Steve, I had previously asked about the operation of the taco valves, but since then I found two of your videos, this being one of them, the other was the one you showed the wiring of a step down transformer which would energize the boiler control after going through the teco valve number two to three after 90 seconds. Want to say a big thank you for helping out us newbies to hydronic heating system understanding..
I never criticize any one else's professional work. I only put forward what has worked for me over the past 45 years of plumbing repairs and installations. Keep up the good videos for showing others how to complete tasks that they may otherwise not try,.
Hello Steve: Yes some fittings do leak but none that I have installed have had that happen in several years. I have also seen some sweated joints leak after a few years of use as well. Water conditions tend to make or break any kind of joint. Depending on the amount of sulphur dioxide and other elements now found in much of our potable water. Changing all of our pressure lines over to PEX has solved all leak questions. Using it now for several years and could not be happier with the results.
I like boilers but there just about gone around here. I hardly even carry any parts at all for them these days. Oil is very scarce now a days too around here. Its nice to see ya working on stuff i dont get to work on myself very often
My mothers heat is on and can not be controlled. Does this mean that one of these zones valve does not work? because it does not close the water from passing by? I replaced the thermostat in the house , but that made no difference.
I have to bleed my system every 2wks., to stop the boiler from making a banging noise. The noise goes away after bleeding for about 2 wks. After 2 wks. there is air in it again. Air keeps building up in the system. All 4 zone valves do open at some point when the thermostat calls. Now when the boiler is making the noise i pull down on the second or third valves and the noise stops every time i do so. Sometimes when i pull down on the fourth floor it stops but not always. The only one that never stops the noise is the first floor. Any thoughts as to what might be wrong here and how i can diagnose it. In the past that same noise was a bad zone valve not opening causing the water in the boiler to make steam.
My question is: Why not use couplings on each side of the valve instead of soldering to make any future changes easier. Today shark-bite connectors could be used if 3/4 inch. TACO threaded valves are installed instead of sweating the connections. Is there a reason for not using this alternative method.
What does something like that cost? I have a valve that sometimes stays open and heats up the house like crazy. Not sure if it's a voltage issue or a valve issue.
+steven lavimoniere understand. That though never crossed my mine . Great idea so your not struggling with water causing soldering complications. thanks for the reply!

I believe my taco valve is stuck and wont close. Because at my home i replaced the top of the valve $85 one, and the heat at my house is on full blast. As if the valve is not closing with the thermostat.. Any advice? i will try to do this # Im scared there will be air bubles in my heater and ill have issues heating certain areas of the house if i do this wrong and theres air in my heaters. #but the real question is : " Valve bad or not" ? I feel like takign it out and doing a test with a water bottle.
caps on the boiler drains on each zone to keep from genius home owners opening the gate valves and scalding themselves as well as leaking gate valves. I know code officials require caps on zone purge/drain valves. I love the quarter turn drain valves..but they do cost more but don't leak. I give the owner a preference. sorry for the multiple replies but they limit my characters per reply for some reason. I'm surprised you use that size turbo torch tip for soldering. my old boss would freak on me if I used that size tip usually reserved for brazing large copper.
Who taught you how to solder? You put the HEAT to one side and the solder to the opposite and it gets sucked in around the joint. NOT stabbing the flame with the solder as you did. Jimmy L

Thanks for the video Steve, glad to see you got it straightened out!
Michael Milburn i thought it was just the head at first .but it was the base that was leaking by ..kind of a freak thing . they usually hold well
I was told there was gonna be Taco's....I'm a little disappointed. On another note, nice plumbing work!

John Davidson skark bite fitting leak ,soldering is not hard if you have a clew what your doing
shark bite? two words, pro press

Nice video Steve.
octaviano mora she came out good
one more question would be why do you have a bleeder, after the new power head, facing downward vz upward?
+PatrickNJ so i do not build up steam and blow the solder out
+steven lavimoniere understand. That though never crossed my mine . Great idea so your not struggling with water causing soldering complications. thanks for the reply!

That's good to know ive changed the pressure valve's and still didn't have heat on the the 3rd floor.that was my problem.thanks.
why did you opt to change the whole valve body rather than just changing out the "guts"?
gmoneyga84 thats how i do it,, the whole valve .. if there is a problem ..
why do you have a zone control with taco power heads?
+PatrickNJ thats what was there .
steve , where can i buy this couping with bleeder on it, i just can,t fint at home depot and lowes,,thank you
+chen chris go to a plumbing supply house they will have them
This might sound like a ridiculous question to you guys but what is the benefit of having the bleeder valve vs a coupling pipe without one?
The baseboard tee saved my ass the other day!
Truckguy900 Truckguy900 i use them all the time
Another great video Steve!!! By the way I like the colorful bra hanging on the rack !!lol
Harry Dickson lol you noticed the bra .i was thinking you might

Thank you for the detailed instruction saved me hundreds Steve

I hope it’s just my head that’s shot. Cuz I don’t have those pliers. And I don’t have a pipe cutter that big. Lol
Cheers Steve Mang.
