Our tour guide in Israel was a Messianic Jew, and she had a theory that Jesus was forming a new eye from the mud, in the same way that God formed man from the dust of the earth

I remember being stunned in the theater with Ramah's death. The theater was silent for some time after it ended. That said, I can think of four plot points used by the death of Ramah.
    1. Impact on Thomas leading to some of his issues.
    2. Change of Roman authority in Capernaum, freeing Gaius to perform the role we have expected of him for years.
    3. Impact on Ramah's father and his influence with the Sanhedrin and the change in mood and a growing desire to have Christ killed.
    4. Possibly setting up Matthew 27:52-53. "52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many." They could choose random people to rise from the dead, but it would be more impactful if these are characters we know and love.

I liked your analysis at the end. I do think the Thomas and Ramah story was added more for modern audiences. The issue of loosing a loved one is a common theme we can all recognize. The questions that we don't always get the answers to that we want is a common experience among believers. As you said, it draws us into the story. And the disciples (in future episodes) wrestle with similar questions as to the ones we have. Maybe they did not have these exact questions, but they certainly wrestled with human issues common to man.

  • @JeanIsaac-jk5fp

I like that you pointed out that the way Jesus teaches is mostly slightly cryptic and not always crystal clear. This is a great way of encouraging questions and relationship, which is what God wants from us. Life often has paradoxes that are not immediately apparent. When teaching in this way, all these things can be taken into account.

I have had a teaching on the reason for using spit in this instance, part of the messianic miracles to heal a man blind from birth, but particularly, if I recall, prior to this religious leaders were questioning Jesus' legitimacy of birth (particularly who His father was), and I believe I've been taught that there was perhaps significance in Hebrew culture to believe the first born son had healing powers in saliva. So with the religious leaders to witness Jesus healing with saliva, was another messianic sign that He is indeed a first born son (not illegitimate child as the leaders were trying to suggest).

Healing in The Chosen would have to be very different than healing now, simply because so many of us belong to churches where healing is fairly common or because we have been exposed to people that do healing as part of their ministry, so we are like, “Oh awesome” but back then it would be more like, “WHAT, WHAT, WHAT, OMG HOW DID HE DO THAT, THAT WAS SO AMAZING !!!”.

Hello, I am really enjoying your discussions. You mentioned how hard it was for the apostles to grasp the meanings of Jesus teachings, His parables and the understanding of Peter's name change. Jesus wanted more time, like He said to Matthew when getting ready for the Sermon on the Mount. I need time He said. His disciples were still not understanding, but His purpose and destiny had picked up momentum. It was not going to slow down now.

He didnt heal everyone He came in contact with, when He went to the pool, He only healed the 1 guy (z's brother) but left the rest unhealed (historical accounts there were thousands there needing healing. Plus He had to have passed the gate beautiful not healing the lame guy that is later healed in Acts. the hard part about the Rhema scene is the verse that "He healed all who came to Him" and they did depict Thomas going to Him and asking (not to mention ask and you'll receive). I do agree with you about this setting up why Thomas doubted His resurrection so much.

Earlier in the gospels the word All is used, He healed all who were brought to him on some days, and healed the widow's son of Nain without being asked. This was not every day, and always in submission to the Father. There have been instances of healing in my family, and other times of grief when there was not. Even Lazarus did die- I hope as an old man, but scripture does not say, and the Sanhedrin were after him at the same time as they plotted against Jesus. God alone is on the throne and has the authority over life and death.

Here is what I have an opinion on as to why Jesus made the clay. So far I have peace in my spirit on this possibility. The fact is, the man born blind seemed to be in such a bad way that people questioned the sins of himself or his family as the cause. Blindness was not new, nor was it new to Jesus who had already healed some blind eyes. I believe the man was born without eyes as a whole. Not just blind, but incapable of ever seeing because of the lack of eyes. Jesus, through whom all things are created (Colassians 1) made the clay, which we are made out of and actually formed eyes for the man. This is why this miracle was so big in scripture. This is why pharisees couldn't believe he could have done it without demonic help. This was a creative miracle. Putting physical, seeing eyes, where there were none.

Quintus' tax intake likely suffered due to increase in population, use of government services/resources of those people without a commensurate increase in taxes.
people in th the tent city paid no taxes, bought no retail licenses (also a tax), etc. likely, they were not employed. if they sold/traded anything or plied a trade, they competed with tax-paying citizens. they likely bartered for a higher percentage of their needs than city residents.
that means that local businesses made fewer cash (easily taxable) sales to tent city dwellers than city residents.

Three major times Jesus lamented how little the apostles understood what was about to happen. They were as cluless as a rock. Then, suddenly, out of nowhere comes Acts 1-3, and guess who the main speaker is: Peter...now that was a miracle, indeed.

Well, Jesus did go after some of the written commandments… “you’ve heard it was written…. But I say….”

My wife and I personally feel Rhema getting killed was unnecessary, at the same time I get why they are doing this. They’re bringing real life situations, questions and experiences from all believers that may have had been these situations, experiences and have the same questions and bringing them into the show with the disciples at that time to prove that we are all the same and still deal with same issues following Jesus. And also my wife made a very good point that Jesus even said that He didn’t lose one except Judas, but again I get why they did this.

She was a fictional character and the writers created the storyline to add to Thomas's future doubting.

There are 2 words in German for repentance. They are Buße and Umkehr. Umkehr means to turn around/back.

At the pool of Bethesda, only one person was healed in a very specific way, all the others were ignored. People certainly died in large numbers and were not resurrected. So he did not heal everyone, because it is the case that everyone must die.
