@@voose03 I think that’s wrong. Some tears come from fear, betrayal and abuse. Some tears are good though. Remembrance of a fallen friend and tears of joy.
Boromir's death was the hardest to deal with. He's introduced as a villain, almost an enemy to the fellowship and almost as soon as he redeems himself in the eyes of the reader/watcher he's taken from us, and he tried so hard to make a difference even as the third arrow struck him. This is a beautiful rendition of Lament for Boromir, thank you for bringing justice to his death.
@@yurachunt3179 extended edition does him and faramir justice. This is a hero, a man, flawed, weak, and broken. Who falls, rises, and raises his sword against the dark. Boldly waging war against the dark until he glimpses the dawn on the horizon. Aragorn could never have stood firm, unless boromir faltered, but still gave his life for his fellows. Boromir's redemption was Aragorn's rebirth.
Sean Bean's acting was so beautiful and so pure. You truly saw a man who cared so deeply for his people that he would have gladly sold his soul to save them. When he summons the strength from his very soul when a lesser man would lay down and die, Boromir *stood and fought*untill he literally had no more blood to bleed. In my deepest heart, I hope the Lords of Valinor gave Boromir's soul a place of honor.
Boromir is such a closely relatable soul. How terrified he must be of the forces of Mordor taking everything from him, his home, his kin. If you thought you could save all by claiming the ring for yourself, would you not?? I think a lot of people judge his character unfairly, if they were in his place, they'd be less noble than he, even in his weakest moment.
His brief temptation for power was shortly lived and a transgression he learned from. He was unafraid to cry and mourn with the hobbits and even demanded they be allowed a moment to grieve “for pity’s sake”. He was a compassionate man with courage and kindness to spare.
He is just a human. A proud and mighty warrior... he sees a weapon and he wants to use it. Plus the corruption of the ring. Aragorn in comparison is too perfect for a human.
When Sauron was faced with judgement for his actions, he fled rather than show that he truly felt remorse for his actions. When Boromir was faced with jdugement for his actions, he defended the hobbits with his life and died for it. That, to me, is the reason Boromir is loved despite his flaws, and it never matters that Sauron was once Mairon for centuries.
@@greenknightofwar7024 That's why men is equally to the gods. Both have a choice. And in the end it just depends if you choose for good instead of evil.
His flaws make him realistic and relatable. No real human is just a hero, every one of us has weak spots. Thats why we often like characters like Boromir the most and find inspiration in them.
As much as I love all the characters dearly.... Gimli is my number 1. Dwarf, (sorry), tough as hell etc etc (not enough time to say why). But Boromir such a very close second. I can relate to the father relationship, I love how he was flawed but by god he TRIED, he tried so freaking hard. And even when he hit the dirt, when he smashed into the bottom of the barrel, he leapt straight back up with all the heroics and all the power he had to muster. He OWNED that mistake. He admitted it with his dying breath, he spent the epic final moments his life trying to make it right and owning up to it. He took on the horde alone, he blew the horn of his forefathers that could summon aid from anywhere within the borders of his land, he walked into a rain of arrows until all strength left his mortal form. I have an incalculable amount of respect for Boromir's character for that. Sam is then my tight 3rd for anyone wondering lol.
I love how forgiving every member of the fellowship of the ring was when Boromir betrayed them. I just think Tolkein did a great job of portraying every aspect of evil- from Sauron (pure evil) and Saruman (greedy for power) to Boromir who did something wrong when faced with temptation due to circumstance, upbringing and the ambiguity of his situation- so much hinged on his decision and he failed as anyone could have but then he found his honour once more and every member of the fellowship acknowledged his good heart in the end
The rest of the fellowship didn’t even know he tried to take the ring. Only Frodo, Sam, and Aragorn knew. Aragorn did not tell the rest of the fellowship to keep boromir good in their eyes
Most of them dont know, he told Aragorn, but Aragorn explicitly did not tell a soul for a long time, he understands, that it was no way Boromirs fault, everyone of them would have tried After enough time and he met Denethor . . .
This line was never in the Book HOWEVER it is one of many lines that was written for the movies that is so thoughtful and delivered so well on the movies that, to me at least, it fits the bill for something Tolkien himself would have written. Just another reason why the Jackson Trilogy is unrivaled.
Mandos is the place, Namo was the Valar who gathered the departed and gave them solace before moving to the next phase of existence (re-embodiment for elves and the journey into the outer dark for those of the race of men).
Have you ever seen it, Aragorn? The White Tower of Ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver, its banners caught high in the morning breeze. Have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets? I have seen the White City, long ago . One day, our paths will lead us there. And the tower guard shall take up the call: "The Lords of Gondor have returned."
This scene always gets me as it is such an emotional scene in the mist of a fight. Boromir had pride for his kingdom, a pride that deep down, he wished Aragorn one day could feel.
To be honest Boromir is the most relatable character to the average man. Inspirational to rise back up even after giving into temptation ( even for what was good intentions).
Defintely. And he appears to be fighting it without even knowing what is affecting him. Frodo is aware of the affect on good men ... having seen it's affect on Boromir
"You left the East Wind to me," said Gimli, "but I will say naught of it." "That is as it should be," said Aragorn. "In Minas Tirith they endure the East Wind, but they do not ask it for tidings"
Jess Caron Mordor is to the east, which is why they do not mention the east wind. It's associated with evil; having Gimli sing it would break custom, and would be sort of insulting to him as well. Though I gotta admit, it is a bit weird he didnt get a verse.
In fact, he does. He says the words about the East wind, after all. That's a kind of a finishing note of the funeral of Boromir. While Aragorn acts as a king-to-be, that is, also like a priest in a sense, Legolas and Gimli are his ministrants here. A moving and elaborate scene in the book.
What might have been (Rewritten from my original version to better match Tolkien's style, and modified to combine elements from the version that Riddle Maker posted): "From the Dark Lord's lands the East Wind blows Though Man heeds not its call . Its voice is steel, its tongue is fire Its tidings filled with gall . What news from the East, oh cursed wind, Do you bring to me at dawn? What news of Boromir the True Whose might has thus passed on? Isildur's Bane lay in your grasp, he alone barred the way. Though tempted by its power and might, From his path he would not stray. He stood alone against the Dark, to see our hope reborn And in his final dying breaths, reclaimed his oath forsworn. So blow, you wind of deathless Night, Your might shall stand no more! You soon shall fear the sacrifice of the Son of Denathor!"
Watching Boromir's story arc in the extended edition makes me cry even harder. Like he dies in the first movie; and it was sad, but then they give you all his family's backstory and twist the knife in your heart in the 2nd and 3rd movies.
Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes "What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight? Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?" "I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey I saw him walk in empty lands until he passed away Into the shadows of the North, I saw him then no more The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor" "O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar But you came not from the empty lands where no men are" From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans "What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve? Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve" "Ask not of me where he doth dwell - so many bones there lie On the white shores, on the dark shores under the stormy sky So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me" "O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward road runs south But you came not with the wailing gulls from the grey sea’s mouth" From the Gate of Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls "What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today? What news of Boromir the Bold? For he is long away" "'Neath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast" "O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days"
I remember reading the books and thinking how beautiful the song was then. But this, this is beyond anything I could have imagined. Karliene you are truly a master Bard
As a veteran with PTSD, this song hits me hard. It is exactly what I feel for those who are no longer here. I have listened to this a hundred times or more. Thank you for helping me find peace after war. Sh!t that kinda rhyrmed. F**K I need more bourbon.
Your fallen brothers fell to protect us all, I thank them everyday for their service. Their sacrifice was not in vain, do not blame yourself for their passing as it was their fate. May God bless you and the rest of your days.
A mile, maybe, from Parth Galen in a little glade not far from the lake he found Boromir. He was sitting with his back to a great tree, as if he was resting. But Aragorn saw that he was pierced with many black-feathered arrows; his sword was still in his hand, but it was broken near the hilt; his horn cloven in two was at his side. Many Orcs lay slain, piled all about him and at his feet. Aragorn knelt beside him. Boromir opened his eyes and strove to speak. At last slow words came. "I tried to take the Ring from Frodo " he said. "I am sorry. I have paid." His glance strayed to his fallen enemies; twenty at least lay there. "They have gone: the Halflings: the Orcs have taken them. I think they are not dead. Orcs bound them." He paused and his eyes closed wearily. After a moment he spoke again. "Farewell, Aragorn! Go to Minas Tirith and save my people! I have failed." "No!" said Aragorn, taking his hand and kissing his brow. "You have conquered. Few have gained such a victory. Be at peace! Minas Tirith shall not fall!" Boromir smiled. "Which way did they go? Was Frodo there?" said Aragorn. But Boromir did not speak again. "Alas!" said Aragorn. "Thus passes the heir of Denethor, Lord of the Tower of Guard! This is a bitter end. Now the Company is all in ruin. It is I that have failed. Vain was Gandalf's trust in me. What shall I do now? Boromir has laid it on me to go to Minas Tirith, and my heart desires it; but where are the Ring and the Bearer? How shall I find them and save the Quest from disaster?" [The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers. Chapter 1. 'The Departure of Boromir'] *So passes Boromir, a brave, proud and honorable Captain of Gondor.*
When I read that scene, I threw my book at the wall, curled up in a sad, hopeless ball on my bed, and cried my eyes out, while cuddling a plushie wolf. It was a bit pathetic.
Boromir is my favorite character in Tolkiens works, and I have read not only The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, but also The Silmarillion each at least once a year since I was 12. He is so often misunderstood, and not only that, _Boromir is absolutely essential to the story._ Without Boromir and his heroic sacrifice, the quest to destroy the ring would have failed utterly. He is the reason that Frodo finally see's the true nature of the ring and it's potential effects on the entire fellowship, even Aragorn. He is how Frodo knows that eventually the ring will corrupt the hearts and minds of all of them. He is also Aragorns inspiration to finally take up the call of his lineage and eventually become the king he was meant to be. This was portrayed so well in the movie too. There are many other reasons Boromir is essential to the story, but far more importantly: he is an example to us all in real life. How one so great can fall so far, and yet still redeem himself before the end. He is human, and fallible, even though he was already a hero, an inspiration and a strength for his people. If you think about the butterfly effect and the simple truth that we are all connected, we will never know just how important this literary character is to all of us who inhabit the Earth. _Heed the warnings in your own hearts, for at times we all are not ourselves._
Yes and no. Boromir does demonstrate to Frodo the Ring's power over the minds of the others of the Fellowship, but Frodo has already all but offered it to Aragorn at the Council of Elrond and Aragorn laughs it off. Aragorn's strength of will is a match even for Sauron, later demonstrated when Aragorn wrests control of the Palantir from him. He, like Faramir, could resist the Ring, and did. Boromir is not Aragorn's inspiration to seek his inheritance. It is always Aragorn's intention to claim the throne, and his doing so is the demand Elrond makes of him before he'll be allowed to marry Arwen, and Anduril is forged from the shards of Narsil before the Fellowship ever sets out from Rivendell in anticipation of his claiming the throne. IIRC he states several times that he will likely leave the Fellowship to journey to Minas Tirith, but after Moria and the fall of Gandalf he feels reluctant to abandon Frodo (which he only does knowing he will be of greater help to Merry and Pippin than to Frodo and Sam.)
Tolkien really had a penchant for creating these anti-heroes... Boromir is a deeply flawed figure yet one of the most beloved characters of LOTR fans. "Few have won such a victory..."
Despite my love for Clamavi De Profundis, this will always and forever be my definitive 'Lament for Boromir'. There is something that binds to your very being when a song/poem/story you hold in your mind is perfectly expressed by another in a way you didn't even know was possible - I feel the loss as if it were my own. Every time I listen to this track I'm shocked by the impact it has and I have listened to it a ridiculous number of times (why I can't find it on Spotify still baffles me). Finding a rendition of any song that matches or surpasses what you have in your own mind is amazing, and this just blows my mind in how perfect it is. Thank you!
I know there are already a ton of comments about Boromir being an amazing character but I just want to add. He was undeniably human. He wasn't pure by any means. He had resentment towards Aragorn (rightly so btw) and just a deep longing to help his people that Aragorn abandoned. The ring manipulated his desires. But he still had honour. He still had the bravery to give his life trying to redeem himself to those he'd betrayed. It just shows what humanity can do in my opinion. No one is free of temptation. And most people succumb to it. But just because you waver doesn't mean it's over. There is always reason to fight against it and do everything in your power to prove yourself better than your own darkness. I don't think any fictional character portrays that importance as much as Boromir
Beautiful song and tribute to this great character. The first time I saw him die, I felt really bad, and it's always the case. Alone against an army, he died like a true warrior. Although he appears only in the first film, Boromir remains one of the most memorable characters of the trilogy and all the Tolkien universe. RIP, Son of the Gondor. :(
+Mathias Poupinais Actually, we do get some extended footage of Boromir in the Two Towers, and very briefly in The Return of the King. In TTT, we see him as Faramir thinks back to the day he left for Rivendell, and the relationship between the two brothers, and their father. In RotK, he only appears as a memory, a brief glimpse seen by either Denethor or Faramir (Cant remember which right now.) Sadly, these only showed up in the extended editions :(
Boromir is only a support act in Fellowship of the Rings, but it clearly carries through how heavy his burdens are in the real world ie. his world of Gondor. It also comes across how central his decision making process is for the betterment/survival of Gondor. Even when corrupted by the Ring, it's due to his love and duty for country. BTW hello to you @Killmaster Mathias Targaryen. 2019 is commenting on your comment 4 years after the fact
"O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze, To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days." Thank you for this, it's very beautiful. I think those are some of the best lyrics Tolkien ever came up with. So epic and touching.
From mountains dark and coasts forlorn the East Wind ever flies, And whispering in silent lands it seeks to spread its lies. 'No news from the East, O treacherous wind, I ask of you at dawn, No news of him who's long been lost, whose loss I'll ever mourn. I will not hear your poisoned words, your visions I won't see, Begone, foul wind, your deadly breath won't dim my memory Of him who fought the night alone to see our hope reborn, Of him who with his dying breath redeemed a vow forsworn. O Boromir, you won't return from North, from South or West, But Boromir, where'er you walk eternally be blessed.' (By Ellisande on AO3)
My favourite character from all of Tolkien's work, so conflicted, so brave and so courageous but ultimately just a man. He held Gondor together when Aragorn selfishly shirked his duty, and on his death bed recognised his King dutifully. I don't believe Peter Jackson does him justice, even if Sean Bean does. An amazing character, on every level, and we didn't even need a love interest to pull at our heart strings. Thank you so much for this.
Tsar Nicholas Don't forget his brother. He might not be as strong as Boromir but he is definetely the better steward and the more virtuous man. (I'm talking about the book, in the movie he is pictured even worse than Boromir)
Tsar Nicholas Yes Boromor is greatly misunderstood by the people, he actually represents the struggles and will of mankind against temptation and evil ... and greatest of all represents redemption and sacrifice. Also Aragorn did not selfishly shirk his duty, (In the books) he was a captain and champion of Gondor under the name Thorondor and brought great victories for Boromir's grandfather ... But he returned to North when his duties as Chieftain of the Arnor and a soldier against Sauron called.
Smellyfeet88 i think that it's mentioned that aragorn was know in gondor under a different name a few decades before the evends of the books (i mean, he's 80 years old at that point...) also, i think that boromir gets kind of shown in a bad light because everyone else resists the ring. gandalf, elrond, galadriel, are all really powerful and resist its influence. the hobbits are weak so it doesn't really call to them that much, but boromir is the only mere mortal man that's around it for that long, so he looks weak-willed in comparison to the elves and wizards.
Such a shame, that this song didn't get chance to be in movie during Boromir's funeral or his last stand. :( Great work, actually got tears in my eyes.
No matter how many times I listen to the song, my body still goes through a physiological joyride. My heart rate increases. My pupils dilate. My body temperature rises. Blood redirects to my legs. My cerebellum becomes more active. My brain flushes with dopamine and a tingly chill whisks down my back and through my arms. May you rest in peace Boromir. Thank you for the amazing song.
Hearing this lament sung in a woman's voice makes it easy to imagine Boromir had a betrothed or lover waiting for him in Minas Tirith who sung this from the top of the White Tower of Ecthelion when he hadn't returned from the north after Denethor sent him off. I can picture her receiving the north wind's reply and just collapsing near the river as Boromir's horn appears floating to her to punctuate the North Wind's words.
Aragorn sang: Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes. ‘What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight? Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight? ‘I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey, I saw him walk in empty lands until he passed away Into the shadows of the North, I saw him then no more. The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor, ‘O Boromir! LOL that makes me think of Sauron whispering "You're all gonna diiiiiieeeee... Gondor you suuuuuuck...." and letting t he wind carry his voice in a creepy way...
he died a hero, trying to the right thing. He made some mistakes, but first and foremost he was a attentive older brother, a faithful son, a great Captain and a formidable warrior. Boromir, you will be missed, the fellowship couldn't have done it without you
It's so sad how many people think Boromir was a villain because they've only seen the movies... He's a wonderful character: He's just a man, no more, no less.
Is it sad that I, a grown man, tear up every time I hear this song? It brings up so many emotions... its a beautiful song, and the only other close one is into the west... karliene thank you for sharing this song... I doubt you’ll read this but thank you.
WOLFPACK for life. This is just beyond words. So beautiful and sad. Karliene I've said it once and twice and will keep saying it. Your voice is a true wonder beyond words. ***** One love to you always my inspirational Northern star. Your brightness shall lead the way for the wolfpack through the cold night and back into the bright sun of the new and vibrant spring days. Have a truly fantastic week. For you have made this week fantastic for so many of us
First time reading lotr, I'm so glad I thought of searching for these songs online to read them for the first time at the same time I hear them beign performed so gorgeously, while I'm experiencing the story for the first time as well.
A fitting tribute to a true hero of Middle-Earth. Again you prove that your skills have not faded in the least. You have this power to paint images with your voice. Every line just came to life when you sang this song. Such talent and passion. Thank you for sharing your gift.
I listen to this almost every night before bed. So melodious and beautiful in every meaning of the word. A perfect song to honor a fallen hero of the fellowship.
Boromir is my all time favorite tolkien character, and this hit me hard, so real to me. It's hauntingly accurate aside from female vocals, the tone, the dynamics, to how I think It would've been sung in the book. On the verge of tears, thank you so much for this.
I am glad I found this song and thank you for singing it so beautifully. I play it for my 18 month old son at his bedtime every night and he falls asleep to it. I listen to it myself and remember all the men in fought beside in Iraq and it feels like you honor their memories with your singing of this song. thank you for men and from the bottom of my heart
there are a few details to these scene alone that every recent medieval series misses - caked nails, deep in dirt, bruised knuckles, torn and patched gloves. Things that would be expected after a battle, and things every other movie maker ommits. Everyone that helped their grandparents pick tomatoes at least once in their lives know those little details don't wash away, no matter how hard you scrub. And people ask me why i think the old movies were better...
I'm dumbstruck just how beautiful this is. One can truly feel the grief that Gondor felt at the passing of one of its boldest sons. You've done justice to Tolkien's magnificent lyrics.
Wow Im speechless I dont know what to say Today I finished Lotr Marraton I have a Extended edition (best 12 hours in my life ) I love Boromir he was a verry proud and strong warior !!!And I love this lament from the first time I read The Fellowship of the ring !!!
One of the few times I've ever cried when someone died in a movie, this is a beautiful rendition of Tolkien ' s poetry. Simply beautiful! I know not what strength lay in my blood, but I swear to you I will not let the White City fall... nor our people fail.
God bless you karliene! i listen this song and almost start to cry at work because its remind me of my father- he loved Boromir in the lord of the rings movies. Alas, my father passed away nearly two month ago from stroke, and this song make me remember and miss him alot.
You left the east wind to me, but I will say naught of it - Gimli That’s is as it should be… in Minas Tirith they endure the east wind, but they do not as it for tidings… - Aragorn
I feel that this is for all the fallen, for everyone who died in a good cause. We know they died well, but we still have lost them and will never have them back. God rest the brave and give the rest of us the strength to endure.
One of the greatest characters in the Tolkien universe, Doesn't matter if it's the books or the movies, Boromir was truly a great character. Every time I watch the movies or read the books Boromir's death hits me hard, How he goes from refusing to acknowledge Aragorn as his King and then in his last minutes after he sacrifices his own life he accepts Aragorn as his King was just beautifully done, Not to mention he was by far one of the best warriors in Middle-Earth. Rest In Peace Boromir.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the official version of this song. THe melody is perfect. The harmonies are sublime, and Karliene's voice is just fantastic.
He led the army to retake Osgiliath, He fought to protect the Hobbits in the blizzard, He fought against the Orcs in the stone halls of Moria, He was also bewitched by the Ring, He died in battle to protect his friends, His name was Boromir, son of Denethor, Son of the Steward of Gondor, When he was dying, he swore allegiance to his king, His last words were "to protect the people"
I love how this song implies that it is Denethor who sings to the wind for news of his son, and that the winds answer. Truly magnificent were the lords of Numenor.
Boromir was one of my favorite characters in this movie series. He was a bit rude to Aragorn during the concuil at Rivendell. One of my favorite parts was in the extended edition and they are still waiting to be admitted into Lothlorien and Boromir is sitting next to Frodo, who is still reeling from Gandalf's death and not talking and Boromir says "Gandalf's death was not in vain, nor would he have you give up hope. You carry a heavy burden, Frodo, don't carry the weight of the dead." Boromir fell hard from the temptation of the Ring, but he redeemed himself by protecting Mery and Pippin before they were captured, and then acknowelged Aragorn as his king.
I've never heard of a singer called Karliene, and i'm glad, to find her, what a wonderful voice, perfect for such a sad and beautiful song, I listen to him over and over again.
I teared up listening to this. I remember reading this part in the Lord of the Rings books, and thought it sounded a bit sad. I would have loved to have heard it in the movies, but they skipped it. So I was glad to hear your interpretation. Thank you.
Spare them a moment, for pity's sake. Of all the quotes in this trilogy, that one holds unapologetically tight onto my conscience more than any other. Boromir was the human who knew humanity greater than any other. Sympathetic and conflicted, his death was just as powerful as his portrayal. He was brilliant.
This hits me hard (beautiful,) the first time I watched this scene in the theaters it reminded me of my own brother and I, he was my brother and my brother in arms. . To command is a burden within itself and the sorrow you carry when a brother you lose, it fills you much with deep sorrow and over time depression, etc. It might be sappy of me or just purely foolish to talk about my own history, but I just wanted to express that this movie and Aragon where big pieces in helping me overcome that grief, depression. I wish at that time I found this song/poem and to hear you sing this is just purely bliss!
"You left the East Wind to me, but I will say naught of it". "That is as it should be. In Minas Tirith they endure the East Wind, but they do not ask it for tidings. But now Boromir has taken his road, and we must make haste to choose our own." And now his watch is ended. I've been a LOTR fan for quite some time, and I've recently become hooked on ASOIAF. Just discovered you and your channel, and I must say I'm quite impressed with everything I've heard so far. I really enjoy listening to your interpretations of the songs I've read on the pages. Thank you for sharing your talent, and I look forward to hearing more :-)
I had a dream some years ago that I was riding across the Pelennor at the end of day and heard this song drifting out from Minas Tirith. It has always stuck with me even three years on.
R.I.P. to the greatest member of the Fellowship, a hero of an embattled people, he did everything to save his country and was taken before his time paying a debt of honour
Because "In this day in age people find it hard to believe that one can be both one who has knowledge of lore and is a leader of men" I couldn't resist the Gandalf quote :)
You know what I would pay thousands even MILLION of dollars to see? A series about Boromir and Faramir protecting Gondor before the Fellowship of The ring. That would be a marvel to behold.
Oh, really? I just put it on loop and enjoy it four hours...Thats impossible on a phone however, unless theres a a way to loop on the phone? Anyway that's what hour and ten hour versions are for--I don't think theres a ten hour or even one hour version of this...can someone make one?
Every single time I listen to this it makes my heart swell with emotion..it breaks my heart for the fallen hero but uplifts my spirit for his valiant sacrifice...it just is perfect. Tears every single time.
I listen to this all day, during school and work and play,I never cease to listen,I am memorizing this song, though I could never make it sound as beautiful as Karlien does, no, no, not all...what news from the south do bring to me at eve..
I love him, too. Some people focus on how "proud" he was, and yes, he was a proud man. But not for himself, only for his country, his people, and their welfare. He was flawed, but he redeemed himself in the most heroic and selfless fashion, and that's why we love him.
The song, the way you sang it gave me chills all throughout my body. Hair on my legs was sticking up, like on a cat. I loved it! So that's what a good singer can do with these lyrics...
My god I am a huge fan of your music really, but this tops everything you did so far. The emotions in your voice make me tear up. It is very moving. I am a huge fan of the lyrics. You made them come to life in a unique way. You do so much justice to the material. Keep it up. I keep listening to it. Really you love all the shows, movies and books I enjoy, too. "I will not say do not weep, for not all tears are an evil" -Gandalf the Grey.
That’s not a line I liked at all, to me all tears are good
@@voose03 I dunno. I think that, for example, when one cries because of someone who hurt you and you don't deserve it, that's a pity to cry over.
Wasn't Gandalf already white when he said those words?
@@guilleramirez4292 yeh, sure was
@@voose03 I think that’s wrong. Some tears come from fear, betrayal and abuse.

+Kerrigan Fairbairn I wouldn't say better, all truth.
shame the film did absolutely nothing to tell us who he was before he died
He was not intreduced as a villain, he was a supportcharacter that fall and was honest and redeeming about it. . .
A man with a big heart, that was his only crime; compassion...
Even Faramir thought the same.
His brief temptation for power was shortly lived and a transgression he learned from. He was unafraid to cry and mourn with the hobbits and even demanded they be allowed a moment to grieve “for pity’s sake”. He was a compassionate man with courage and kindness to spare.
@@jefeogroFaramir never was tempted in the books. He was Aragorn level
The irony of when a man is more worthy then a god.
didn't know sauron was such a pussy
Most of them dont know, he told Aragorn, but Aragorn explicitly did not tell a soul for a long time, he understands, that it was no way Boromirs fault, everyone of them would have tried After enough time and he met Denethor . . .
I love how Frodo understood immediately that the Ring was affecting him and it was ALL him
@@dearmalaysia That's why he left.
C.S Lewis & Tolkien had the gift that they tried to import into humanity by showing forgiveness is an important element of Humanity.
“I would have followed you, my brother, my captain, my king.” May Mandos see you to safety, son of Gondor
Surely Ilu Vatar has a great rest and gift for this mighty son of Gondor.

@@blissky420 Indeed!
Songs in fantasy novels are one of my favourite things. I imagine it's one of the hardest things to write, if you are no poet at least.
+Alleksa9441 Got chills reading that.
"They will look for his coming from the White Tower. But he will not return."
This scene always gets me as it is such an emotional scene in the mist of a fight. Boromir had pride for his kingdom, a pride that deep down, he wished Aragorn one day could feel.
He does! He was a sellsword in Gondor decades ago!
Jess Caron He wasn't a sellsword, he became one of Denethor's father's greatest captains and most trusted advisors.
Cause he’s the only real human, closest to what we are
He and Faramir both are the most relatable characters.
@@alexk8599 Theoden too
"You left the East Wind to me," said Gimli, "but I will say naught of it."
"That is as it should be," said Aragorn. "In Minas Tirith they endure the East Wind, but they do not ask it for tidings"
That's actually really obnoxious to exclude Gimli from the song! Which one of them did two winds instead of one? :)
What might have been (Rewritten from my original version to better match Tolkien's style, and modified to combine elements from the version that Riddle Maker posted):
"From the Dark Lord's lands the East Wind blows
Though Man heeds not its call
.
Its voice is steel, its tongue is fire
Its tidings filled with gall
.
What news from the East, oh cursed wind,
Do you bring to me at dawn?
What news of Boromir the True
Whose might has thus passed on?
Isildur's Bane lay in your grasp, he alone barred the way.
Though tempted by its power and might,
From his path he would not stray.
He stood alone against the Dark, to see our hope reborn
And in his final dying breaths, reclaimed his oath forsworn.
So blow, you wind of deathless Night,
Your might shall stand no more!
You soon shall fear the sacrifice
of the Son of Denathor!"
Oh my, can we please add that verse to the song? That was chilling!
Watching Boromir's story arc in the extended edition makes me cry even harder. Like he dies in the first movie; and it was sad, but then they give you all his family's backstory and twist the knife in your heart in the 2nd and 3rd movies.

I have failed."
"No!" said Aragorn, taking his hand and kissing his brow. "You have conquered. Few have gained such a victory. Be at peace! Minas Tirith shall not fall!"
Boromir smiled.
How shall I find them and save the Quest from disaster?"

this was a beautiful piece. I am immensely grateful to you for sharing it
Boromir is my favorite character in Tolkiens works, and I have read not only The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, but also The Silmarillion each at least once a year since I was 12.
_Heed the warnings in your own hearts, for at times we all are not ourselves._
well said
"Few have won such a victory..."
too true. we all make mistakes but in our heart of hearts we are good people. Boromir's fate makes me believe that there can be redemption
His last fight was like of Roland The Knight's from the medieval masterpiece "The Song of Roland"...
Thank you!
This right here is why Tolkien is the best fantasy writer of all times.
Awesome melody and singing, very touching
Wow😱Really beautiful comment😔Im glad i found it😊
Anakin Skywalker raises his hand.....
He stood no chance being human under the will of the one ring that began calling to him on day 1.

From mountains dark and coasts forlorn the East Wind ever flies,
And whispering in silent lands it seeks to spread its lies.
'No news from the East, O treacherous wind, I ask of you at dawn,
No news of him who's long been lost, whose loss I'll ever mourn.
I will not hear your poisoned words, your visions I won't see,
Begone, foul wind, your deadly breath won't dim my memory
Of him who fought the night alone to see our hope reborn,
Of him who with his dying breath redeemed a vow forsworn.
O Boromir, you won't return from North, from South or West,
But Boromir, where'er you walk eternally be blessed.'

Sayantan Mondal Can you please tell me where is it mentioned that Aragorn was a champion of Gondor? Couldn't find it
***** Thank you very much Brianna
Smellyfeet88 i think that it's mentioned that aragorn was know in gondor under a different name a few decades before the evends of the books (i mean, he's 80 years old at that point...)
also, i think that boromir gets kind of shown in a bad light because everyone else resists the ring. gandalf, elrond, galadriel, are all really powerful and resist its influence. the hobbits are weak so it doesn't really call to them that much, but boromir is the only mere mortal man that's around it for that long, so he looks weak-willed in comparison to the elves and wizards.
I know it's been 7 years since i first heard this.
But it still holds the power to seize my heart.
Thank you, again, for this.
Such a shame, that this song didn't get chance to be in movie during Boromir's funeral or his last stand. :( Great work, actually got tears in my eyes.

This Sound so godly! I really love your voice it takes me to another world :)
Here Are The lyrics!
Aragorn sang:
Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows
The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes.
‘What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight?
Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?
‘I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey,
I saw him walk in empty lands until he passed away
Into the shadows of the North, I saw him then no more.
The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor,
‘O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar,
But you came not from the empty lands where no men are.’
Then Legolas sang:
From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones,
The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans.
‘What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve?
Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve.
‘Ask not of me where he doth dwell - so many bones there lie,
On the white shores and the dark shores under the stormy sky,
So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea.
Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me!’
‘O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward roads runs south,
But you came not with the wailing gulls from the grey sea’s mouth’.
Then Aragorn sang again:
From the Gate of the Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls,
And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls.
‘What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today?
What news of Boromir the bold? For he is long away.’
‘Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought,
His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought.
His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest,
And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast.
‘O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze,
To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.
Thank you!
Many Many Thanks
Thanks
The Two Towers
Book Three
Chapter 1: The Departure of Boromir, 5th page (according to my copy)
You left the East wind to me.
But I will say naught of it.
And Gimli spoke not for the wind of the east was left to him, and men look naught to the east wind for news.
They will endure it, but listen not, for to the east... To the east lies Mordor...
Yay! Someone got the reference!
LOL that makes me think of Sauron whispering "You're all gonna diiiiiieeeee... Gondor you suuuuuuck...." and letting t he wind carry his voice in a creepy way...
LMAO! They had him sorta do that in the movie! Oh that's just a funny mental image! XD
"They will look for him from the white tower, but he will not return from mountain or from sea."
he died a hero, trying to the right thing.
10 yrs late, but I am so glad I found this version. The grief and sorrow is far more potent. Ti's perfect
a Man like any other conflicted and weak , but at the end he showed what we all wish we will have at the end courage, fix what we did wrong .
Your talent is unlimited and your creativity a cosmos upon itself. Each time I get a notification of a new song upload of yours I am in awe of what you have posted. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. Thank your for the smiles and the tears. You are a blessing upon all who proudly call out WOLFPACK and we stand strong behind our bard Karliene the Weaver of words and voice of us all. Thank you so much
***** One love to you always my inspirational Northern star.
Song still breaks my heart every time. Perfection. ❤
The way I am absolutely destroyed by this song is proof of how powerful it is!
O Sorry I mean The Two Towers aa This is a awkard !!
One of the few times I've ever cried when someone died in a movie, this is a beautiful rendition of Tolkien ' s poetry. Simply beautiful!
I know not what strength lay in my blood, but I swear to you I will not let the White City fall... nor our people fail.
beautifull voice and a fitting lament for a noble man who ultimately overcones his human weaknesses to die a hero...thank you.
God bless you karliene! i listen this song and almost start to cry at work because its remind me of my father- he loved Boromir in the lord of the rings movies. Alas, my father passed away nearly two month ago from stroke, and this song make me remember and miss him alot.
***** thank you very much!
You left the east wind to me, but I will say naught of it - Gimli
That’s is as it should be… in Minas Tirith they endure the east wind, but they do not as it for tidings… - Aragorn
Tolkien himself would shed tears of joy if he could hear this. So beautiful.
This is exactly how I hoped this Lament would sound when I first read the books
This is pure magic, it's so beautiful
He led the army to retake Osgiliath,
He fought to protect the Hobbits in the blizzard,
He fought against the Orcs in the stone halls of Moria,
He was also bewitched by the Ring,
He died in battle to protect his friends,
His name was Boromir, son of Denethor,
Son of the Steward of Gondor,
When he was dying, he swore allegiance to his king,
His last words were "to protect the people"
I had holy forgotten this song.... It even gave me shivers reading it. Daym, this version makes me wanna read the books all over. Amazing work
This has to be the best version.
This always brings me to tears. I miss you Boromir.
I love how this song implies that it is Denethor who sings to the wind for news of his son, and that the winds answer. Truly magnificent were the lords of Numenor.
8 YEARS? WHY today is the first time RUclips recommend it to me listening to so many versions 😅
When people ask why Tolkien is my favourite author, I show them this.
Right? The songs and poetry are all beautiful. Aside from the wonderful stories.
The pictures tell a tale strong but the music carries the Soul of man to a higher sense of how our Soul should meet the Heavens for evermore.
Definitely one of the best songs I ever heared on youtube. Big thumb up.
Your voice, the words, brought literal tears to my eyes. Absolutely beautiful.
Boromir was such an important character. Showing us exactly what the corrupting power of the ring can do to men who are good of heart.
But now Boromir has taken his road, and we must make haste to choose our own."
And now his watch is ended.
R.I.P. to the greatest member of the Fellowship, a hero of an embattled people, he did everything to save his country and was taken before his time paying a debt of honour
well said boromir was the greatest warrior in all of middle earth(not counting astiari, maiars, and lesser gods
Because "In this day in age people find it hard to believe that one can be both one who has knowledge of lore and is a leader of men" I couldn't resist the Gandalf quote :)
Beautiful! I love these books and the songs often sweep me away. What a beautiful voice.
So sad. ;_; Beautiful work, Karliene!
This is well done. I can feel the grief of Aragorn and Legolas in this song. Very sublime.
You know what I would pay thousands even MILLION of dollars to see? A series about Boromir and Faramir protecting Gondor before the Fellowship of The ring. That would be a marvel to behold.
"To Rauros, golden Rauros falls, Until the end of days" always brings a tear to my eye
this is absolutely beautiful, really. please put this on Spotify
They will look for his coming from the White Tower but he will not return. Find peace son of Gondor.
Wonderfull version Karliene!
That's it, I'm so gonna subscribe to you. This is marvelous, Gondor is proud!
Like seriously girl, this is the 8th time I listen to this song in a row.
Oh, really? I just put it on loop and enjoy it four hours...Thats impossible on a phone however, unless theres a a way to loop on the phone? Anyway that's what hour and ten hour versions are for--I don't think theres a ten hour or even one hour version of this...can someone make one?
+Tiffany Smith get the ProTube app. It lets you loop videos.
It makes me cry and smile at the same time. I love your voice, Karliene, it's so magical and full of emotions *.*
Fantastic!! I love it! Great work Karliene!!!
Love this my friend and can't help sing along
Every single time I listen to this it makes my heart swell with emotion..it breaks my heart for the fallen hero but uplifts my spirit for his valiant sacrifice...it just is perfect. Tears every single time.
I love the way the 'r' in 'Boromir" is pronounced,
Tolkien was a linguist; all the "r"s in Elvish languages are rolled.
Jess Caron
Oh, that's interesting. I had no idea. Well, I'm Polish and it's the only way we pronounce "r". I think it sounds really nice :)
***** You roll your "r"s too! I speak Spanish and I think the rolled r is beautiful. Do you ever do just the single tap for the r?
Jess Caron I wish I could roll my "r"s! I'm trying to learn to do it.
***** Well, I've learned to do it when I was 6 years old. So good luck! It's not the easiest sound.
I listen to this all day, during school and work and play,I never cease to listen,I am memorizing this song, though I could never make it sound as beautiful as Karlien does, no, no, not all...what news from the south do bring to me at eve..
Boromir. My favorite character. His every action was for his people. He is nothing if not a TRUE steward, a servant of Gondor.
Your channel brings so much joy to me. Thank you so much again.
*****
you have a phenomenal voice. I can't express it enough. Your RUclips Channel is one of my favourites. Keep going. Your tribute to Robin Williams had me in tears, too. Greetings from Cologne Germany
Mükemmel bir başyapıt. Spotify de keşke olsa. Meditasyon yaparken ritim ses tonunuz cok güzel
