- Hi there - welcome to my studio where I am working to finish the painting of St Anthony lighthouse on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall UK.
This painting began en plein air (outdoors on location) on a very cold and windy morning at St Anthony Head. It was certainly warmer in the studio!
Here is a link to the plein air video if you would like to have a re-cap or watch for the first time: • PLEIN AIR PAINTING - S...
I show you how I mixed colours and used the different shaped brushes to arrive at a finished painting that I was reasonably happy with (I'm never completely happy with them!). The painting is on canvas measuring 50cm x 50cm.
Colours used: Titanium White, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Winsor Red, Magenta, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber, Violet, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Manganese Blue and Ivory Black.

Thanks for watching and bye for now

It's very Board style one of my all time favourite painters
Thank you 😊
I love your art and the way you talk about your process and your thoughts while painting. I wish I lived near you so I could take a workshop with you.
Thank you so much - maybe one day you can join me for a workshop
Great blue colors! 👍
Thank you Bob. Cheers!
Another lovely painting Andrew
Thank you very much Keith
I enjoyed seeing you finishing the painting. Wonderful texture. Loved the close ups with the camera. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Jan
Cleaning the edge of the rocks/ water up did heaps of good to make the rocks more... 'rocky'. The waterline brings the viewer nicely up to the lighthouse (which crosses the horizon) i.e. nice composition! Lovely colours too! Subscribing!
Thank you very much Mike
The lighthouse was perfect to break the waterline. The rocks in shadow were more difficult than I expected 😃
Beautiful painting Andrew
Thank you Judith 😃
Fantastic Andrew. I really loved the way you brought that together. It was a tricky composition with that expanse of dark rock. Love how you painted the lighthouse and the post echoing it.
Glad you enjoyed it Jennie and thank you for taking the time to write a comment. Have a good weekend
Hi Andrew, very well cared for, with the magic manganese blu, yell and white you make this Great view. Fantastic! Good work.... Amazing all colors👌👍👏👏👏👏👏👏🙋♀️

👍👍👍🖼🖼
Thanks Luc
I love this painting. The colours are gorgeous! Could you tell me what your oil medium is please? What quantities of stand oil, turps, varnish?
Thank you very much. I mix roughly equal amounts of each but if it seems too thick I will add slightly more turps 👍🏻
Hi Andrew. Please can you give me details for your workshops? Do you have a website for them? I would consider myself to be okay as a painter/draftsperson, but lacking in confidence and technical knowledge. I live in Cornwall and would welcome a few workshops with you.
Hi John
I’m busy painting for exhibitions at the moment but if you want to email me art@andrewbarrowman.com I will let you know when I restart workshops. They take place at krowji Redruth
Why do U put varnish I'm the medium?
I was experimenting. I have a large bottle of Damar varnish which I never use so thought I’d use some of it in medium
