativity.
I am middle aged and love the original but I couldn't agree more - this version makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time
Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting there reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you don't feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry ! Tomorrow's a new chance. If you are reading this, be sure to share this around to make others to feel better. Have a beautiful day. :) :)
PRAISE JESUS AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!! BIG HEART!❤
My husband passed away in janu.
He had the most beautiful voice.
Today i lit a candle and played this song for him.
Once a wise man said " when you're happy you enjoy the melody but when you are broken you understands the deep meaning of the lyrics."

Very profound ❤
I felt this. Always had a deep connection with all different types of music depending on my true emotions.

So who's here for Disturbed and Disturbed only?

Me!!

yep!
+BernerCheifs97 HELL YEAH
My 91 yr old father was just humming this. Guess I’m on repeat for the next few hours. Thanks dad
Yeah right
My Dad passed away a few weeks ago. He raised me on oldschool rock, a big fan of the 60s and 70s. This cover always resonated with him, and he played it all the time. He loved it so much more than the original that we played it at his service. I don't have words for how I feel right now, but to Disturbed I would just like to say thank you for this cover. It ended up being so important to my family...
May your father Rest in Peace! best wishes for you and your whole family!
sounds like you had a really cool dad. Lost my dad in 1997. You never get over it but you will learn to live with it and will one day think of him and smile without tears of sarrow.
Disturbed, When this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. I just want to send love to everyone and I want everyone to know things will get better. We are in this together..I love you 💕
Happy life! Enjoy it!!!
Oohh how nice , this song inspired you, keep moving
I saw the same comment on Radiohead Creep song video
Don't poke the bear it pokes back get it. God bless
Glad your doing better
my mom loved this version. She had to hear it everyday. she was battling Parkinsons and Dementia. She had gotten very weak and bed ridden, but we still played this for her at least once a day until the day she passed . It was playing during her final breath. I miss you mom!!

Anyone in May 2024?
My son just saw their concert in Melbourne Australia he is on austism spectrum and crowds and strangers are hard for him he had the best damn time with his 2support workers came home with a grazed chin and bloodied knees. Had a pre seizure event. He has epilepsy .bounced in carrying his new disturbed tshirt and he hasn't stopped talking about it. He is 32 and carried his new tshirt like a gift ,❤

@@parevashmoosavi2363 thank you he has had published 2 books of poetry. He took copies of his books to the concert hoping to give to the band but they couldn't make it happen I think he is going to try to post to them somehow 👍

🙏
he doesn't just know the lyrics , he understands them.
+IamZeus1100 He captures the strength of the message doesn't he. You can practically see the entire world standing listlessly with no inner motivation as slaves to the age and modernism silently allowing themselves to be led on after hearing this rendition. Of course, not everyone hears the same interpretation to this song. But that's what makes it a work of art though doesn't it?
+IamZeus1100 I work in customer service at a corner store and after watching people throwing their weeks pay at a system built to steal their livelihood, I have to say this music really speaks to me. Don't ever support the lottery guys. It's the most depressingly broken thing in society and the amount of people it snares is sickening. There is a good reason why the poor people spend the most on it.
I closed my eyes while listening to the song. wow, that's so powerful, isn't it?
+Jeremy Curpen yes yes it is
yes man yes
once a wise man said:
"when you're happy you enjoy the melody but, when you're broken you understand the lyrics".
Is that the truth... Totally agree 💯👍💜😁😇
Who said that? That’s very profound
That's brilliant and so true.
True that
So deep and so true
My family just used this for my Father's funeral. He loved this version so much, even at 84. So powerful.
Sorry for your loss
Siento mucho su pérdida 😢😢
May he rest in peace.
I’m sure he would have been overwhelmed
Had this played at my daughter's funeral two years this May she loved this version of it she was just 52 years of age went to bed didn't wake up from her sleep .😢💔
I'm a little old lady and this is my favorite version of Sound of Silence.
I love this version too
At 3:16 if your eyes aren't welling up right then, you don't like music. period.
Oh dang.... 3:16. wonder if that was on purpose.... awesome.
+Strikerage I hope you're not bringing Western Asian mythology into this. The song is about human interaction, or lack of, not supernatural beings.
Jody Mullis Jesus Christ... Get over yourself.
+Jody Mullis What are you going on about lady? Western Asian mythology, what? And human interaction? No. This song was made about Kennedy after his assassination. Simon and Garfunkel said that themselves.
+Strikerage or you just don't cry, like me :/
A splendid, timeless song! How many here to listen to it in 2024?

26K people have disturbed the sound of silence
lol
Yup
25 out of those 26 probably changed their minds after listening for a second time
60% of the time, they're right, every time.
yes it is
From Wikipedia: "Garfunkel once summed up the song's meaning as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other.""---That sounds a lot like where we are right now.
.
Maybe. But just because one person isn't connected to their feelings doesn't = we ALL have his impediment. Garfunkel was an odd guy at times, like all of us. I'm a realist. I think that sociopaths have taken over by promising the lie of immortality (religion) which they neither understand nor care about. There are still principled people out there who aren't sociopaths--- they're codependents- lol.
I laugh, but I'm serious. Codependents are those trying to understand why the sociopath is pushing a blade through their heart. "They must have a good reason to do this", and, "what happens to me doesn't matter as long as I please this random sociopath". Or, something....The issue is that sociopaths don't react better if you're kind to them. In fact, it might be worse. Liars believe everyone is lying. Thieves believe everyone is going to steal from them.
If you're kind to them, they will immediately go on high-alert! "No one is nice unless they want something or are lying"!
Better to just take control. At their core, they're weak, angry, emotionless, and have terrible self esteem which leads to liking to torture others in whatever way they can. Not the sort you want in charge of other people, wouldn't you say??

Never would've expected a metal band to cover Sound of Silence this well.

you should check out symphonic metal dude
this is basically what they do (with more metal guitar riffs tho)

hi voice!!!!😍
This was one of the favorite songs of my dad, and thanks to it he discovered Disturbed, which then became one of his most favorite music bands ever. He passed away 12 days ago, after 6 weeks of fighting Covid-19. And this song played at his funeral. I love you, Dad. And I miss you so, so much.
I'm so sorry your loss. ❤️
He now resides with the profits and God almighty.
Im sorry to hear that.. I know the feeling, the pain never fades, but in time you'll become numb and it becomes easier but the man who raised me has been gone for 7 years now and i still cry every time i see his photo in my wallet or talk about him even this post actually took a good 15 min to fight nack tears but i wont let his name be forgotten in my lifetime it was Billy Carl Tresner
So i hope you are handling your loss better then i did but i remember the ancient Egyptians believed that we all die twice. The first death is body. The second one. is the last time someone speaks your name.

My condolences. RIP.

Now 50 years later I see kids listening to Led Zepplin and wearing Pink Floyd t-shirts and singing "Sound of Silence" I gotta say, Dad (RIP) you know I love you but they don't laugh at our music, they just remake it.

Two months ago I happened upon Disturbed doing The Sound of Silence.I'm 60 years old and had never before heard of Disturbed, but after hearing David's most awesome rendition, I fell in love with that soul-grabbing voice and am now a devoted fan of everything he does. Thanks David for bringing up some ghosts from my far past and making them even better. You have captured my imagination again.
David K. I am a 55 year old 'Metal Grandma' who has been a Disturbed fan for many years! Then this song came out & I am also 'in love' with David's powerful & SOULFUL voice! Today I see a new video from the same album/CD called Open Your Eyes & the comments are so very misguided! It's also a great tune to wake up with! Strap on the headphones & enjoy friend. Shalom.
I don't know why, but your comment gave me the feels ❤️
I'm 15 years old, I have loved any form of Rock for most of my life. I despise the sound of Rap and Hip-Hop, But this song is probably my new #1 song. The original following very closely.
My dad is 58 and while hard rock isn't out there for him he doesn't really listen to the new stuff. more old school. ozzy, Aerosmith ect. he bought the cd JUST for this song lol. he had us all in his radio room just so he show us the video and listen to the song on his speakers lol said my phone did it no justice lol
He has an amazing voice for sure. Everyone has their own interpretation of the lyrics, I'm on board with David Draiman as far as this darker vocalization. The Simon and Garfunkel beat should be with some lyrics about how two young lovers reunite. The harmony and bounce of it would at least match the lyrics better. All personal opinion though. To each their own.
I shared the most important part of my life (24-33) whit my first dog, Alas. She teached me the meaning of responsability, the happines who come to the sacrifice for the loved one and above all, she saved me from the bloody and dark beast of the loneliness. I learned so much from she and i hope some of this teaching will be transferd to my newbon... Today is 6 years that she is gone, far away, but never distant, but still today the tears neve stopped to fall...
The first time i listened to this song is the day she is gone (May, 2) , the day i choosed this song to be my condolences.
Dont say ''is only a dog'', becouse they are not only part of the family, but part of the soul... And the Love never dies...
IAM 75 yrs old love this song over the years this gentleman can really do the song justed what a voice can't stop hearing him singing it totally awesome 💯👍
This song should be studied at school among the greatest pieces of literature. It's still incredibly actual, more so with every passing year.
Thank you for understanding it so.....gives me hope for humanity
I gave both you a sub 😊
S&G should be, yes. This version is amazing too though.
Today in my English class we studied this song😊!
Sirs.. just a note from an old lady who accidentally found this version of a much loved song while looking for the older version.... and fell in love all over again. Such a magnificent performance of this lyric. Well done! Very well done! Not generally a fan of your style of music, just a little too "much" for an older music pallet, although I have to say that I do very much love many of your lyrics and the raw passion and righteous anger they invoke in me over the injustices and pain we suffer on this prison planet... but your version of this song... damn... when I heard it, I was so moved. In a completely different way from the way the older version always made me feel. By the last verse of the song I find myself breathless, my heart pounding... I want to join the "ranks" and break the silence..... Thank you, it has become a favorite on my playlist!
I also have to give a big holy crap to whoever put the graphics to the music. Perfection. And the lead singer's performance was also complete perfection. Perfect punctuation to the lyric and rhythm of the music. God this just fucks me up every time I watch it. It's so perfect for the time we live in right now. Thank you...
You don't type / seem old.

thank you, I think... looking at 59 soon, but young at heart.

Garfunkel once said the song is about "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly intentionally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other." This is such a profound rendition of this song. Listened to it over and over again and feeling the pain right now in my daily life. God speed to those who feel alone and unable to talk to others.
In a world that's increasing divided, and specifically isolated by the pandemic, the message about people unable to connect to each other and understand each others minds is especially true.
You've said it all!
So true. God, may You show us the need to love each other closely, and appreciate community!
In this day and age of technology, I see the masses gathering and saying, but not listening.
Posting replies is now the norm of "communication", disturbingly so, as the song implies...
"We" (all of mankind online) are loosing touch with what is actual communication, aka give and take, listening and reciprocation of the verbal, the total digestion of and integration of the information from the individual.
If we do not return to a form of personalized and intimate interactions, then we might as well not bother with such things as "individual rights".
Why bother speaking out if no one is willing to listen, why bother with speaking up if no one is going to reply.
I am referring to the "online communication" specifically, as the simplistic approach of it is actually quite damning and very much NOT truly communicating... like watching a movie and declaring a feeling of connection to the characters. True as it may be, still only a placebo to the real thing. An illusion of, but not to replace... just as a written sentence carries not the intricacies of nuance in spoken, all online is but a farce to what is really happening.
Virus or not, this isolation predates, and is far more prevalent than just a few years worth.
Artists have seen it coming for a long time, the signs ignored all the same...
...if anyone has read this far, I give you my hope, I give you my praise, and I have faith that you will take from this how truly precious another's time truly is.
Don't cry, I will handle that part.
Smile and let them know how you feel about their times with you!
What a voice! Thank you for the info on the song.

Es ist der Welt egal!!!!
@@udofunk5409i care bro
She will always be with you, every step ❤️
Stay strong bro👊🏽
@@je710817 Thanks.
Simon and Garfunkel would be proud of this new Interpretation.
Why not?
all the way to the bank.
They already are. They commented on this version already
That says something because you gotta have brass b@lls to copy one of their songs, especially one like this. But these guys smoked it: the recalibration, voice, video. A rare case where the cover perfected the original.
hope this is ironic
Anyone who has never had heartache from someone dying will never understand the ever lasting pain
Goosebumps on 25 April 2024 officially.
Not a huge fan of disturbed. Like a few of their songs, but most of them felt generic over the years, but holy crap this blew me away. Glad to see that he gave the song the respect it deserves, while still making it his own.
ikr
I have listen to the others that have made their version
of this song and there is no one that can match the way you can sing it. thank you for the remake I think it is great

I do agree He has done an amazing job on this
+Mathew Haight This one is a cover, maybe that's why It doesn't sound generic to you?
“You can’t touch music, but music can touch you.”

+Jared Vicente El himno de la primera trilogia fue Mad World, al parecer ahora sera esta.
le queda esta cancion
I am listening and I just came back from seeing my older sister who is dying. This is the song she wants played at her funeral. It just breaks my heart whenever I hear.
I want to hear him sing Hallelujah ❤
This song makes me think I'd really like to see a performance of Les Miserables with David Draiman cast as Javert. His intensity would be awesome for the role.
That would be amazing.
+Shawn Willden That would be remarkable. Imagine him instead of Russell Crowe in the recent film.
wow. mind officially blown thinking about how that would play out.
Yes! Though I could see him as valJean as well
+Shawn Willden - oh what a fabulous thought - Love Les Mis and I am Australian but Russell Crowe as Javert was not a good choice
I lost my elderly mum just over 4 months ago. I used to play music to her regularly of which she loved this song by Disturbed. She was 92 yrs old and had vascular dementia. Makes me cry when I hear this song but I know she is around in love and spirit.
I'm sorry for your loss. This is a beautiful song to remember her by
If she was 92 years old I can tell you right the fuck now, she did not like the that group of players. Simon and Garfunkel was who played this song. Not that shit crap remake of garbage
I believe she's still around you. She still loves you.❤
Sorry for your loss, may she be resting in peace, may her memory bring you more smiles than tears.
so very sorry for your loss. I lost my mum 2 years ago and it's as fresh today as it has ever been. Think of the happiness your mum felt in those moments you shared, let that joy into your heart and feel the happiness she must have experienced. You gave her that.
Disturbed with David Draiman I discovered by accident and David’s voice is incredible . I am now a fan of this fantastic band…
This song is one of my favorites. Sung this in choir in like 74. If we could have heard this version we could have gotten into it
Man, I had no idea that Howie Mandel was the lead singer of Disturbed. What a talented fellow.
lmao same
What
***** you're a dumbass
I was thinking Kevin Pollak but Howie is more accurate... and funnier.
props
okay who the fuck had the decency to dislike this masterpiece?.
Maybe they preferred the live version on Conan? :-) (I did.)
Shay T.
You mean audacity not decency.
Shay T. Because simon and garfunkle did a better job then this
Ethan Males the original is always better, without it there would be no such thing.
I disagree Disturbed killed it I think they perfected the song. Hands down way better than the original
Anybody 2024 April ?😢
I listen to this every single night after my treatment for prostate cancer and it makes me feel better to be able to see the world through other peoples life that they have had or could have had.
Wishing you the best. My husband was also treated for prostate cancer.❤❤

Good almighty bless You and your family
Thank you and right back at ya! ;)
thank you for this, you too c:
I swear David Draiman turns into Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek sometimes. Legend. 👍⚔️🔥
Dedicating this to politicians, those in authority and power over Innocent lives currently affected by conflict in all places around world right now, (especially Gaza and Ukraine).
" Please!!!, Let us all be the voices of the Innocent Victims"
When you are listening to him building his voice up, just as you think he is peaking, he just gives you a little more, the man has a beautiful gift.
lol wtf
@MU FC First of all.. wtf?
And second of all, I've never heard a football fan call football soccer..
@@D3nn4zz What is soccer in England, is called football in the US. What England calls football we call soccer… it’s weird.
@@wannabedrewafualo That isn’t true at all 😂 What you call soccer, we call football, what you call football, we call American football
