Plein Air Landscape Sketching in Cornwall

- Hi there!
today I am plein air sketching in my local landscape overlooking Loe Pool in Cornwall. I'm using India ink and pencils to create a monochromatic sketch on Khadi rough paper. The weather has been very challenging recently for outdoor work (in other words - very wet and windy!) but I have continued to work on location in my sketchbooks.
I hope you enjoy the video - look out for a short clip of Basil when he was a youngster alongside our lovely old collie Pip, in the exact same spot, several years ago.
Bye for now - Andrew
Like the video? Why not buy me a coffee?

New here. Love this!! I couldn't help but remember that iconic "flake" advert in the 70s of the woman watercolour painting and it starts to rain! Showing my age.
I remember that ad very well too 😃
Hello Andrew. Always great to see you.☘️
Hi Rosemary - great to hear from you again 😃
The sketch is amazing, I admire how you don’t let the weather stop you, but I’m most happy to see Basil 😊 I used to have collie. Great dogs ❤
Thank you very much Barbara. Basil is very patient now he’s older - he used to wonder off and get up to mischief 😒
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt he’s a good boy 💕
Have a plan, but plan to let go, right Andrew? At least that’s what I am striving for in my work these days! Valuable video lesson in that regard, so thank you for sharing it. Bittersweet to see your pups in days bygone. We have such a short time with them. All the best!
Thank you for watching. We still miss our Pip - he was such a lovely dog
Congratulations on your exhibtions. I always love to the Basil, he's such a sweet soul🥰 sry about Pip. It's always too soon.
Thank you Ulrike. Yes it’s a pity they are only with us for a short while
Hi Andrew love your work and painting style I am learning quite a lot and your lose style has inspired me to loosen up I have signed up to your you tube channel and always like your videos

You’re welcome Judith
Nice vidéo with Basil. I like the environment and your ink painting.
Merci Jasmine. Basil aime bien les champs

Yes. I think this kind of dog needs to run every day and go here and there freely. Nice this "good boy" can do this while so many are not so lucky. I wish you and family all the best, especially to sympathetic Madeleine. God bless you 🙏
@@Jasmine_Shelby_art thank you so much Jasmine. Take care
Love watching the landscapes appear whilst battling the elements! I've never used ink before and now I want to try.
I really like Khadi sketchbooks. I take the rough 13x32cm out on my travels....not quite as convenient but ....
Congratulations on all your exhibition pieces.
Thank you Joanna
I also like the 13 x 32cm panoramic style sketchbooks. I think my favourite in that format is by Pink Pig with smooth paper although quite lightweight.
Best wishes - Andrew
Hey Andrew , I've just come across your channel recently, bloody good stuff mate , I have just started sketching and am really inspires by your work . All the best fella , cheers Colin
Thanks so much Colin. Have fun sketching 😃
Incredible. And adorable pup
Thank you Lucha - he's a beauty
Fantastic
Thanks Meredith
This turned out great Andrew, I think considering it rained and bled abit it still looks great.. enjoyed watching 😊👍
Thank you so much Johnny
The drawings in the beginning are great! ... Especially the one with boats ... Sketching with ink in the rain is definitely a challenge ... Perhaps you could use some white to enhance the areas that became too dark? Love the film of puppy Basil ...
Thank you Nancy - I will probably leave this one and learn from my mistakes. Basil was very energetic when he was younger
Really enjoyed this lovely video - beautiful scenery in color and B&W…very much appreciate the map showing your location… fun for me as I know where that is! Interesting to watch how you work your lovely art into the rain drops…undaunted!
Thank you very much Lisa - it was fun although next time I will take a stool to sit on
Очень красиво, как и всегда❤
Thank you so much
Love the sketch Andrew !
Thank you Ashley
I loved the texture of that Khardi paper, and your over all sketch.
Thank you Gary - the ink worked very well on the Khadi paper. Gave it a lovely texture
Great as usual. Good luck with the exhibitions.
Thank you very much Simonne
great
thank you
Congratulations on your drawing exhibitions Andrew.
Thank you very much Jacqueline
That's a wonderful location, sorry about the difficult conditions, Andrew. You and Basil made the best of the opportunity, I'd say. Degibna Lane also appears quite scenic, at least in the Google Maps street view. Have you ever attempted a sketching/painting with that lane as a subject?
Thank you very much Thomas. I have walked along Degibna many times, and sketched from there overlooking Mounts Bay. It is very exposed to the elements up there though 😀
Did turn out not to bad although the rain was interfering.
Thank you Mike
Great to see your old collie in this one, too. Plus Basil, of course. (I know this is supposed to be about art, but - there it is, I'm fonder of dogs than of people...) I love ink, as my fingers currently testify: it occurs to me though that I've now seen you use ink, oil paint, watercolour, gouache, pastel, casein, acrylic, tempera, different papers and sketch-books - gets blinking expensive, doesn't it?
Thanks Robert. Pip was a lovely dog.
Yes this art business is very expensive but addictive 😃
