  • Hi there!
Welcome to this outdoor sketching video on Loe Bar in Cornwall. I am using my half pan watercolour set that I take plein air sketching especially during the Spring and Summer months.
I used 2 brushes - a flat and a small round, Khadi rough paper 10" x 8" sketchbook and a water soluble graphite stick.
The morning light was very clear and bright. Basil and myself enjoyed a lovely, peaceful morning on a quiet beach ,with the waves gently lapping up onto the sand.
Like the video? Why not buy me a coffee?

Thank you so much Andrew i just stumbled across you site and I'm so glad I did as you have inspired me to go back to charcoal. I did a drawing this morning of our cottage I sat up on the footpath above the cottage at 5.30am this morning and I'm so happy with what I did and it's all down to you.

Nice sketch Andrew. I think you`re being a bit modest about your watercolour skills. Nice to see the waders busily feeding along the shore - also Basil of course with his sea weed breakfast!

Your watercolour skills look pretty good to me - it's not my main medium either, but lovely to play with.

Thank you so much Robert - I'm just too impatient with watercolour when it is damp outside - doesn't dry fast enough and bleeds all over the place 😀

Those birds are the happiest creatures on the beach lol. I love seeing them. I see different ones here in Barbados they fly like schools of fish over the water, No idea what they are called!
I didn't get to do any beach painting this weekend, but I'm definitely going to have at it on Saturday coming. Thank you for this video it made me feel like I painted this weekend.

The birds look like Calidris, could be minuta or another one of them, hard to tell from the video... lovely they found a place on your sketch.

What a beautiful day on the beach with the murmur of the waves in the background! I completely understand that Basile takes advantage of this. Anyway, you painted a beautiful seascape. Well done Andrew.

Lovely as always. It's so nice when the weather and elements cooperate and you can focus on painting instead of fighting the elements- bugs, wind sun intese cold heat. A calm sea may seem 'boring' but I would've considered it quite a treat! Beautiful painting! I hope you use watercolor more often 😄

Liked the beach painting. The birds on the beach have a hard life, with only 2 areas they can feed, on the edge of the surf picking up bits washed in, or up on the strandline in the seaweed and drift wood, picking off sand flies and hoppers.
Good you kept Basil still, while the birds were feeding.

Thanks Gary - Basil was probably snoozing whilst the birds were feeding. I love the wildlife

Я при ярком солнечном свете рисую в солнцезащитных очках, один раз попробовала и очень понравилось, глаза не устают и на картине не рисую резкие контрасты. Советую попробовать.

Im very glad you took the time to share this video. Firstly, it was quite relaxing to watch you painting by the sea. Secondly, as one who also does not call watercolour his medium of choice, I found it a bit inspiring to watch you sketch. Lastly, I actually thought the sketch turned out quite nicely.

I think an angry sea is worthy of a good artist. A sleeping sea is not so interesting

Ultimately, the sea is purely magnetic. My grandfather’s people migrated to Newfoundland many centuries. He was drafted by the Royal Navy in WWI. Was a British citizen as Newfoundland was not part of Canada when he was born. He raised me in a fashion…taught me the names of every sail…how to row…live on fish. So…in my blood.
