    This was the 9th season of TPIR at the time when this episode aired in October of 1980. I turned 2 years old 9 days after this episode aired on CBS daytime.

      I sat there in front of the black & white t.v. for years watching with my mom and siblings guessing the prices; oh what memories!!

    Holy Toledo, what was with the budget on this episode? That boat almost could have been at the end of the Road, and then the prizes for those second and third games? This is Bob and the show at their finest. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
    No idea when your grandmother passed, but she seems like a lovely person. My condolences.

      TR47 Today, people make complete fools on this show like they’ve never been anywhere. Back in the 90’s you have a lot of college kids that acted crazy and now you see more older people acting foolish.

      @@a.b.s_productions Someone that went to the casting call said that they look for people with those personalities that act like that on today's TPIR. Otherwise you won't get selected.

    This was broadcast 6 days after I was born. I know it is insignificant to others, but I wanted to see an episode from around the time I was born.

    My sympathies to you Andy.... you know, in a way we kind of share a connection of some sorts with this episode.... this program aired some 4 days before my grandfather had passed away as well... I guess at that time I was 5 but did used to watch TPIR a LOT while growing up too...

      I think the makers used to pay for the full descriptions and probably still do on the rare chances we get to hear the full sales pitch now. Otherwise, "it's a 10 ounce can of tuna".

    The price of the Chrysler New Yorker is $13,630. The same car appeared on the show about a month before this show aired, and the description of the car this time around was exactly the same, so I would strongly assume everything is likewise.

    One US dollar in 1980 equals $3.44 today. For example the watches cost $1,548 in 2022 money. 1975 dollar was worth $ 5.27...

    Was it just me or did anybody hear that in the audio I wound it back… when the Japanese contestant was first called… I distinctly heard somebody say “Ah So!” That was kind of messed up. It was muffled and sounded like somebody tried to remove it from the audio track But it was there

    Hi Andy! I won the showcase on "The Price is Right" show #3921D, aired December 22, 1980 (it was a Christmas show). This was really before people had VCR's, so I never was able to get a copy. Is there anyway you know of to get a copy of this show?

      First known $1 bid on the current incarnation of the show happened on a Dennis James nighttime episode in 1976. The practice itself dates from the Cullen version, but it seems nobody remembered it for several years.

      Bob Barker actually banned fur coats on the show starting with the second week of Season 11 and he became an animal rights activist following the death of Dorothy in early 1982.
