I have been creating lighter easy-to-use handheld easels for working outside sketching, standing, or sitting. In this video, I discuss this easel along with all my Plein air sketching supplies I carry in my kit bag, and a bonus ink sketch at the end of the video.

I am trying to bring you a new video art tutorial, split between my two channels and two loves, watercolour and oils. So each channel gets a new tutorial every fortnight Friday at 3 pm GMT.
My palette has changed once more as has my presentation of this tutorial. the palette is as follows. PALETTE
    Sepia
    Burnt Umber
    Indian Red
    Burnt Sienna
    Raw Sienna
    Yellow Ochre
    Neutral Tint ( Daniel Smith)
    Neutral Tint (Schminke)
    Indigo
    French Ultramarine Blue
    Cobalt Blue
    Phthalo Blue ( Windsor Blue)
    Ultramarine Violet
    Phithalo Green ( Windsor Green)
    Cobalt Turquoise Teal DS

    Organic Vermillion DS
    Trans Pyrrol Orange DS
    Indian Yellow S
    Aureolin S
    Light Red WN
    Viridian Green WN

The palette box is a cheaper version of a Holbein offering a 20-slot palette. If honest I have way more colours than if ever use. I often only use a few of these and a version of this palette with fewer slots would be better for most.
My brushes are mainly Rosemary and Co, Sable, and Synthetics.

Thank you so much for this video. 3 months ago I took a beginners watercolor class and fell in love(it was a bucket list thing). What did I learn….the person who said they couldn’t draw a straight line can sketch, not great but I pretty passable. It is amazing what we tell ourselves we can’t do. My goal is to have a good time producing art(so hard to say that word in this context)that I’m pleased with while seeing some progress. I will never be a master, but the joy I have already experienced is wonderful. Your progress is great and I know you are pleased. I appreciate your being willing to post this, it was perfect for me and will help so many others. A trip to the library will be later today. Again my thanks.

Never say never. You CAN be whatever you like to be. You can do,whatever others do.I quit drawing at 18,got back where I left it,at 41. Until 42,in only 1 year,I had huge improvement, without practicing too hard just as often as I could. You can become way better than you think, just keep drawing/painting!

Genius! In the U.S we call that 'material' Coroplast. It is primarily used for political and real estate yard signs. I have been searching and searching to find a proper pochade box and easel for plein air within my budget. I think I will end up doing something like you have illustrated. Looks very handy! Thanks so much!

This was so informative, I want to get outside more to paint and draw. I watched with interest the portable easels you made, I thought instead of a strap on the back, you could glue the hand side of a glove instead. It would make it more stable.

New subscriber here. Thank you for sharing your set-up. I’m going on vacation soon & was feeling like I’m planning on taking too many watercolor items. I’m new to watercolor painting, still learning techniques, so wanted to take enough to learn & paint. I found your video very informative & useful. Thank you.

This is so great!! Thank you for sharing. I'm gonna try to make my own panel carrier as well. I also live in EU and can't justify the shipping prices, hopefully Raymar will expand in the future. I would love to support them.
As for the box you made, (to simplify it) did you cut out loose squares from the corrugated plastic and then taped them together with the gorilla tape? Or did you 'bend' them (by cutting it halfway)? I noticed that you have the "stripes" in the plastic horizontally and not vertically.
Let us know if you ever decide to make a video tutorial here or on Patreon! Thanks again for sharing, so many great ideas.

Hi yes I cur in and carved out a small 3mm wide trough for each bend and joined the edges with double-sided tape, then used Gorilla tape to finally fix, it is stronger that way I feel
I am waiting for a good friend to 3d print some new board guides, then I will make a comprehensive video on my sister channel, Paul's Mobile Studio. Cheers P

Thanks for sharing this wonderful video of your Plein Air Bag & the homemade easels, & portable cavas boxes. I hadn’t given much thought of canvas boxes for holding them especially if they are still wet or damp. I am guilty for trying to take way too much art supplies with me to do painting outside.
