The story line on Mary. I was saved when I was very young, Decades later my husband left me and I reverted way back too. I fell into sin and like Mary felt so unworthy of Jesus. I spent a long time in repentance and pleading for forgiveness and "suddenly" I realized He loves me and I was forgiven. I know that He knows what I'm going to do and He's not surprised by anything I do. I love how He loves us. Thanks Dallas, I love this show and I think you and the crew are anointed for this.

@DiscipleDave DotCom Not entirely correct. The Father counts us righteous because of our faith, and that has never changed. Pre-Jesus, people had faith in the Father's promises to Abraham but were still under the curse of the law. Post-Jesus people were made free from the law and salvation became available to all, but by having faith in Jesus Christ being made flesh, dying, then resurrecting on the third day we are baptized in His name. Now the Holy Spirit is available to all who repent and come to faith, whereas before the Holy Spirit dwelled in a temple.

For instance a prostitute come to realization his/her sin and turns from it and believes and follows Christ for eternal life. Be it whatever reason he/she backslides you better believe God is not going to take their soul from the earth. We don't know. That's why it's important not to live in sin. 2. John’s “Yes!” after the deliverance of the demon was 💯🤣👏🏼

Holding onto a scripture, trying with all MY strength to stand on it when the storm rolls in to challenge that very truth! And where am I? Balled up in the fetal position, covering my ears, shaking from doubt and fear. Then my God saves the day AGAIN and I feel convicted that I didn’t stay standing on the truth no matter what. I love that you are “ fleshing out” these people from Scripture… giving us their back stories. Jonathan’s portrayal of Jesus is absolutely hands down the BEST I’ve ever seen. He PERFECTLY captures my Lord’s PERSONALITY… ( Which I know from my OWN interactions with Him) … I love that you show His HUMANITY…. That He struggled sometimes like in the Garden…. That He loves to joke and have fun. ( He teases ME so I speak from EXPERIENCE)
There’s a time to be serious about holiness and repentance and sin and the job at hand… And there’s a time to just ENJOY Him and His company and I think you are perfectly capturing that!

I appreciate Dallas' clarification concerning the episode on another RUclips post. What was unclear at first to me was Mary's reaction before she ran away appeared to be in connection with the demon-possessed man (she held her hand to her forehead depicting the same headache she got prior to being demonized in Episode 1). And she then runs away right after Jesus casts out the demon from the man. So it appeared that Mary was running away because she was being demonized again. I did not make the connection about the Roman being a trigger for her trauma.

“Becoming a Christian” isn't extreme soul makeover anymore than a Disney happily ever after. The preachers like to preach this to collect more souls, status, and money. The disciples, read the Bible, to see the disciples were in a process of change as they walked with the Messiah. “Work out your salvation...” is what Dallas is showing. The relationship between the Shepherd and the sheep, the renewal of their minds and hearts -even after Peter betrays Him not once like Judas, but three times. It's expected, not shamed, that the sheep go astray. It's ok to be in the process...

Yes, we are still just babies when born again. In spite of having a personal transformation, we still have to grow as children and then to fully mature "sons" whom He is not ashamed to call "brothers" and share the inheritance with us. We don't pop out of the spiritual womb perfect. We feel so blessed to walk with Christ and know His mind that it's easy to think we have arrived at the finish line, but we've only just picked up our cross. We still must walk from faith to faith, glory to glory, fighting the good fight,, pressing toward that mark that is so much more than we can even imagine. He is that awesome.

“Work out your salvation!” Yes, a process of daily renewing our mind! Example: Last night, I had scary thoughts because of physical pain. Negativity, fear, anger, etc. When I woke this morning, I repented for allowing those emotions to envelop my thought process, because I know dwelling in those dark places gives the enemy a foothold. I also spoke to the spirit of all such negativity to leave in the name of Jesus. Today, I feel much better. In the past, I have allowed myself to go too far with rage, anger, and hopelessness; at that point, it became an issue of depression. So, I have learned that I must renew my mind daily, fellowship with the Lord, and take captive all thoughts that are not going to lead to fruitful living. My point, we have to do what the Holy Spirit guides us to do as we work out our own salvation, and wash, rinse repeat! We are human, we will mess up again.

Actually I change my mind after watching half this video. If we start questioning if it’s ’plausible’ John The Baptist was wrong, then we can question a lot of our faith. He says he isn’t saying John was wrong, but just putting the question out there. However, from the way he portrayed it, his mind seems pretty made up. I also read of his misunderstanding of Jesus’s “Why have you forsaken me” line, the true meaning of which I’ve heard many teachers explain since I was a kid. Another commenter has kindly explained it in detail.

@@wheelerpat8 I think it's that I do not expect The Chosen to act as Scripture. That said, and from a spiritual perspective, I deeply appreciate it when Dallas's Biblical vision and my own jive; it's gratifying. My comments above we're more from a creative's point of view, and that TC as a media-specific creative endeavor, requiring techniques and directorial decisions based on the limitations and dictates of that media. There is something akin to a "historical novel" going on here, a drama based on historic events. While I understand that Dallas's subject is not a simple historic figure but rather the Son of God and all the weight that entails, I still appreciate that I am seeing his vision through a film maker'sfascinating

Mary is a fairly new Christian so these things will happen. When a baby messes their diaper do we beat them? No, we gently clean them up, and even play with them as we do it. Those of us who have experienced and come through our own mess and messes can help others going through their mess, by *remembering* this and extending love, mercy, understanding and compassion. Not condemnation. Jesus did not excuse my sin when I messed up, nor did He condemn me. He instead pointed to Himself as the antidote for my sin all in a love that made me want Him over sin. I must now point others to Him as the antidote for their sin, and extend the love that I received by helping in whatever way He would allow me to. *It is the way of the cross.*
By the way, I *LOVE The Chosen* and *everthing* about it.🇨🇦

And when we look in scripture, Peter had walked with Jesus for 3 years and yet he responded to Jesus being taken away by cutting the ear off a servant. We can clearly see the way Dallas is portraying the disciples and their human flaws is very biblical because the Jews were no different in their humanity than we are. The only difference is the time and culture in which they dealt with those flaws.

I sure envy those Christians who have never sinned after meeting Jesus. I’ve never actually met any of them though. If they’re really sure they have never failed Jesus after their conversation, maybe they should double-check that with their closest friends or family. I suspect their spouse might be sble to point out a failure or two.

I’ve had times in my life when I couldn’t point out any sins I was going. But as I matured, the Spirit revealed all these things I did that were actually really gross sins. It blows my mind that sone Christians are so blind to believe they are perfect. Even the apostle Paul had sin issues and he did not hide his struggle with the flesh!

We all have sinned and fallen short! These are the very same people who judge, need to remember, gossip is right next to murder in Galatians,, Ephesians, Corinthians! Yet they love to run and gossip about a sister or brother in Christ! They are the epitome of why people of the world want nothing to do with Christians. @Myrrh Solace Haha, I don't believe there's such a thing as a Christian who's never sinned after meeting Jesus, because perfection is something we have to strive for our whole life. Every single Christian sins just like non-Christians sin, because we all have the same fallen nature. (I am Catholic however, so I believe that Mary -- aside from Christ, of course, who is both God and Man and perfection itself -- is the only human who was completely perfect, but as we believe, that is solely because God applied the redemptive graces of Christ's Passion to her ahead of time and in a unique way because Christ needed to enter the world through a completely pure vessel, as he is Perfection.)

It's sad that you even have to explain this to people. It takes a lot of patience and grace on your end, Dallas. Mary's story is similar to mine as well and if there was only episode 1, season 1 of The Chosen, that scene between Jesus & Mary would still be to me the greatest capturing of their relationship that I've ever seen or read about, other than in Scripture. Thank you for allowing God to use all of you as true artists who understand the nuance of Jesus' presence on earth and our lives lived out in his grace. I appreciate many of the things you're bringing out as possible things that could have happened. As an actor, it's good to see Jesus having to rehearse his sermons. I'd never thought he did, but now that you've brought it up, I certainly think it's plausible. Jesus emptied himself in many ways in order to be submitted to the Father. If people can't accept that, or want a packaged god, they find it elsewhere, but not in Christ. Keep pushing the envelope. Let feathers be ruffled. You stay true to your call from God. Prayers & blessings, Monique

_"It's sad that you even have to explain this to people"_
It's the reality of having many denominations with different doctrines and also the fact that we are in different levels of spiritual development and knowledge of the Bible.
There are denominations that believe that sainthood is about achieving near moral perfection before death and that this qualifies those that have achieved sainthood to intercede for the living on earth after they've gone to be with the Lord. With this type of doctrine, it will become a struggle to accept the ideas that the Apostles-- the ultimate saints were deeply flawed. They just have to go and read the Bible carefully for themselves to see the truth and stop this unnecessary saint-worship.
I believe this show inspires, encourages, or simply provokes us to read the bible to gain clarity.
It's all good. May God help us all.

@@thehandofjibreel8756 people are angry because the depiction of Mary is the polar opposite of what is told in the gospels. @@apostolicwatchman8824 Those that are angry should try not to miss the point of the show. Being devout is not a guarantee that one cannot backslide. Peter was fiercely loyal to Christ, yet his strength failed him and he betrayed his Lord when it matters most. What's more important is that there was a second chance.
I do not agree that Mary is the polar opposite of what is portrayed. Little is mentioned of her in the bible to make that claim. But yes, the bible does not say she backslid, nevertheless, the point is not lost: The show has never been about textual accuracy, but about the nature of salvation in Christ Jesus. Remain blessed.

@@thehandofjibreel8756 while I'd conceded that we don't know much about her, what we are given does not depict a woman who was easily shaken. For crying out loud she was at the foot of the cross while all the other disciples were hiding. The scene doesn't even make sense. Why would she get scared and run away when she already saw how Jesus delivered her? God cares very greatly with what we say about Him (Job 42 v.6-7) and while the show may be focused on that, they should try to not get carried away with their creativity. Part of the reason for why I started watching the show was because I liked the fact that it was free of Hollywood-esque dramatizations and it's kind of evolved into that.

    Hi Dallas,
There's something I would like to share with "The Chosen" team.
The other day when I saw a certain scene from the show and looked at each actor in the show, it came in my heart that even as you all act out your character roles, God/ Jesus is calling you into an intimate relationship with Himself and a deeper revelation of who He is and who you are in Him. God will continue to transform your lives through this. It is a God ordained opportunity not a random thing for each of you involved in this show. He is meeting each person individually in the team, right in midst of your working. See what He is doing in you when you perform your role. Lots of love. God bless you all!

Mary's storyline is my favorite because I identify with her so much. I was stuck in an addiction for almost 2 years. It felt like an eternity. I went through the same emotions Mary did: hopelessness, shame, guilt, and despair. Like Mary, I broke free from that part of my past with help from God and friends and family. And like Mary, I backslided. I felt overwhelmingly guilty after giving in to my addiction. To this day I am truly grateful that my conscience was never completely numbed and silenced by continuously giving in to my addiction. With the help of prayer and a pep talk from a very good friend, I got back on track. I am now 4 years, 3 months, and 3 days sober. I'm taking it one day at a time. All this to say that every time I watch Mary's storyline I go "that's me. That's my story too!" I am Mary Magdalene. As far as I'm concerned, I'll always have an emotional connection to how she is portrayed in this show. ❤

I’ve been describing this series as “Gospel, the back story”. Turns some off. Attracts others. Delights me the way you’ve handled it. My wife doesn’t like the colloquial speech. I do. I haven’t spotted any anachronistic phrases yet, so keep it up.
One of my favorite parts thus far is the story of the Good Samaritan told from the back side. Dropped my jaw that did. I’d mention it teared me up except every episode thus far contains a segment that makes me misty. Suffice it to say I eagerly await the release of each new episode.
Re. Mary’s “relapse.” Prior to the Baptism of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost NONE of the disciples had spiritual resources to draw on other than their own. Peter denied Jesus three times for crying out loud. Mary’s relapse is pretty thin gruel by comparison.

"We've never portrayed Mary as a prostitute." ... Then I have totally misunderstood the first episode.
    1) she lives in the "red quarter" - that implies a lot. 2) the episode starts with her in her room on her bed and a man running away saying "she tried to kill me." 3) another man tries to proposition her in the bar at the end and it's made to seem like this isn't a new or outrageous thing to happen.
I feel like those are some pretty suggestive cues if you didn't want people to assume she was a prostitute. 🤷🏻‍♀️
