- This episode was recorded off the air from WNAC-TV. The oxide on this old videocassette is shedding, which made the transfer process very tedious. The VCR's heads clogged about every minute during playback. It was necessary to stitch together 45 pieces to assemble the whole.
All rights are acknowledged.
The raisin in the Raisin Bran commercial was voiced by Paul Winchell, the original voice of Tigger.
This is preserving history right here
September 24, 1981, wow, 2 days before my 11th birthday. Watching this show when there was a day off from school and during summer vacation from school was always such a treat, loved this show!! Amazing to see how much normal people looked and presented themselves.
Zinman Furs in New Jersey, geeeeez. I was living in NJ during this time and remember the old commercials - yes, would never fly today.
The fidelity and video quality is just awesome.
Thanks for preserving this!
It’s great seeing Johnny Olson and these old commercials.
I love the commercials
Great quality. One of the best vintage price is right episodes I've ever seen, with the original commercials! Thanks!
I had just started 4th grade back then. I would have much rather stayed home and watched this that day! LOL
$6,910 for a Mustang in 1981. Well that confirms the age of this video along with the $519 19" color TV.
James Benson she guessed 6140 twice even when told not to, lol.
My, having a fur coat up for grabs. You certainly would not see that nowadays, lol.
Thanks for the effort! Theres nothing quite as magical as vintage TPIR. Much appreciated!
He said that mustang had power windows but I can see the roll up handle
Awesome, I was born just 4 days after this episode.
Watching this episode of "Price" 34 years today.
Reminds,me of my pop pop...good old days...rip pop pop..
💕💞🙏🙏🙏
I cant believe that i JUST watched the whole thing i love T P I R WITH MR BARKER
Exceptional picture and sound quality! Thanks for the commercials as usual!
Hey, thanks for posting these. First the Commercials were just wonderful. Secondly, the History of RKO General is very much a tragic, yet interesting one. Yeah, If I remember correctly, this was when the FCC forced RKO General out of broadcasting for good.
This is funny to watch all the commercials with soon to be famous people and famous people doing voice overs.
What an absolute treat this to watch this as it originally aired on CBS back in 1981. The original commercials, the ads for the primetime lineup for that season was really cool. These entire episodes are few and far between. I'm grateful for what you have on here, but I still wish you had alot more that you can post. I was a huge fan of the show from 1975 up until Dian left in '93 and when Bob started to get to much control of the show and on the models and the staff. All that backstage drama just kind of ruined the show for me, the image of the show back in the day.
when the combination of the safe was in it's default position...it said "666" underneath. but wow...in 1981 a microwave was $600 and 19 inch tv was $519. my microwave cost me $50 and i could get a 40 inch samsung flat screen smart tv for that price right now.
Patricia had the right idea from Chance #2... too bad it didn't work out... :(
Thanks for your efforts! Great Results!
jason hervey in that velveeta commercial :D
from the wonder years, yes.
and wonder years too of course :)
Thanks for sharing
thank you for uploading
Thank you sir !
Wow, after reading the effort you undertook to recover this tape, the outstanding results made it all worth it. The audio in particular sounds just about perfect to my ear, especially in the high frequency range which so often doesn't make it. Did you do any significant audio processing? It sounds like a pseudo-stereo effect has been applied and the dynamic range improved (i.e. 22:13 and throughout where the ding sound effect only sounds panned to the right channel, and at the end of the show.) Granted this could have just been from a very good audio source to the VCR or processing was done when originally recorded.
This video was recorded off the air with a roof antenna in 1981. No processing of the audio occurred at the time of the recording or when digitizing the tape. The tape was played through a time base corrector (TBC) to stabilize the video signal and allow adjustment of the video levels (luminance, black, chroma and hue). A TBC is a vital piece of equipment when digitizing videotapes, though most RUclips folks do not use them...and it shows.
VintageTelevision Indeed, thanks for the extra info about the image processing. It makes an enormous difference. Most impressive that that was the actual audio signal as sent in 1981. As I mentioned earlier, it has lots of fine detail above and beyond what I ever hear in other broadcast recordings (pre HD).
VintageTelevision watch all thro. love commercials. takes me. bak 35 years when kid and no worries. tanx
excrono tanx !!!! I love it
The one thing I never figured out is, how does the dial on Safecrackers work? Others use a red window to make things red, but the numbers are still white here. Never understood how it worked.
What happens to the prizes not won
Thanks for this upload; awesome episode!! God Bless You!!!
Hole in one supposed to turn to two
Omg.. that television price... the answer was SO OBVIOUS T_T i appreciate the audience's outcry
What song is played in the changing family commercial?
Say, did you record these on Betamax?
+NY Retro Vault
The recordings were made on VHS cassettes.
Possibly ultra-HG VHS, as per the clear quality.
+NY Retro Vault Just standard VHS. Time base correction and level adjustment of the VCR's output video is critical to obtaining good results.

VintageTelevision Ahh, I see.
