In the books, this song is actually written about Tyrion and his love affair with Shae but seeing as that chapter has long closed in the show, could it now be referencing Jamie and Cersei?

In case anyone is wondering: The song is from the books. It was made by Symon Silvertongue to blackmail tyrion. Its actually about Tyrion and shae, nobody else. Tyrion orders bronn to kill him after Symon tried to blackmail him with it. Hands of gold = Tyrion when he was hand of the king. "And a chain and a keep are nothing" = In the books tyrion uses a Giant chain to seperate stannis' fleet in blackwater bay after he burns down half of it.
@John Doe In the books Symon Silvertongue was a singer in King's Landing. He tells Tyrion that if Tyrion doesn't find a way to let Symon participate in a "Tournament of singers" at Joffrey's upcoming wedding, he'd tell Cersei and Tywin about Tyrion bringing Shae to King's Landing. Symon sang this song for Tyrion, telling him that he would sing it to Tywin and Cersei (it's basically about Tyrion's secret "visits" with Shae).
TheInkCanvas The chain is actually the real symbol of the Hand of the King in the books (instead of the hand-shaped pin we see in the show), it’s made of plenty of golden hands locked on one another to form a chain that the Hand can wear around his neck. When Tyrion strangled Shae, he used the chain of the Hand because Shae was in his father’s chambers and his father was the current Hand of the King
If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Tyrion finish the song by creating the chorus?
Naadir Joseph he considered it when he faced execution (if he lived through it) but I don’t remember he ever did it after he escaped
The line about the chain makes more sense to be the chain that was the symbol of the hand of the King, especially considering "Hand of Gold"is a lyric. Regardless, the fact that "a chain" is coupled with "a Keep" makes it clear that it symbolises that power or status aren't as important "compared to a womans kiss".
I like how you started it out with Ed Sheeran, and jumped in. That was beautifully done.

To those who haven't read the books, this song is composed by a singer who wants to blackmail Tyrion who has been hiding shae in a mansion he bought for her.
She's a secret and if Tywin or Cersei find out, it would mean her death.
The hands of gold symbolise the position and chain of golden hands given to Tyrion as acting Hand of the King.
He eventually has the singer killed to keep shae safe and the song remains unfinished

@@ceilingfanenthusiast6041 They are in the books, but they're not the same song. I just added it here because they fit incredibly well together, and since the song is not directly aimed at Tyrion (despite being aimed at Tyrion), you could technically say that the subject of the song is anyone.

This song just grabs my heart and mind every single bloody time, and the image is chosen perfectly. R.R.Martin certainly is good at breaking his reader's hearts, but the love between Shae & Tyrion going belly up hurt badly. For a clever man Tyrion certainly ***** at letting down a woman easy.

old comment but to be fair in the books there was never a love between them. Tyrion loved Shae, but she was a whore who treated him as a mark and nothing more. In the end this is why he ends up killing her, because she turns on him, humiliates him in public, and shatters that illusion in the harshest manner possible. And then has sex with his father for pay. For Tyrion, Shae was his second chance at his love with Tysha. For Shae, Tyrion was a rich and powerful client who could give her anything she wanted. It's much more sad in the show because it's clear that Shae does love Tyrion, and him attempting to protect her only makes her believe he was treating her like a disposable whore - a sort of reversal of the book roles - and so she lashed out believing he betrayed her first. This is also why in the show she attacks him first, but in the books she attempts to seduce him again and this triggers a rage. This is also why in the show he kills his father over calling Shae a whore - because their relationship was more than that - but in the book he does it over calling Tysha a whore - who was an innocent farmgirl Tywin had gang raped for daring to marry above her station.
Tl;dr I know but I just wanted to point out that the romance and it going belly up is not actually RR's input. That is a rare thing D&D did arguably well, rather than RR's original writing.
Much better than the TV cameo. Your voice is the definitive version!
you know what is very horrifyingly sad rewatch the battle where dany sets the lanister fleets a blaze mute it and play this song it snycs up and is intense to watch and when you sing the part oh winds of gold the fire blazes ie winds of gold winds gold in color that are filled with fire it creates for a very magical experiance to say the least

I get chills every time I watch this. I didn't realise hoe sad this song was for so long.
When Tyrion kills share he strangle her with his father's necklace of two golden hands (hand of the king). As he's strangling her he sees the necklace and thinks the song to himself while he watches the life drains from her through his tear covered eyes
When winter comes, the cold winds blow, a womans voice is always warming on the soul.
