"The Secret of Negankerdak" is an original song we wrote taking place in an original fantasy world. The song centers on a pure and unbreakable material, "black diamond" and a sword naturally formed of this material. This is the 2nd part of 4 of our "Legend of Negankerdak" series. We hope you enjoy it:).
We wrote the lyrics, composed, and arranged the piece. My family sang it.
Artwork by:
Chris Johnson

Song Description:
This 2nd part centers on the good dwarf, Mordaar, who is digging in a mine for black diamond. He falls into a pit and finds a door where the guardian Rilfar has sealed the sword, Negankerdak. He learns of the sword's secret and is chosen to guard it until its rightful purpose can be fulfilled.
Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you!
Lyrics:
The Secret of Negankerdak
(Dwarves)
Ages have passed since Earth-Wrought was lost,
And for our people great was the cost.
Quests were begun where Unforged was sought -
At rumors of finding fierce wars were fought.
We are now broken, our great ones have died -
Lightcatcher is gone, in grief set aside.
Yet when a dwarf sees the diamond black,
His heart remembers Negankerdak...
Mordaar Morthain in the Noddyrock mined,
Eagerly delving for treasures to find.
This stout-hearted dwarf was humble and true -
Honest souls like his in our day are few.
He followed what seemed a black diamond trail,
But it brought him near the accursed Black Vale -
Corrupt, full of snares, deception its mark.
A deep crevice caught him - he fell in the dark.
Mordaar came to a cave of light, soft and dim -
To Irna’s own heart his fall had brought him -
With fountains and pools, with airy light-streams,
And wells for wisdom, and inspired dreams.
His footsteps soft, he trod the smooth floor,
And found in the wall a small, gleaming door,
With a sign of a moon, of deep earthen brown,
And a sign of a sword the full moon did crown.
Then spoke a deep voice within his mind,
Firm as the rock, yet noble and kind:
(Rilfar)
“Know, little dwarf, it was from Vordan fear
That I hid away what you will find here.
It was dwarven conceit, beyond measure,
That prompted me to remove their treasure.
Too quickly I came in far off season,
But could not to them reveal the reason.
Yet do you suppose they could have perceived
That I came for their good - would they have believed?”
Mordaar, amazed, with a trembling hand,
Pressing his palm on the granite brand,
Unsealed the door where a Sword lay hid,
Warily, whispering as he did:
(Mordaar)
‘‘It was no demon, but a Guardian true -
I see it now, from his very own hue.
Negankerdak, here long laid to rest,
By mighty Rilfar, a Guardian blest.”
Then a soft voice he heard within,
Light and dark, heavy and thin -
Negankerdak, by no hand made,
A blue light shining within its blade:
(Negankerdak)
“To the dwarves I was commended,
But not for dwarf my use intended.
Another there is I must employ,
The world to save, or to destroy.
Think not this blade as yours to own -
Think what hand made you, flesh and bone.
Are not our days by another cast,
In this world so deep and vast?
To spend ourselves for another’s sake,
My fate and yours, each we take.”
Silent, in awe, the Sword in his hand,
Aware it was not his to command,
With wondering mind and a heart that yearned,
Mordaar’s steps toward home he turned.
Forever, I will be seeking you. - Видеоклипы
"The Secret of Negankerdak" is the 2nd part of 4 of our "Legend of Negankerdak" series. We hope you enjoy it:).
There’s gonna be 4 parts?! I can’t wait to hear the entire epic of this sword!
Plot twist of the century
Great! Can't wait for more!
Looking forward to it. Love your work!
Hello! Love your music and all of your renditions. I am currently working with a small crew to create a short film and would love to contact you via email to talk about using your music in it. I can’t find your email to contact you personally. Thank you all, and keep up the excellent work!
"Negankerdak by no hand made" Is probably the most simultaneously in-overtly ominous and epic description of an arcane inanimate object I've heard.
It's a great concept for a weapon of legend. "Yeah, this sword is made from a special type of gemstone that cannot be modified in anyway. We dug it out of the ground and it looked like this. We're pretty sure it's meant for something important."
Automated assembly line.
I absolutely love the art of Mordaar holding the sword. It looks like he's almost in tears.
Imagine if you, just some guy out for a walk, stumbled into a cave and found the Holy Grail. You pick it up and hear God himself say in your mind "You are the only one I trust to hold this." You'd be a little emotional too.
Yeah that part was CRAZY.
I'm more concerned about that pair of eyes that seem to be glaring balefully at him in the background.
My thoughts exactly. They captured that emotion very well with the artwork. Good comparison.
@@zacharycunningham7669 oh dear... I've hit repeat like 100 times and I never noticed that. Good catch
@@zacharycunningham7669 Welp.
Hidden items usually stay unfound for a reason.
"Honest souls like his, in our day are few.".
I felt that...
I would pay to see movies based off Clamavi de Profundis’ original works. They’re such amazing fleshed out worlds and stories and I can’t get enough of them
Then look up Kruggsmash here on youtube!
World building, not through grand maps, or mighty memorials of the fallen, but through song sung with voice as strong as the mountains
honestly, I feel like a non linear series from the view point of different characters might actually be better lol c: you are are to cover longer periods of time, have reoccuring legends and characters through them and! world building can be wider too
That would be cool!
@@ClamaviDeProfundis I’m currently making a religious fiction short film and I wanted to get in contact with you all to discuss using your music. But I can’t find your email to contact you personally
I love that even when he picks up this legendary blade, Mordaar just turn around and starts walking home, I don't know why but I find it so charming.
So do I! i suspect its because in so many stories the hero seeks out the legendary item because they need it for something, I think it shows his pure heart, that his first instinct wasn't to go use it to claim a throne, or slay a monster, but go home, and be at peace...
Or at least go "hey guys, you would not believe what I found!"
I think it is because it is not his to claim but keep safe for one who will. If he let everyone know about it the sword would be lost to him. Wisdom and humility. I like that part too.
The storytelling is what is amazing. This reads like an old children’s story, tales of a people and origin, filled with morals and consequence of action. Truly remarkable.
Also you left me pondering, you set up his finding of Negankerdak as being a path full of lies and conceit, are we being set up for the Guardians sweet words to be lies and half truths? I guess we will find out.
It sure is!
Thank you for the nice comment!
Because of this series I'm now extra watchful when crossing the street. Wouldn't want to get run over before hearing all of it.
Ha! Glad you are intrigued.
@@ClamaviDeProfundis There's some great world building at work here. Any chance you might expand on it further after the Negankerdak saga?
I can relate to this.
@@Krawurxus Two more songs of this series are planned.
@@Caboose4859 read the comment further
It wasn't a demon? What a twist! I was expecting epic battles into the demon lands to retake the sword, but this is really good too. Can't wait to hear what happens next.
"When on a quest the most obvious path isn't always the right one." Onward
Ps probably didn't get the quote spot on.
though recall, he fell near the black vale, and did you see the creature in the back of the last frame.
did sauron not come to celebrimbor as a gift bearer and to numenor as a prisoner?
do not be so quick to trust all.
@@donaldbothe3518 If Rilfar truly was the thief, I'd like to think he was good and the creature of the last frame was representing the danger he now faced for lifting Rilfar's warding seal to keep the blade hidden.
I’m really excited too! The plot twists are amazing but I think there’s even more hidden. “Forever I will be seeking you” I first thought was negankerdak calling out to the dwarves in the first one, but here we see that’s NOT negankerdak’s voice as we hear it here, it’s something else! These guys are so good at singing and storytelling
Rilfar has been removed from the book of grudges.
Few days ago I created character for D&D: dwarven bard of valor, who love legends and stories. Yesterday I thought about creating tome of spells, poems and legends with character sheet for him. Today you release another Dwarven song. I am so lucky last two weeks. And Breath-taking work song again. Good job. You are Masters.
Thank you! We are currently working on an RPG inspired song that will be coming in the near future.
@@ClamaviDeProfundis OSHJRAD SEQUEL?!!???!!!??
Ah, so the dwarves were basically worshipping the sword and that wasn't its purpose - so its guardian snatched it and ran.
Irna was like (to the dwarves): uh, I didn't make it for you specifically???
No Thor type enchantments on it, probably got passed through lines of Kings and maybe a couple famous warriors vs the "worthy" individuals that Irna intended. Although the Loss of Negankerdak doesn't say it you just know families of Dwarves and other races fought wars over it. Definitely not worthy behavior.
I'm loving the old school fantasy art you use for these.
It's great. We need more stuff like this. I still love the old 80s and 90s White Dwarf magazines that were full of such art. Personally, I prefer it over "cleaner" modern fantasy art, though that's not without its place too.
This looks like stuff Pauline Baynes (the Narnia illustrator) would draw. That is awesome
Another song as stellar as the light in Negankerdak’s hilt!
Quick lore recap for those interested.
The guardian that hid the Negankerdak is Rilfar, he's the one that has these lines in first song:
In intro: ''Then Irna the Earth put forth her gift, a fountain deep in a darksome rift.''
and later:
''By Irna formed from the diamond black, the Earth-wrought, Unforged, Negankerdak!''
and then with Turalel (which is the leader of guardians i assume):
''Weapon of kings, for greatness built.''
So, the first line looks like it's describing the location of Negankerdak in this second song.
Rilfar seems to be some kind of earth-guardian to me. He's the closest to Irna - mentions her a lot.
I also wonder why there was a moon on the door to Negankerdak. My theory is:
In first part of first song, we hear eight guardians, and see nine moons on image. Also, the boss Turalel sings about nine moons crowning the mountains. One moon is special on the image, it's also in the middle. Either it is Turalel's moon, because he is the main guardian (but then, there is one guardian missing to complete other 8 moons.) or it is something else. Like, Eru Iluvatar, the one real God, with 8 guardians around him as Valars/lesser beings.
The description of the previous song confirm s Rilfar is the earth guardian.
If there's something like Eru Iluvatar it would probably be Irna, the Earth
I could be wrong but I think the woman who sang "forever I will be seeking you" at the end of both song is not of the ones who sang the female guardians' verse.
Also Negankerdak changed colour between The Loss and The Secret (black and red vs white and blue), given the fact Black Diamond is supposed to never change that's probably relevant
@@mathieuaurousseau100 Good point, i noticed the color change but didnt think it important for some reason.
About Irna being the highest being... i don't think catholic CdP would go this way.
@@radovanmarcincin2502 apparently the sword changes colour depending on its "mood".
Oh oh oh! In the new song it mentions the secret moon!
Negankerdak's voice legit gave me CHILLS! It fealt as if i was hearing something ANCIENT and UNFATHOMABLY powerfull...
I’m loving the story of Negankerdak! Can’t wait for the other two! I’m so intrigued by the creature spying in the cave...Great work as always!
Another theory: The creature is the one who is saying "Forever I will be seeking you" at the end of each song.
In 'The Loss of Negankerdak' we see this cloaked figure over the Black Diamond Sword. I believe it's safe to assume we all thought it was the demon since before this song we didn't know there was no demon in the first place. Now the figure returns, again, at the point where the phrase is spoken. Perhaps this creature has something to do with Negankerdak saying that it will save or destroy the world. Maybe it wants to bring about one of these dooms, and is therefore seeking the Unforged.
Or it's just Rilfar.
@@husky0098 I just thought the same when I heard that part again. We will see!
One day I hope to hear "Down down to Goblin Town" from you guys. There is so much passion in each work I would love to hear a sillier song from y'all.
Am I going to be the only one that's going to mention the fact that Negankerdak SPOKE to Mordaar and I'm just LOVING THAT?!?!!? As a personification stan, I love this so much! XD
A Dwarf so noble he invented velcro to attach his backpack to his cloak. Love the art and legend that yall are making.
... I did not realize this was going to be a 4 parter.
Needless to say, I look very, *very,* *_very_* forward to the next chapter.
Against the backdrop of the horrors these days, a song of valor shines the more brightly.
My mind is just blown. Bigger plot twists here than Vader being Luke's father. And I never expected to get a four-part series around Earth-Wrought the Unforged! Incredible work! I can't wait for more!
A great sequel to the first part. I really enjoyed where this one took up where the last one left off as well as the artwork used. I will be eagerly looking forward to seeing the next two.
Me to!
Thank you!
@@ClamaviDeProfundis You're welcome. And I'm especially intrigued as to who that hooded and cloaked figure is in the final scene.
Me to
"...firm as the rock, yet noble and kind..."
words to live by :)
When the main theme (if I can call it that?) starts again at 7:14, it send shivers down my spine! Amazing! I cannot wait for the other two pieces.
Also, now the "Forever, I will be seeking you" part has gotten a completely different meaning. I first thought it was from the dwarves, searching Negankerdak, but I now understand it is actually the sword, searching its true wielder.
I love how different the singing is in this compared to The Loss of Negankerdak
This is an ironic twist given the roll the Loss of Negankerdak played in my life. I used the song last month to mourn the loss of something “unique in shape and measure” besides which stone lacks beauty. What was lost is “unforged” and repels artifice and only grows organically as it comes down to us from the mysterious past. For a while I wondered with its loss, “how shall we endure”, but I have found peace. As much as it pains me, I recently have been able to accept that it was taken from us by “ no demon, but a Guardian true”
I'm sorry for your loss. A relative?
We're only halfway through the series... More heartbreak to come...
Fun fact time: The material Carbonado is also known as Black Diamond. It is one of the toughest, densest types of natural diamond, and is an impure high-density, micro-porous form of crystalline diamond, containing diamond, graphite (hence the black colour I guess) and amorphous carbon with small crystals and some metal.
A nice one can set you back anywhere between 3 and 5 thousand for a carat.
This is absolutely incredible and beautiful stuff, J.R.R. Tolkien would be proud.
Best part of the end of the month is a new CDP composition 👍
Thank you!
Imagine a Clamavi de Profundis live at a Theater, with orchestra, back choir and the art projected in the background.
You're always legendary, guys!
I hope we will see more of this universe. Maybe the elves next time ?
Guess we will see;)
@@ClamaviDeProfundis I will watch your coming feats with great interest.
That was incredible and I am so happy to hear that we will be getting two more. I have said it before and I will most likely say it again: this world and lore is incredible and I love that you can make the songs both sound beautiful and create a well written story with it too. I felt real emotions over the course of listening to this song
Thank you!
They return with another great story tell
My Mans hearth is pounding in a extreme anxiety for the rest of the tale
Amazing! So glad to see a full version featuring Negankerdak! Very cool! Thank you for your work!
Clamavi De Profundis is like Valar, they are making an amazing world only through music
the moment where Negankerdak got a Voice of its own :o
me waking up to see that cdp made a new song : yet ANOTHER absolute banger!!!
Something's been bugging me about this series and now I think I finally put my finger on it.
Why is the sword so different between the illustration of Mordaar finding it and literally every other one we see it in?
Seriously. Go back and watch the first part, 'The Loss of Negankerdak', and every single illustration showing the legendary blade shows it as being somewhat conical in shape, with the colour being black and a red light shining out of it. 0:30 of this vid, still the same. The pictures seem true to the lyrics as well- listen to these descriptions
"A sword unique in shape and measure"
"By Irna formed from the diamond black"
"Unbedecked, yet flawless, dark"
"A glow in its depths from blade to hilt" (colour unspecified)
The material its made of, black diamond, is supposed to have a glow reminiscent of the sun, or of fire ("Light in its depths like fire or sun")
So why is it blue and shaped like a normal sword when we see it again at 5:07?
On the surface, we're told that the guardian Rilfar hid it away from the dwarves because of their hubris, but where does Mordaar find this sword? In or near "the accursed Black Vale" which is apparently "Corrupt, full of snares, deception its mark".
So, is the sword Mordaar found actually Negankerdak? Is the voice that spoke to him just before he opened the door really Rilfar? If so, then can Rilfar be trusted?
1. In the description for Part 1, they explain that Black Diamond glows with random colors and intensities at unpredictable intervals. Sometimes gold, sometimes white or red, etc.; They've also confirmed in responses to other comments on this video, that Negankerdak can control its light's color and intensity because it is sentient.
2. They had a different artist draw the background artwork for this video as opposed to the previous, and muchlike fanarts of a purely written book, each person drawing will have a different idea of what the sword looks like. A smoother blade here, a rougher one there, a different shaped crossguard... but in all cases they retain the core feature of being a sword of Black Diamond, a dark indestructible metal that has an inner glow/light.
3. Rilfar can absolutely be trusted. Going back to part 1's description, they explain that the Guardians are powerful beings who protect various aspects of the world. Rilfar is the Guardian of Earth, and thus has a deeper (heh) connection to Irna than any of the other Nine. Therefore he of all the Guardians would know for sure if Negankerdak was being misused when it was first discovered, and would be the appropriate Guardian to take action to prevent further misuse.
4. Black Diamond specifically cannot be shaped, forged, tamed, etc. by any being in existence. That presumably includes demons, which means Negankerdak can't be replicated, copied, falsified, etc.; there is only one sword of Black Diamond, and can only EVER be one. I expect that this uniqueness is going to be part of the reason why it has a world-saving purpose that was assigned to it by Irna.
The dwarves are my favorite. I am so glad you are making a whole new world for them and whatever else you create to live in. Dwarves from mythology and the works of Tolkien are a great inspiration for my work in the forge and now your works too.
Well, that was a plot twist I didn't expect.
Man I'm loving this series so much. Interesting thing I noticed too, Rilfar, the guardian that took Negankerdak, was the one that gave it it's name. Rilfar was also the one to sing of the 'fountain deep in a darksome rift' in the first song, the very place Mordaar fell.
I also love how much it parallels the Boic song. Dwarves consumed by their own hubris, but instead of demon coming to take advantage of it, a guardian comes to attempt to cure them of it.
Loved the medieval organum (Dorian and Phrygian modes) when the sword speaks!
You guys are legendary can't wait for the next part of this series.
I love that the Divines of this world are more like characters involved in what goes on! Also Rilfar not only has a great singer but is just a fantastic name!
Simply amazing, just as always.
Just the way we are accustomed to, yet your work surprises and awes me every time anew.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it:)
The more I listen to this, the more I like it. I really hope that when all four parts are out there will be a complete version released with them all.
When a dwarf sees the diamond black his heart remembers negankerdak, they lost their unity, their symbol and their will, the dwarves lost everything, the pure emotion in. This song is great!! Keep em comin Clamavai!!
I believe I said this last time, but this should be a novel. I would read the snot out of it.
The Legend goes on.
Really crazy fan theory: Negankerdak isn't meant to be wielded by a dwarf, but instead by another who will determine the fate of Irna. Someone who could save the world, or destroy it. In other words, someone who has the POTENTIAL to do either.
Is Oshrjad going to wield Negankerdak?!
Not crazy or a fan theory, that's literally what the plot is
An orc being given the ancestral treasured weapon of the dwarven race to wield in battle... that won't cause any category 5 ragestorms from the dwarven kingdoms, huh?
@@lurkingcarrier8736 Oh it most certainly will. In fact, that's probably what happened when Negankerdak was first found - it told whatever dwarf found it that "I'm to be entrusted to you, but not commanded by you." And they took that personally.
I would love a part telling about Rilfar, I loved his voice and Mordaar's quote about him
I really love the Negankerdak story and songs and am really looking forward for the other two parts. Especially since I started to incorporate the sword into my D&D campain. :D
ooo, good, good, love these songs melodies and style, happy there will be 4 :-)
Amazing!!! Can't wait for part 3!!!
Gorgeous. I love this. Also, is it just me, or does Nergankerdak's size seem...odd? In the various art we've seen to now, it seems perhaps a singlehanded blade or maybe hand-and-a-half, but still sized for dwarves. That last scene though, where Mordaar is holding it, makes it apparent that the Unforged is made for something else. Could it be that dwarven pride and conceit led them to change how it was depicted, especially once it was lost?
Negankerdak can change color depending on its "mood."
@@ClamaviDeProfundis It wasn't the color I was remarking on, but the size of the blade itself.
@@drewsmith578 I like to think negankerdak has a switch like Gobber's arm where it can change or be changed out with another tool/size
The dwarves considered it a weapon of their kings, a gift that made them a favoured race, so it makes sense that they would covetously depict it as being dwarf-sized even if it wasn’t.
First! And another master piece! Thanks for this one! You guys should really Collab with Dwarrow scholar he is also making Khuzdul songs. Can't wait for two major Dwarven content creators to join hands!
These songs are both incredible, and I can't wait to see the next two, and hopefully learn more about that cloaked figure spying on them.
I do really wonder about the Guardians as well. They are often associated with the moons (their opening in the first song had the image of the nine moons, and Rilfar in this one sealed Negankerdak with the brand of a moon upon the door). It really feels like each guardian should have some relation to the moons, which makes me wonder if there is a ninth (only 8 sing in the firsr song, one being Rilfar), or if Negankerdak itself is supposed to be one?
I'm also intrigued by who sings the forlorn final verse at the end of the two songs. I assumed at first it was Negankerdak, but the voice is completely unlike the voice of the blade. It's honestly incredible how many questions and how much story is contained within just these two songs, I can't wait for more.
The one singing the last verse is probably either the person Negankerdak is destined to or someone else who must never be allowed to touch it.
Another beautiful song, but is no one going to speak of the looming figure on the left of the finale screen it fills my heart with dread and mind with curiosity at what or who that is.
Beautiful as always 💥💥
Finally a New Video, i love youre music 🥰
I'm guessing you guys have already had this idea. But when all four songs are out, you should post all of them in one video :).
Beautiful work!! Can’t wait to hear more!
I watch parts one and two at least the times a week, sometimes much more. I hope part the comes out soon!!
Honestly I could listen to y'all original works for hours on end.... oh wait... I already do that.
A worthy sequel! I think my favorites of the Saga of Negankerdak are the first one and this one
The voice of Rilfar is so strong.
Truly impressive, especially the Negankerdak's part. Reminded me a little of the voice of the Dormin from SotC, equally mysterious, divine and full of power.
Could you sing Salve Regina?
I think they already did
@@BreninCyhyr No, they haven’t
Really looking forward to see how this story ends.
I was just thinking about the first Negankerdak song today. What a pleasant surprise.
Gave me chills
May I request that you would do The Wellerman by Nathan Evans.
You guys are the best singing group ever! I love how you sing fantasy music, as well as classical and sacred! Keep up the great work!
Love the twist, however, the twist can be untwisted
recall he fell near the black vale. of deceit and snares
recall the figure in the last panel, behind the dwarf
recall that Sauron came to celebrimbor as a gift bearer
recall that Sauron came to numenor as a submissive prisoner
recall that mighty Morgoth was set free to lay ruin to Valinor after deceiving his own brothers and sisters
be not so quick to trust voices of kindness in places so dank or from creatures so dark
Then I pose the counter to you, Donald Bothe. For if Rilfar was a demon true, and could carry the sword, why not would he have used it? A blade crafted by Irina of the hardest material, a mighty blade in the hand of any, and yet it was merely sealed away behind a gate of granite pure. Why would that door be so boldly emblazoned with the sigil of Negankerdak instead of one merely carved plain?
@@Daz0n and why did sauron not reveal his true colors sooner. Deamons do not always just seek power, they seek cruelty. Lure them into trust and then break it after it has been long enough to seem unbreakable
these song have nothing to do with lotr these song are of there own fantasy world of CDP design
@@ExelArts i know. I would have used game of thrones as well but I have never seen it.
Moreover everyone in the comments section was so optimistic and I just gave examples why they should be careful and not hasty. Cruelty is not a purely LOTR property
@@ExelArts That is true, it is perhaps something that I liken them to through the use of how they weave tales lyrically and have written many a song either directly *from* LotR or heavily inspired by it.
Can’t wait for the next song!!
I’m still waiting for the next song🥲
I love the world-building here! And to do it in song! Truly Tolkien-esque.
To awe over but a single treasure, no matter how great, is not the true heart of a dwarf, nay indeed, 'tis the heart of a dragon that does that. So for them to have negankerdak did seem incorrect.
wow.. i cant wait for the next one!
Like the first part, this one was beyond epic, TY for uploading such an amazing masterpiece.
Oh, this ending... I felt shivers when I realized that there is a dark face in the background. :O
Yup... Something still has the chance to go wrong here.
I might have to include Negankerdak in my next homebrew Pathfinder game.
Last time I was this early, ye lad hadn't come join us a warrior yet
I am loving this story, might have to throw something like this at my party in dungeons and dragons sometime. Also really liking the twist that in fact it wasn't a demon that stole it like the last song suggested, showing that the dwarves themselves are unreliable narrators to the event.
I'm guessing the blade was waiting for the braveesoul reformation. The attitude towards such things might better fit the guardian/Irna/nedankerdak's desires.
This is just fantastic, thank you!
Absolutely stunning.
