I was very much a fallen away Catholic a C and E Catholic if you will. I began watching the chosen and it brought me back to Mass and brought me back to confession after 30 years.. 😢😢🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love The Chosen. It really brings the Bible and it's people to life! I, too, have been reading my Bible & praying more regularly since watching this amazing show. ❤
You beat me to the clarification of the plot outline for the final 3 seasons. I was going to add that I think Season 5 will start with Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, and end with the Last Supper, going to the Garden of Getsemane, and the betrayal by Judas. My understanding was that Season 6 was Good Friday - after Jesus arrest, being brought to Pilate, Caiaphas, and back to Piate, to scourging and walk to Golgatha, to death on the cross, but also including taking down His body from the cross, wrapped in the linen cloths, and placed in the tomb (involving both Nicodemus and Yussif. Season 7, as you said would be resurrection... Easter Sunday, to ..... we don't know.
Archbishop Smith certainly gave us a real good account of our Lord, Jesus’ life and his apostles. Thank you Your Grace, For bringing reality to the TV production project of the ‘The Chosen’. God Bless.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and how this program has touched your lives. God bless you and I look forward to watching more from your channel.
I have really enjoyed this discussion. I’m in the uk and I love The Chosen too and I think this series is a fantastic chance for everyone to come to know Christ 🙏
Dallas Jenkins has said there are three reasons for the title, "The Chosen." (1) The Jews were "the chosen people" by God. (2) The apostles were 'chosen' by Jesus. (3) Jesus is "the Chosen One" by God and by his followers. So the Archbishop's intuitions are correct!
I can understand that it is not enough for protestants to accept that Peter is not the rock on which the Church of Jesus is built, when He says I will build my church on this rock. But when Jesus says that He will give him the keys of the Kingdom ( church) then that should be crystal clear.
Thank you ❤ Shalom Shalom 👏 loved your perspective and insight of what it means to truly be a disciple of Yeshua and how this is being portrayed in the lives of His disciples. 🕊🔥
Great interview. The Holy Spirit gave Simon the knowledge of who Jesus is. That is why he was named Peter the rock. The Chosen is the best Christian show that I have ever seen. I have come closer to God through this show. God bless each person that is in the show and crew. Great acting.
For me, it's all in John 21:10-11: Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you just caught." So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashore full of 153 large fish. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn. Peter (the Pope) brought the fish (there are 153 different types of fish, representing every type of person) to Jesus in a net that doesn't break (the Church).
These are not spoilers right now as I’m watching this because the whole thing is out there for everybody. So if they don’t want to know, I still want to watch them. They don’t have to watch this. And by the way, season six is the crucifixion and season seven is the resurrection.
I thought the Thomas subplot wasn't needed but love most of The Chosen. For a protestant based show, it's given me so many moments to meditate on. The protestant pastor did correct Dallas that in different languages it did mean "the rock". He's trying not to offend while filming. Jon doing John 6 at the Eucharistic Conference, was his way of doing what he couldn't on the show. I also agree with Judas being on board but the wrong ship. I feel sorry for him because he thought Jesus would fight like he got out of stoning and the cliff. The crushing blow showed he didn't care about the money, he just totally misjudged him. I also feel for someone who had his master tell him to "go and do it quickly" That might have made him think he was understanding his motive. Maybe
Trusting the Lord in our trials was very well explained ….although in our earthly life the mysteries are still difficult .I especially liked how we choose to follow it is not forced on us, but a choose. We are called to serve, we choose to follow and serve. Thank you Lord >
Your grace and you made me smile so much when you said you’re not accustomed to walking around like a billboard and then I imagine what the Archbishop or Cardinals dress like if I saw your roaming collar… Yeah, you’re not used to being a billboard I say that lovingly…
I did not remember events in the Bible that I read /was taught in religionclasses when I was in primary school The Chosen reminded/taughr me a lot and I admire allthe actors who portrayed characters ina brilliant way Thanks God for the creators of the Chosen
I’m a cradle Catholic I’m older and this has been bringing life to my Bible studies. Jesus was real apostles were real. This series is put on by a very holy deeply in love, evangelical Christian, who is much more in love with Jesus than many Catholics. Catholics can get caught up in legalism. This is Lectio Divina, in action in front of our very eyes I’m glad you watch this Archbishop and I’m glad that it’s out there. It has changed peoples lives. Jesus is alive and this just shows it more readily. Thank you.
I see Jesus showing us to let go of human resources, and trust in Divine Providence, in order to become stronger and wiser and detached… He came to us as a poor Messiah to teach us that The Kingdom of God is spiritual and things, health, etc. have no bearing on Heaven and earning sanctity. ♥️🙏♥️
Archbishop is right on- Dallas said “The Chosen “ is 1- Jesus is the Chosen One; 2- The Apostle’s are Chosen by Jesus; 3- the 12 tribes of Israel are God’s Chosen people. 👍😁
One reason Christ doesn't rush to Lazarus is because He's that far away (three days journey i believe) that He wouldn't have arrived before Lazurus's death anyway.
the bible roundtable after each episode includes a Rabbi who explained that Jews in the 1st century understood that when we die the soul hangs around for 3 days by the 4th day there would be no doubt that Lazarus would be dead - further sealing the miracle of raising from the dead not waking him from sleep or a mistaken death he could wake from
I think the reason for the title of The Chosen is threefold. For sure, it refers to the apostles as his chosen followers. But I also think it refers to the Jewish people as the chosen people. And lastly of course, it refers to Jesus as the chosen one. Just my interpretation, for what it's worth. BTW, this is Nicolas's wife, Bobbie, writing this.

I came across the show very early and that it focused on the disciples and people who interacted with Jesus was kind of the secret sauce that made it transcend it's "christian media" genre. It's simply a good tv drama.
The 3 days is a Jewish tradition that says that it takes three days for the soul to completely leave the body. Lazarus had to be really dead for the full effect of the resurrection in the Jewish context. Jesus himself was three days in the grave before he was resurrected! It’s important not to lose tract of the Jewishness of Jesus in context.
Wrong. Season 4 ends with them preparing to go to Jerusalem. Season 5 is Holy Week. Season 6 will follow all the events of the Passion. Season 7 the Resurrection.
Jesús didn’t go for Lazarus because He wanted for his disciples to know that He is The Way, The Truth and The Life. Similar but a bit different was with John the Baptist, He was called to go, but He didn’t go, cause John had accomplished his mission and the disciples had to see what you sometimes have to do to follow Jesus, especially in the Apostles case because they were going to be martyred except John.
These are spoilers right now as I’m watching this because the whole thing is out there for everybody. So if they don’t wanna know, I’m still wanna watch them. They don’t have to watch this. And by the way, season six is the Krista fiction and season seven is the resurrection
I firmly believe that this show can be a benefit the faithful to the extent of the visualization of Christ’s Ministry. This being said it is not any replacement for The Holy Bible. If anyone watches this show and does not read our Sacred Scripture, this is a grievous error. There are too many falsehoods, fairytales and additions in this production, mainly surrounding the Chastity of our Blessed Saint Pope Peter, that can only cause detriment to a new Catholic, who is not yet well versed in The Scripture.
If you go back and watch the literal beginning of Ep 1, Season 1. Dallas let's you know up front THIS DOES NOT REPLACE THE SCRIPTURES. He encourages viewers to go to the Gospels..
The reference to our Blessed Saint Pope Peter’s mother in law, is widely understood by the early Church Fathers as an indication the his wife had died. Peace be with you
In the Chosen, when the Lord changed water into wine, why did they have Jesus remove everyone from the room? This is not in the Scriptures and has no value, only if they are trying to create doubt in the actual miracle that took place. There was no actual benefit to the story by having everyone leave when He performed the miracle.
I have a problem with praying to Mary. Where in the bible does it say to do that? Yes, she was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. That is huge. But others are also used by God. I pray to God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Mary is the most powerful intercessor. When Mary goes to Jesus, like the wedding at Cana, He does what she asks. Think about that. Mary was the only human born without sin.
I believe in eternal life, therefore I am able to soulfully pray with the church triumphant, the church repentant, and the church members still here on earth, the church militant, worshiping our Creator. Sometimes I ask my closest friends to pray for me. Do you ever do that?
The problem I have is they deviate from the Bible enough to confuse people who don’t read it. I had people say. I didn’t know Veronica was the Lady that hemorrhaged for seven years. I said that’s because the Bible doesn’t say that. I didn’t know that Mary gave birth to other Children. That’s because there are no words for relatives. In Hebrew and Aramaic they all were called brothers and sisters. Mary remained a virgin. The men said to be the brothers of JESUS, were named as Son’s of others, in the other gospels. Mother Mary was given over to John’s care at the cross, because She had no other Children. I say, stay away from the confusion. There are movies Like The Gospel of John, that fallow the Bible word for word.
Stop watching tv, if they keep their peace, the rocks will cry out" I have images of Jesus with inscriptions on stones in Canada, the war was here, the were a company of priests and prophets with a LOGO! The logos is three names combined JESUS, DAVID. YHW with the ichthys fish swimming through the logo. All language comes from this logos. I've extracted the word from the stone.
I do not believe Christ resurrected Lazarus. Resurrection is eternal. Lazarus was called back from the dead. He later died. But Christ is the first fruits of the Resurrection. Not Lazurus.
Im a catholic watching the series.. we know it's a story line, I know it isn't the Bible but it gives u a better idea or have a mental picture of what one reads the Bible. Jesus was a real person with emotions at the same time God working miracles. Proclaiming the kingdom of God.
I just think it’s a little corny. The show is friendly to the Catholic viewer but the overall vibe is Protestant. It seems they made a creative decision to strip away solemnity. But the relatable and modern tone of the dialogue and behavior doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t find it to be a convincing or realistic portrayal of the people or time period. I guess the show can be used as a jumping off point to fill in trivia knowledge on the biblical setting. But as a work of art, I think it’s cringe and would not recommend it to a non-Christian.
I am a Catholic and I do not think the show has an "overall Protestant vibe". I think perhaps you are watching the show with a bias. We Catholics have to accept that the Gospels are important to Protestants and to Messianic Jews and all who believe in Jesus, not just to us. But there are only a few areas of the Gospels where Protestants differ from Catholics - Peter as the original Pope, the importance of Mary, and the Eucharist. The importance of Mother Mary in this series is as Catholic as it gets. She is a pivotal character with a close relationship with her son. Many Protestants act as though she was a nonentity, but the series does not. Then there was the scene where Jesus makes Peter "the rock" - it isn't the Protestant version. It follows the scripture directly and allows the audience to make up its own mind what Jesus meant. However, I agree that this show has completely ignored the Eucharist, and that is very Protestant. The Catholic actor who plays Jesus, Jonathan Roumie, gently complained about that at the National Eucharistic Congress a few days ago when he read John Chapter 6, The Bread of Life discourse, in character as Jesus. It was spellbinding. During his talk he said the discourse was not included in The Chosen, and it was clear he was disappointed about that. Overall, however, the show seeks to walk a middle ground between the different denominations. BTW, many Protestants complain the show is "too Catholic", so, clearly, when it comes to the Gospels, you can't please everyone.
@@yes2day100 you’re talking about the content of the show. Which I agree, the show is not pushing a Protestant message. It just looks like a work of art made by Protestants. My problem with the show is the design and feel of the show. It doesn’t feel authentic at all. I feel like a watching modern American evangelicals in costume. You see many anachronisms in the show. Stuff and ways of speaking that just don’t belong in a portrayal of ancient times.
@@Rome_77 Fair enough. We all have our specific taste. I personally don't find the dialog to be anachronistic so much as I believe - as Dallas Jenkins has said - that at every point in history, including the first century, people had their own linguistic shorthand, their own euphemisms and in-jokes. We won't know what they were in first century Judea and Galilee, but it is plausible to believe that they did have their own idioms. So to make the show relatable to modern audiences, The Chosen writers use the idioms familiar to us, in place of whatever the idioms were then. I personally much prefer this to the sort of strangled version of language used in most every other film version of The Gospels, where all the characters sound like the written scriptures - it is very unnatural. The Chosen has humanized the apostles in a way that no other work of fiction has ever done, and it has done so without detracting from their progress towards holiness - you can actually watch, step by step, how these very flawed individuals are moving towards their future as saints, and I think that is a good thing. But, fair is fair, we each like what we like! :).
@@yes2day100 if you actually think The Chosen is an authentic/convincing portrayal of near eastern people and that time period, I think you have bad taste (sorry!). I also find it goofy how they have Matthew and John carrying around little modern notebooks jotting down the words of Jesus. Little stuff like that bothers me. The show lacks a certain gravity and seriousness. Very casual feeling and undignified.
I was very much a fallen away Catholic a C and E Catholic if you will. I began watching the chosen and it brought me back to Mass and brought me back to confession after 30 years.. 😢😢🙏🏻🙏🏻

@@Rome_77they try too hard to be a diverse cast. I commented on that with Dallas very early on. I keep waiting for a Jewish cast someday.
Enjoyed this interview. Thankyou. Have passed it on. ❤️🙏🏻
I believe that the Saviour is teaching Peter and the other disciples that the rock is the revelaton of who Chrst is.
