I love how the disciples remembered Jesus said He would be back, but left out what He said just prior to that, “tell everyone to keep planning.” How often do we remember the promise, but forget the commandment that accompanies it.

"I'm coming back. [Occupy] until I do." In every episode, there are words that go straight to the heart. Never were those words as universally poignant as they are now. Not to be fearful but to be about His business no matter what the times bring. Keep looking up: "I'm all you need."

I always believed that Peter, about whom the Bible speaks of the most (after Jesus) is the new Christian - on a journey of life, brash but in love with The Lord, a little over-enthusiastic but faithful. Notice that Old Testament does the same, Abraham the Father, Isaac the son of inheritance and Jacob again the most written about, is us. Born deceivers, but on a long journey to mature into the new creature.

My wife caught something very neat when we were watching this episode for the first time. She noticed that it was supposed to be Simon, Andrew, Big James, and John all fishing. Jesus knew what was coming and asked those four to fish... the only four who carry weapons... so that they would not be able to stop him from being arrested. It ended up working out, but she was quick to notice Jesus' intent to take those pieces "off the board" so to speak at the beginning of the episode. Sometimes when we feel like God isn't using us in the moment, it might be because he is keeping us from a situation where we might make a really bad call and he's saving us from ourselves! Love this show!

Also someone pointed out in a comments section for this that the minute Jesus said that 2 of his disciples did have weapons the Roman soldiers were put on the offensive and drew their swords, thus intensifying the drama and the stress for those there, including Mary. It actually put them in more danger by them being there. Jesus had tried to website the situation would be calmer than it became by their disobedience.

When Jesus is sitting in front of Quintas I love his demeanor. I mean, he's not worried, why should he be? I might even say that when Quintas releases him, which was a surprise, that it almost seemed like he couldn't hang on to his concern about Jesus. Like he was derailed by God and then...well, you're free to go... Jesus is calling the shots. Or at least the Father is. What would that be like, to go through life, with that kind of confidence and trust, and FAITH? That nothing will happen to us that isn't God ordained. To fully trust God for everything we go through, good or bad? Wow, I need to work on that for sure.

This is a very good comment, and it is so very pertinent for us today. Especially with the crazy arguing between believers over the -how shall I say it?- the “jab”. If we are in his hands, it doesn’t matter one way or the other what we choose to do as long as we are fully trusting in Him. Until He ordains our homecoming, we are invincible and nothing will change that. We can rest in His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Also, he will be back!

I never thought of it that way until you mentioned that! That is a very good point that it’s a little taste of what’s coming. An “appetizer” of uneasiness and foreboding before the “main course” of pain and sadness, if you will. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve been foreshadowing the whole time that Quintus (considering how borderline unhinged, sadistic and sociopathic he visibly appears to be just under the surface of his façade of politeness) is going to turn out to be the very Roman who personally oversees him be severely be beaten while sadistically giggling “Prophesy! Who struck you?!” right before the crucifixion.

When I watched this episode, all I could think with Andrew was that for the past couple of episodes we watched his emotions get stretched like a rubber band and in this one he finally reached the end and snapped. Noah played it so wonderfully showing that even the most steadfast of us are still emotional beings and when they are running that strong and fearful we will lash out at the ones we love the most.

We had the build up the Andrew snapping. He had been John’s disciple and John was arrested. He wasn’t expecting that…especially for Jesus not to rescue His own cousin. Andrew might not realize his faith has been shaken, but it has been, and now fear is (understandably) ruling

Why unity is important? Unity and harmony is the core of God’s nature. God Elohim is 3 in 1. His will is done on earth as it is in heaven. We come from different nations but whether Jews or Gentiles, we have been unified as 1 in the body of Yeshua. God’s character, plans and ways all speaks of unity. But unity is difficult to accomplish without His help. That’s the work of the Holy Spirit needed to guide us.

Yes! We remember that if all His words and deeds were written down, the books of them would reach around the world. Anything the writers added could have happened as long as the spirit of it is consistent with the Spirit of God as He moves in this world and in His people. The heart of man is what it is on the journey to truth. Yeshua IS truth, and the writers have been consistent to portray Him in a way that never contradicts His character.
I am stunned by the way Roumie's inner being and expressions change subtly as his eyes switch to Atticus's face. There is a depth of understanding in his gaze, a depth between them, that says volumes. Their combined craft is extraordinary. I'm sure looking forward to that arc.

Mary's "Boys!" and Mary M's "Jesus said he will come back" are stellar responses! The first is what a mother does when her adult children keep fighting and she can't fix their issues with each other. Mary Magdalene ends their differences and avoids collateral damage with what Jesus had said so they could trust and obey!

Something just occurred to me is Jesus KNEW what was going to happen and I think that is why he wanted the sons of Jonah, and the Sons of Thunder to go fishing. Because of the reactions of all 4, and Jesus was trying to keep them all safe and free of harm from the Romans

That’s been a popular comment in the FB groups: “…nooo, I wanted to hear the whole prayer!”
And so many folks talked about him saying “mater mia “ when Gaius didn’t seem to understand the word “Eema”…Jesus spoke in a way that Gaius could also understand. As an interpreter, that moment resonated with me so much. 💜

    • @sofiamarie9136
      @sofiamarie9136 3 года назад +8

Jesus is the ultimate interpreter…also “code switching” to speak in the Egyptian woman’s native language as well in a previous episode. I had never thought of him as a interpreter who not only meets people where they at but also literally speaks in the language they can understand, as we also see that with using stories that different groups/educated levels who listened to him could understand and relate to by reaching across cultural differences as well.

Jesus said to Gaius, “Mater Mea (my mother).”
Jesus is son of God, but also son of Mary, a Jewish mother. His human flesh came from her, and came from her “yes” to God. (Opposite of Eve’s “no”). Jesus is God, and also Human.

I thought it was wonderful how Miriam. said "I'm sorry I relied on my own observation, my own understanding, so heavily." as in Prov 3:5 "and lean not on your own understanding"... she fell into temptation when she failed to trust God with her past and her understanding so quickly entangled her again. Jesus even said when He forgave her, "I just want your heart." As in "Trust in the Lord with all your heart..." Such a beautiful display of Prov 3:5 realized between man and Christ... and a sweet reminder for my own understanding and trusting

I found your channel a little while ago. I definitely enjoying hearing your insight of the Jewish traditions and lifestyle of the time. I also like your term extra biblical. It let’s me understand a little more about life in the first century. I also like that you aren’t over critical or take offense to the extra biblical stuff like other reactors. We have to remember it’s a story about Jesus through the eyes of those who know him. And just like other stories about other people, different aspects need to be added to give the story more “meat” and understand that The Chosen isn’t adding to the Bible. If not for the added storylines, it would be a 2-3hour show rather than a series.

This hadn’t come up on my feed so I put it in the search engine. It is wonderful to watch these with you two. The way the writers portray family squabbles and disagreements among believers is very relatable. I’m particularly glad they spoke their thoughts out loud . It made them more real, their reactions very human and diverse, just like in real life. There are as many different personalities here as there are people and the same goes for our churches, synagogues and wherever we go. If we can’t at least voice our opinions, there’s no understanding each other since most of us can’t read minds.
