      For me it’s almost a kind of meditation! It gets my mind focused on seeing, REALLY seeing and observing and I go into almost a meditative state.

      One, I like to try to preserve local history as much as possible. So many older buildings are being demolished in favor of newer ones. Two, a sketch is much more memorable than a photograph. When one goes back years down the road one instantly remembers the time one did the sketch. He remembers the weather, the people around you, and how you were feeling at the time you did the work. Three, it is a great way to practice your hobby/work. Sitting home just doesn’t feel the same and I do not believe one gets as much out of the work as one does on location. Fourth, ever so often one gets to meet people and discuss what you are doing. It is a good way start up a conversation and possibly make a new friend or two. Lastly, it is a good way to put aside your worries and cares. Once you get into the work most everything else melts away. Make sure your cell phone is silenced. Enjoy your surroundings and forget about upcoming chores, meetings, and things you really don’t want to do. Overall, it is good for your mental health, your physical well-being, and your love of creating.

      I love there is such a big community, at the same time you always can choose if you want to sketch in a group or alone. Good to me, because I love socializIng as well as exploring environment by my own.

      I have just started doing more sketching outdoors. I enjoy travel sketching and have several setups I use because I'll often go out on my golf cart or carry a backpack and head to the wilder areas where a golf cart can't go. My main passion is sketching around my area. I live on a golf course that is surrounded by woods. I want to paint the various holes on the course and the clubhouse then make prints of them and give them to the golfers in our leagues. There's always something wild to sketch here and wildlife is always fun. A balance between my studio and travel or urban sketching is my goal.

    When I sketch outdoors, I intensely remember the experience - the light, sounds, weather, people, details of what I drew. It all comes back when I look at the sketch later. Much more than a photo. Thanks for a great video!

    The main difference I find between urban sketching and drawing from photos is that I have to put the 3D scene in front of me into 2D. (A photo does that for you.) It's a challenge, but it feels like a greater achievement.

    I think sketching out there in the world is so great because it really feels like your living life to the fullest as an artist. Getting some sunlight, seeing people in real life. I wish I did it more because I am a work at home artist and it can feel like a prison if I don’t go outside enough! :)

    I'm a beginner so I learned a lot from this video. I live in New York City so no one bothers me when I sketch outside because there are so many artists here. I use a pencil because I don't have a waterproof pen.

      I think I’m more of a beach and forest kind of guy. I prefer landscapes and seascapes more.

    I love Urban Sketching and I do it once in a while, but I don't consider myself an urban sketcher! I prefer drawing details up close.
    I was in Singapore last June and I joined the Urban Sketching group there. We went to Potato Head! That was a lovely experience ❤

    I think the crab shells on the plant sticks are a cheap safety measure to stop getting poked if someone goes to sniff a flower. The top of the stick being harder to spot from above makes getting poked in the eye more likely. There are rubbery nubs or little flowers available, but crab shells are a free alternative if you preparr crab at home.

    Nice sketch ! @Teohyc It seems Uniball AIR works well on cold press paper. Is the pen Medium (0.7 mm) of Fine (0.5 mm) ??

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  10 месяцев назад +1

      It's 0.7. This can produce thin and thick lines more visibly
