The scene where Jesus walks past everyone after healing all day, to the end with no talking or music, was for me the most powerful so far. In those moments I felt the weight of my sin but also love for my Saviour.

The actors portrayed how small, how petty, how loveless, we can all be even with Him living inside of each one of us. His love 💘 should break our hearts 💕 so completely that we become the reflection of that love to everyone else, saved and insaved alike.

The argument between Simon & Matthew was perfect. They were real people with real feelings just like us. But what hit me hard was “the look”Jesus gave them. He didn’t need words. All he had to do was look at them and they knew, they were all wrong and just sat down. I thought, how often have I been arguing & gotten that look from Jesus in my heart, and he completely shut me down and I had to rethink my attitude. This is my favorite scene so far. Also when Mary said. He doesn’t need me so much. Even in his tiredness he knew her need to be a mom, & let her minister to him. I will never forget it.

The Chosen is now close to a place in the bible that I was reading a few years ago.
      It was in Matthew.
The part where Jesus was speaking to the scribes and Pharisees. Well there's a lot of Jesus speaking to them but this time when things read it I felt that I finally received the meaning.
GOD just wants all of us to be Friends with Him!
After realizing this, my heart broke after reading, "...he wept." I just, with my minds eye, saw Jesus leaning on a rock, weeping for humanity because he loves us so, so much.
I think that's the day I began my personal walk with GOD.
I had been saved for years, but that day and since, It's Personal!! Thank you Lord Jesus!

Yes it was me too! To be honest I was upset at Simon going after Matthew, but I realized no Matthew left his family everything to work for the Roman government he betrayed them. Also I I got that Mary Jesus's mother didn't know Matthew was a tax collector because it was almost that she was kind of clueless of not knowing that that when she walked back into the conversation from the food she overheard the conversation that Simon was going at Matthew she walked in like very slowly I thought she was going to really get angry and have resentment towards Matthew learning he was a tax collector. That's what I thought the scene was going to happen but then Jesus was walking into the scene coming back from the exhausting day.

As the firstborn son to a mother who raised me as a single mother until I was 12 years old, that part also hit me hard as well as Jesus being exhausted and His mother coming to tend to Him. It made me think that as a 24 year old going on 25, my mom still worries and cares for me as much as she did when I was born, but in a different form since I’m not as helpless as an infant. Still, seeing how she’s willing to make me soup or see how I’m doing when I’m sick makes me feel that that kind of love never goes away. I once thought it would when my other siblings were born but the love is still there and always will be. I’m already starting to cry just writing this

      Hi there,
Um... do you know what they're referring to???
How does wanting to fund this (something I want too) mean that you don't have a relationship with God or our Savior and redeemer?
I felt like their comments were a wee tad judgemental or presumptive, and that they were assuming that wanting to "Binge Jesus" and wanting to fund the whole thing means you haven't found Jesus and already & don't have him in your heart??? 🤔
How are those two things mutually exclusive? They are separate to me.
I am going through a Really difficult time right now caring for my parents with dementia, in their late 80's And living with a life limiting illness too.
This show and much prayer Renews my soul and gives me A Lot of comfort and Peace.
So I just watch what's already been done, over and over until a new season comes out.
Taking care of both of my parents means I get up at 6am and go to bed at around 2am and sometimes get up in the night to help them too.
I don't have time for TV. But I will watch an episode of this, say my prayers, turn my struggles over to the Lord and get a little sleep.
I am so confused. Am I missing something??? 🤔
Maybe you can enlighten my perspective? Idk. Lol. Have an Amazing Day/Evening everyone! ❤

I love when Simon confronts Matthew. It’s totally appropriate, just as Dallas pointed out. It would have been incredibly hard for them to be buddies with Matthew after all he had done. People seem to forget that the moment Jesus chose them that they didn’t instantly become perfect. They were still flawed humans and made mistakes. Think about when Jesus was about to be betrayed and he asked them to stay awake and be with him-they fell asleep. Paul had to call out Peter for being two faced about the whole “must be circumcised” issue. Until the moment they died I’m sure the disciples made mistakes. I love how The Chosen shows how these were REAL people. Not some perfectly crafted fictional characters, but real, flawed people like us. It shows how Jesus suffered, not just the cross, but in a human body. He got tired, experienced hunger, loneliness, anxiety, emotion and physical pain, anger. If Jesus experienced all that, why would Mary not have the usual childbirth pain and messiness? It says in the Bible that the conception was immaculate, not the birth.

  • @charlesmichael9188

I am a 73y/o Catholic. I also believe Mary suffered during labor and her delivery. I think the delivery was long and slow....as she was so young....but the birth was normal. I also see your portrayals of Matthew and Simon are spot on ! God bless you all...this is a beautiful episode.

    • @jemsmom97
      @jemsmom97 4 месяца назад +1

Do you not believe that Mary was born free of original sin? Or that Jesus was immaculately conceived? How then can you not believe in a mystical, painless birth of Jesus? She is perpetually our Blessed Virgin Mary!!
I recommend you read Anne Catherine Emmerich’s account of the vision she was given of Christ’s birth. Of course, as Catholics, are not required to believe in private revelations, but how much fuller my faith is because I do!
There is much written by our early church fathers supporting this belief. St. Ambrose, St. Leo the Great, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas to mention a few.
This by no means is meant to be critical of Dallas Jenkins’ view of the birth of Jesus. I love everything he’s done with The Chosen. I have no complaint about the actress who portrays Mary or the scenes she’s in. She’s just not who I envision when I think of our Blessed Mother.

Same. When Simon first began his speech I became uncomfortable with his tone and I was wishing someone would stick up for Matthew, but then as he continued I realized that he’s actually very correct and as a Jew I can really relate with the sentiment.

    • @nancy0831
      @nancy0831 3 года назад +15

I agree. Though I'm not Jewish, Matthew financially destroyed so many.
The Apostles were not excluded from that agony. Matthew shows no remorse or acknowledgement of what he did and has not offered no apology.
Yes, Jesus forgave all of the Apostles. But the Apostles are human. They are still hurting from Matthew's behavior as a tax collector and the massive effect that had on their lives. Matthew's clothing is a visual reminder of his wealth and their poverty.
The Apostles, along with all of us, are not going to take something so painful throughout our lives and quickly say okay. Especially without some sense of acknowledgement from the person that hurt us. Andrew responds perfectly - Simon Peter is not wrong but could have said it better.
When Simon seeks out Matthew to thank him for the fire wood and finds him writing down what Jesus said and did, Simon's response seems over the top. We have the vantage point of reading the Gospel of Matthew. Simon's response is directly related to Matthew following him around to keep a record everything he did. Natural, honest and human.
Also like the contrast with Simon's actions. He could have easily shifted all of the blame for his actions onto Matthew. He accepted responsibility for his response. Plus he apologized to John and James even though he didn't go through with it.

I think maybe people struggle with Simon's harsh remarks because he reflects us individually in our own ugly moments. We all like to say, "the good, the bad, and the ugly". But when it comes to the "ugly", when we actually see it in front of us and we cringe, we are getting a glimpse of ourselves and don't like what we see. It's easy to forget that we, too, are sinners and have our own harsh moments.
This scene, in my estimation, is raw and painfully honest, and I love that!! It reminds me that we all need to re-examine ourselves and repent when necessary. We want to serve Jesus with clean hearts.

Personally I loved the scene with Simon and Matthew. As a theologian and pastor, I love how you are delving into the relationship BETWEEN the disciples. I can admit that I’ve really never given it any thought at all. The insight you are bringing is so helpful to humanize the disciples. That they have problems with each other is hinted at in the Gospels, such as the debate about who is the leader or the greatest...but often they are just held up as a unified entity. But they were not...they were also humans with flaws and issues. So, this time on their relationships is powerful and I appreciate you showing these clashes and interactions.

      Jesus Never Calls Himself God
The Bible (in spite of being changed and adulterated over time) contains many verses in which Jesus speaks of God as a separate person to himself. Here are just a few of them:
When a man addressed Jesus as “Good Teacher”, he replied “Why do you call me good? No one is good except the one God.’’ [Mark 10:18]
In another instance he says: “I can’t do anything by myself. Whatever I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just. I don’t seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.” [John 5:30]
Jesus speaks of God as a separate being to himself: I’m going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. [John 20:17]
In this verse he affirms that he was sent by God: This is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you sent. [John 17:3]
If Jesus was God he would have told people to worship him, but he did the opposite and disapproved anyone worshipping him: And in vain they worship Me [Matthew 15:9]
If Jesus claimed to be God than there should be hundreds of verses in the Bible which would have mentioned it. But there is not a single verse in the entire Bible in which Jesus says I am God, worship me

You typical Muslims like to cut and paste. Can you be original for once? I bet you never read the Bible particularly the New testament in its entirety. The account of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels during the 1st century were written by eyewitnesses and followers of Jesus who walked and talked with him. The 6th century Isa (counterfeit Jesus) in your Quran on the other hand was a character that Muhammad copied from 4th century heretical gnostic gospels. Such as the Syriac infancy gnostic gospel and the gnostic gospel of Thomas. The story in the Quran of Isa creating a living bird out of clay, and the story of Isa speaking from the cradle as a baby we're all copied by Mohammed from these 4th century heratical gnostic gospels. There's a reason why Christians never included this heretical writings in our Bibles. Its because they were written over 400 years after Jesus by people who were never eyewitnesses let alone from the same region just like your fake prophet Muhammad who was 7th century too late. Which do you think is more logical to believe in? The Bible account regarding the life of Jesus in the Bible written by eyewitnesses during the first century? or Do you think We should believe the account regarding Isa in the Quran written over 7 centuries later by someone who never met Jesus let alone from the same region? The 7th century medieval Isa (fake Jesus) in your Quran has NO historical evidence of his existence, just like the non-existent signs to prove that Mohammed was a prophet but a con-artist, a sex addict and a pedophile.

Hi. I'm not sure if Dallas will read it but I'm taking my chances anyway. We watched this episode yesterday with my wife. I'm a guy who's interested about how stuff works and also in multimedia so behind the scenes for movies and shows is one of my favourite things to watch, it usually makes me appreciate the movie way more.
So when we started this episode I immediately told my wife - look, there is no cold open, interesting. Then the whole shot started and I'm like - look how that extra in the line moves away so the camera can go through. Then the conversation started, I immersed myself in it and after some 5 minutes I asked my wife - did they cut? And she's like - oh, you're right, they didn't. They're doing a one shot! And so it went on and I also noticed the sun going down and I'm thinking, this must have been planned and rehearsed ad nauseam to get ONE shot at the right time. Well I wasn't that far off. So I applaud the boldness and faith to do that. Also nice to see you hired a guy with Arri Trinity, you're not holding back on using the best tech you can.
Apart from technical perspective the ending also hit me. I really appreciate the writing, portraying Jesus as truly being both God and human - healing yet being completely exhausted from it. It's something I don't think we people really get full grasp of, we know it in our head that Jesus was like that but we don't quite get what it actually meant in everyday life. So that is a very nice portrayal (and my wife also adds that Mary's description of Jesus right after birth underlines that).
Same with disciples, I really commend you taking time to flesh out not only their personalities but also personality types and various traits such as Peter being an absolutely bonkers choleric "do before think" ("I do think sometimes"), Matthew being an Asperger's, sons of Thunder, Andrew as an introverted kind of guy etc. The women seem to be a little flat for now, they seem like they are already "there" and don't need any improvement, I hope we'll also get to see their weaker sides and a little more development. People seem to also forget that people 2000 years ago weren't that different to us, they also had personalities, they also had various quirks and they behaved similarly (apart from cultural differences of course).
And one more thing is not from the episode directly but from your commentary here, specifically you talking about your faith and how you pray. It encouraged me to pray more for certain things we're going through in our life (with my wife). So thanks for sharing that as well.

Dallas, I don't know when you will really have "rest" (of course, after the completion of The Chosen) but God bless you for the tireless (says who) hours, weeks, months, and years of writing, directing, praying, and all of the things you do to bring the reality of scripture to the viewers. Born in 1932, I grew up in the Hollywood era and my view of a director was someone who sat by a big camera and yelled instructions to the actors. You have totally changed my view and I am constantly amazed at your "hands on" "in your face" molding and creating the episodes with extreme insight and delicate handling of professional actors. You never make them feel as if they aren't doing it right. They look to you with the respect you deserve as a teacher, coach, and someone who knows what is needed. The Chosen is just getting better with each episode. I can hardly wait until the next one, even in the last few minutes of the one I'm watching. Thank you so much for the example of praying when things seem impossible. Your pain is our gain. The great team that God has assembled for you is the extension of you, and my prayer for them is to reap the same kind of reward as you. That would make a great gift, to have someone make a video of the years of writing, casting, praying, filming, acting, editing, and the myriad of things involved in The Chosen, and making a copy for each of the people God has "Chosen" to be a part of the miracle you are experiencing. Well, I've taken up a lot of space here. God bless you, Dallas Jenkins. Love you and your family and all that are a part.

@Pushing60 I am very aware he's portrayed as being on the spectrum, and I'm not saying anything against him. I'm just saying I can relate to Simon and Andrew's response. Matthew's response was perfect for his character. I love Matthew's character! A betrayal is a betrayal for the person who experienced it regardless of how well meaning the other person may have been. If you feel you've been wronged, you want it to be made right by the other person (which doesn't always happen in real life). Sometimes it takes time and patience for the other person to understand how they affected you through conversations and outbursts of anger or frustration, like this. Matthew doesn't seem to realize the affect he had on them yet, as his reasons for being a tax collector, as portrayed in the show, seem to be more practical (they're going to collect taxes anyways). Yes, he left it all to follow Jesus. Maybe as he better understands the affect he had on others, his repentance will deepen. I'm looking forward to seeing how they work this through and what Matthew comes to understand more about his past life and the affect it had on others, even as someone on the spectrum.

There was no such characterization as on the spectrum back then.
The Apostles (and everyone else, including Matthew's parents) had no knowledge or understanding of the reason for Matthew's behavior or quirks. Matthew would be viewed the same as others. Since he wasn't able to relate to or understand others, they were all challenged. Easiest thing to do was avoid it.

God bless you all. This is the most beautiful revealing of the Bible brought to life, that I have ever had the privilege of seeing. The hard work and dedication of all of you involved in the making of The Chosen, is so very much appreciated! I feel so blessed to have watched The Chosen, and I can't recommend it enough!

You really portrayed Jesus' humanity when he went straight to his tent so tired from ministering and healing the people, he could barely walk or talk. Then him needing his mom. Then his mom ministering to him. Incredible!

As I have said before I love ALL things 'The Chosen' hands down. And once again, that scene from when mother Mary says "he hasn't needed me since we taught him to walk and talk" struck a chord in my mother's heart. And when she was the Only one to get up to help Him cleanse Himself for bed....Oh how it tore right through me. I've many times tried to imagine what Mary went through watching what her son endured and this was THE perfect example of a mother's heart. You're depicting so perfectly the human side of the Lord we serve...and what better way to reach the masses!? Such beautiful beautiful ministry in All of it and in your work!! Seeing what you All have gone through to make every scene not only beautiful but meaningful and purposeful is truly spiritually manifested in everything portrayed. I'm so grateful for you and your works. I think that even the conflict between Mathew & Simon is completely Authentic!!! Because Jesus did not choose perfect Jews to be His disciples, He chose ...the flawed, the least expected, the 'Paul's' because how much greater could He have shown the true transformation His coming would bring!? Always praying for you and ALL involved because your fish & loaves continue to feed us Dallas!!! God Bless you brother ❤️

I absolutely LOVED episode 3. One of my favorite. Yes...the arguments towards the end was tense and uncomfortable.....but it was REAL LIFE. I'm so very sure that the new relationships between a bunch of grown men from very different personalities and walks of life came to a head through out their 3 years together. And mother Mary's reaction toward her son....priceless. Great work Dallas and team 😊

I love the scene with Matthew and Simon. Humans are not always nice to each other we blame and shame each other and then Jesus walks by and they all realise how unimportant their disagreements are 🙏🏼
