Two Watercolour Plein Air Landscape Sketches in one morning | Loe Pool Cornwall

- I felt like having a go at doing two plein air watercolour sketches whilst I was out walking Basil (my dog) one morning near Loe Pool in Cornwall. It was a beautiful sunny morning - perfect for watercolour.
I sat in the same place for both sketches and looked in opposite directions as I painted them together. I used a Khadi rough paper sketchbook and a Pink Pig panoramic format sketchbook with smooth paper.
My watercolours are mostly Winsor and Newton half pans and I used 2 brushes - a flat and a small round.
Thanks for watching - Andrew

Thank you for sharing, wonderful paintings, nothing better than to paint outdoors!
Thank you so much and I agree with you 👍🏻
The weather looks much more hospitable 😂 I’m over here freezing now. Beautiful work!
It’s very hot here now
What a great Day to do some Watercolour. You've found some nice green shades there.
Thank you Mike. It was perfect
Thanks for taking us along on such a lovely day of painting
You’re welcome Judith
Beautiful scenery!! Basil a well behaved dog. He loves his owner and watch over him, between his naps.😂
Good Fun indeed, thanks Andrew
You’re welcome Deb
❤❤❤❤❤
The shadow of the grass looked like part of the painting, cool!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Magic 👍
Thank you 😊
At last an artist who paints in May and not terrified of greens!
Thank you very much Ian
Hi Andrew & Basil
I've been watching your videos for just a few weeks now but im hooked. Really excellent stuff, thanks for sharing 👍.
And I can fully associate with the 'if I can get up' at the end.
Keep up the good work.
Alain from Perthshire 🏴
Thank you very much Alain
I usually stand up to sketch to avoid the stiffness 😅
All the best
Hello from Australia Andrew. I found your site several days ago and have been loving it. I love that you're adventurous and willing to try different mediums, oil sticks, water colours, casein paint, charcoal and oil paints just a few and willing to share your experience with them. Thank you for sharing and can you give Basil a pat from me.
Thank you so much. I will definitely give Basil a pat from you 😃
Beautiful paintings, I love seeing all the beautiful scenery. Hi Basil, you’re such a good boy ❤
Thank you Barbara. Basil was very patient
great, beautiful walk ❤
Thank you 😊
I especially love the simplicity and freshness of the Pink Pig, but both are lovely!
Thanks Deborah. I too liked the freshness of the pink pig. It’s the smooth lightweight paper, stops overworking
😊Mr Andrew....Basil😊,....this technic with watercolor is fantastic...Or you are really a Big Artist👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏,☺️🤫Andrew, you know....The Roma team is on final with Siviglia team... 🦉😖💓I hope well, but it's so difficult....🙏,All the Best for you and your family....🌹🙋ciao
Hi Veronica
Glad to see Roma in the final against Sevilla. Will be a good match. My team Coventry City have made the playoffs final too. Happy days 😃
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt Coventry,yes,I know,I often play on betwin,often I win☺️I wish all the best for your team....Go Coventry....🤞and GO ROMA.....😩😖🦉🤞🤞🤞🤞👏👏🙋
I paint mostly with oils and shy away from water colour because I don;t know what I'm doing and struggle to control the stuff. These last couple of videos of yours have inspired me to give it another go and not take it too seriously. This has been fun and quite liberating--thanks.
Thank you very much 😃
meravigliosi!
Thank you 😊
The greens are so beautiful. Great weather, too! ❤
Thanks Nicky x
Fab, Andrew! 👏🏻 A spring duo! 🌿🌱 Ive been sketching with charcoal lately and had forgotten how wonderful colour is!! 😁
The Khadi one is my favourite, love the textures and depth. Im a big fan of Khadi.
Im learning so much from your plein-air videos, thank you. 😊
Thank you so much Joanna
Always on Sunday afternoon I love to see your videos which I really like. Your mumbling and explaining the process. Great water color sketchings again! Khadi paper does do dry very slowly indeed. But I like its structure. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Jan. It’s so interesting how much effect the surface has on your painting
Gorgeous painting ❤
Thank you 😊
Both really lovely sketches, good idea to have two on the go, I am so impatient and make a mess by not waiting before adding more paint.
Thank you 😊
I’m so impatient with watercolours. Definitely need 2 books at the same time
Did enjoy watching you play😎great spring colours.
Thank you very much Susana 😃
Harika👏👏👏
Thank you 😊
I like the look of your Khadi paper, but think I'd get on better with the Pink Pig - I keep thinking I'd do better with rough paper, but in fact - I don't. Not that I paint many watercolours. But enough about me! I liked both of these, in their very different ways, for their freshness -- that, and the involvement in the landscape brought about by your painting on the spot. The rough paper painting is perhaps the more 'solid' of the two, but - if Basil were to stand over me and force me to choose, it's the Pink Pig paper painting (lots of plosives for you there) which I'd choose.
Thank you so much Robert. I agree with you and prefer the Pink Pig sketch
All the best. I’ll say hello to Basil for you
Hi Andrew ... This was very interesting to watch this double -duty watercolor ... Like the high key greens/abstract feel to the smaller one ... The other has nice depth created with the darker bramble bush in foreground... Basil was surely enjoying the soft grass and sunshine!
Thank you very much Nancy. I like the pink pig sketchbooks and they’re very lightweight for carrying around
No muddy colours in sight
Thank you 😊
Always look forward to your videos Andrew and very much enjoyed these. I like your loose style and the abstract quality of these sketches. I think I slightly prefer the Khadi sketch because of the textures but they are both nice pieces of work. Just returned from a great sketching holiday in the Brecon Beacons inspired by your plein air painting... Thank you
That’s fantastic Steve. Brecon Beacons is a beautiful area. I used to live in Llandeilo and could see them everyday
All the best
Andrew
Beautiful…can I ask what your sketchbooks are? By who etc. thanks
Thanks Judy. The panoramic one is by Pink Pig and the other is Khadi Papers
Hi Andrew! I was just wondering. These sketches are they just for the fun of it or/and are they a base for a more elaborate painting or/and are they a way to train the eye to see the landscape?
Hi Birgit.
Definitely fun but they do train your eye to see the landscape better
