That must be a magic palette you have as all those colours and blocking get done yet no trace on palette and very little paint also. Balancing it on your hand looks so awkward. Love your work Andrew, looking forward to seeing this getting finished off in your studio.
Thanks Jim. I will try and finish it one day. Shame it didn’t make the exhibition. I never normally balance the palette like this but I forgot to take my French easel
It’s so freeing how you loosely block out the basic shapes and colors and then build it up from there. After the beautifully detailed charcoals this one was quite refreshing. I may try it myself! Tho maybe not so large. 😊
Really Great Work! You are amazing to work with such a large piece with such small brushes!!!! I love that bayside township! You did a really great job with it! Really quite beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Wonderful work, Andrew. The looseness of working this large really adds something overall, I think. The sky is very expressive and you have reminded me to scrape back into and reapply for more random-looking cloud forms. May I ask (if you filmed this one by yourself), how did you get so many different camera angles? Doesn’t it impede your workflow? Any filming tips appreciated! Looking forward to the finish on this piece. ~Rhonda
Hi Rhonda thank you - I film by myself (unless my daughter is on holiday and wants to help!). I tend to stop for a coffee break every so often and that's when I setup to do some different camera viewpoints. Filming does impede the natural workflow but I'm getting used to it now. Good luck with your painting
Hi Andrew, this tuto is fantastic and, with quiet, I want to watch.... BUT, tonight, 😩🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉MY AS ROMA😣I hope.... All town of Romanisti Hope... I Great Andrew, all the best for you👍👏👏👏👏👏🙋♀️ciaoo
You're the second plein-air painter I see on RUclips in two days who gets an unbalanced composition partly because of a more or less canvas' square format. The sky and town strips were too narrow compared to the water and woods parts that will end up being huge plain blocks, which won't look particularly appealing. Not to mention that the water seems to be a dropping down surface rather than a horizontal one. Sorry for saying what I see, but the video is pleasant to watch. Salutes from snowy Mount-Lebanon.
I soon realised after about 5 minutes of painting that the square format was going to result in lots of compromises. I had intended to paint the view out to sea which would have suited square perfectly. I will try and rescue it in the studio but if not - I will paint over it and the canvas will have a new life 👍🏻
Yes, I noticed his other pieces from his website are not balanced compositions as well...the foreground are off and as you pointed out here...the water, and land dropping down... It amazes me that many painters get their own shows... This canvas - the entire landscape is off....especially the foreground.... He needs a view finder perhaps that may help him, and read Edgar Payne's book on composition and Carlson's Landscape book.... Sorry as well....that's what I see... Your snow paintings the snow is falling forward - the viewer is lying down - always think of giving a place for viewers to stand in scene... That's such a waste of canvas here. . Your newest video- the water doesn't look like water...as your seascapes on your website? Very abstract, wouldn't understand it's of ocean without a title...
@@joypinturra6151 I think we would all love to see your work and learn from it. Please feel free to email me through my website which you have kindly viewed so I can share with my subscribers - best wishes to you
I’m a little bit conflicted about the bottom part that I think you’re also conflicted about. Part of me wants to think that it’s a happy accident and I like it. I’d be tempted to leave it alone for a while and live with it. It’s one of those things where if you did something to it, would it not be as good? I don’t think it detracts in any way. One of those dicey decisions to be made but your skill will probably prove out.
What a wonderful view ! by the way your videos are very relaxing ,I want to watch more but it's 3 am
Thank you very much - better get to bed. There will be plenty of time to watch more of my videos 😀👍

oh, that sky! Just a few tweaks to accentuate the foreground and depth and I'd be calling it done.
Thank you. I think some work on the boats and foreground greens should do the trick 😃
That is lovely view and lovely painting
Thank you for sharing
👍😊
Thank you for watching 😃
Great stuff. Glad I found your channel ( through Clare Bowen !).
Thank you Andy. Should be painting out with Clare soon 👍🏻

Thank you very much. I usually post new videos every Sunday and sometimes extra ones during the week 👍🏻
It is a beautiful painting with such a beautiful scenery.
The air painting is amazing, very interesting~!
Thank you. The gusting wind that arrived in the afternoon made it more difficult but still enjoyable 😃

Wow, Andrew! Great job … on a grand scale! That sky is super!!

Your sky is just perfect. Can’t wait to see how you pull it all together Andrew. Such a huge canvas to fill!
Thank you Jennie. I enjoyed painting the sky 😃
Impressive undertaking for a one day plein air painting. Good job!
Thank you very much Judith

Very impacting and beautiful already, really love the sky on this one very much

Thank you so much - a great example for us all! Will be interested in any studio work with this as well.
Thank you for watching. I will film the studio work and put it on video in a couple of weeks 😃
Some challenge Andrew working that size, I love your big broad approach to roughing in the painting, great to watch ☝
Thank you Tony. I really enjoyed the first stages of the painting. I wish I could have maintained the energy and looseness. Maybe in the studio 😃
The sky is pretty 🎉😅
thank you
Trying to translate how you do oils into acrylic. Think I will need to get some acrylic repartee/ extender or go for an acrylic with long dry time.
A way of slowing acrylic drying would be good - especially if working outdoors in the summer

Thank you Dave. I haven’t returned to this painting since this plein air session. It’s hiding somewhere in the studio - I may find it again one day
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt I have a few of those.

Just used my usual colours in this one
Thank you so much

Why don't you use bigger brushes.? Especially on a big canvas.
I like the marks made by smaller brushes
Water is always level ..it appears to be falling forward...
The composition is not balanced..
Those boats are falling forward
It’s way from finished 👍🏻
Let’s see what it’s like when / if I tackle it sometime
