Serious Plot Twist: The mermaids actually learned this song by listening every night to the singing of the lighthouse keeper's widow, Maria. She flung herself from the rocky cliffs at Mermaid's Cove after receiving news that her husband William had drowned at sea while sailing home from the War of Spanish Succession, and that's why the lighthouse is abandoned by the time of Pirates Of The Carribbean 4.
@@treeko10k30 sirens sing to lure in prey. ive also heard that they appear as the prey's most beloved person or thing. i dont think mermaids are like that too.
“And firmly pray arrive the day He’s never more to roam” Probably my favourite part. At first it sounds like a young maiden praying and hoping that her lover will return to her having satisfied his thirst for adventure and danger, so that they can settle down and be together, live happily. It’s innocent and sweet. … but then you realise that this is sung by a siren who’s trying to lure a sailor to his death, and suddenly him “not roaming anymore” takes on a much darker and more eerie meaning…
I just realised that the line “Conversing with a young lass who seemed to be in pain, saying “William, when you go I fear you’ll ne’er return again”.” Is in fact the mermaids reciting an interaction they overheard between Will and Elizabeth, they even described him accurately “his hair, it hangs in ringlets, his eyes as black as coal.”
What if all of it is just the mermaid singing things she heard? What if mermaids can only repeat things? Maybe they don't speak English at all, but just sing things that they recognized the tone as loving? Her name may not be Maria!
I sing "come little children" in my bathroom with a mic and speaker at night just to freak out my family. This song I'll sing next. I'll tell you how it goes
FUN FACT: in Greek most ancient myths mermaids are NOT hostile but only looking for love. the ones we see in pirates is a cross between a siren and mermaid.
The sister of Alexander the Great was a mermaid, well,a myth say's she was stoping some sailors and ask if the king Alexander is alive and if they said no,she drowning their boats
And og sirens are actually birdlike but reside around lagoons and open ocean spaces because they fly and that was before they where cursed to the oceans !
What are your sources? I studied ancient Greek and I'm not aware of this (yet yes, the first sirens were birds). Even from Odyssey of Homerus these are evil creatures who wanted to kill the sailors
This feels like it would fit in a horror movie about an abusive sailor's wife drowning in the sea and before dying, her rage and vengance has formed an oath that promise torment and agony, her oath became reality and she became a beautiful siren with a voice as hypnotising as the Seraph's lullaby. Now, she sang this song everytime a new boat come across, and with each time the song stop, another body is placed in the bottom of the blue abyss. Edit: Tbh, i didnt expect yall to actually see anything impressive in this idea, it was just one of those thoughts u get randomly watching a vid, but thx for leaving ur love on my comment :D
What if the sailor wasn't abusive, but when he left, he wasn't able to protect her from a local noble who took it upon himself to rape her, and then she lept from the cliffs and her spirit ended up blaming her beloved sailor for her untimely death, so he had to put her soul to rest, maybe even getting claimed by the sea in the process and ending up spending eternity with her
This makes me believe that sirens are among us. This can't be a simple human voice. Every time I listen to this, I am at someplace else in my brain I didn't know existed!
There is one actually. Theres a girl named JADA who sang this song and many Disney classics, and then there's Laura Paley (Laura probably isn't spelled correctly but you'll still find her lol) she sings in places like stairwells a lot of the time and even does dios with other "sirens". They are both really beautiful singers and I hope this matches your wishes :)
I read a tumblr post about how magically creatures never really went extinct they just mates with humans and sometimes people show the different species within them through their talents. If that is true then you are decedent from the sirens
in folklores, sirens do sing but not with words, more like a humming so that they can temp some sailors and pirates to come near them and make them their meal. idk which version is that but it's a folklore.😅

did you know that those are actually sirens? Sirens are the ones that sing to lure sailors in to eat them not mermaids. Sirens also are hald bird and half woman, not half fish! Its a common misconception but its the truth!
I really have a feeling that the words she is singing have no meaning to her whatsoever. She doesn't care about him, she just wants to take him for her own. The reason she sings such sad and thoughtful lyrics is simply another ruse to lure in said jolly sailor. For example, when she says, "I pray the day to come that, he's never more to roam". This isn't her wanting him to not sail anymore, this is her wanting to take him overboard and drown him, as she did with many other "jolly sailors". Oh also, I'm pretty sure that some cultures say that the sirens are attracted to gold and it is sometimes used to trap the creatures. This could be why she says that she disdains all glittering gold. While she is attracted to it, it is a possible death sentence. And in the song, a warning to the sailors that it could be the only way to escape her. Thank you guys for hearing my theory, just thought I'd put out my thoughts. Decipher this how you will.
That's what a siren is... she doesn't care about the man. She enchants him, bewitches him, then lures him with treasure that she hates because that's all the man wants, not her, so she drags him overboard into the murky depths & drowns him.

I know it's really not fun, but try to widen your range by actually taking on certain mezzo songs that go a bit deeper :) It's not about perfecting what doesn't come natural to you, but to get at least some strength for briefer notes that are much lower than your common register. Just fucking imagine youre out in the middle of the ocean and you freaking heard someone singing very softly. youre the only person who can hear it. Damn😵
Ariel was a Mermaid NOT a Siren. Mermaids (half-human half-fish)were thought to be naive and would easily fall in love with humans and would even save them from shipwrecks. Sirens on the other hand were originally bird/human hybrids that would wait near oceans to lure humans into shipwrecks and/or drown them (by singing) . They were also considered very beautiful and resembled angles so it's believed that a jealous god removed all their feathers causing them to drown; however, another god, who pitted the sirens, gave them gills and a tail. They were considered hideous after all their feathers were gone so they would hypnotize sailers to appear like beautiful woman/mermaids in order to eat. This would cause many sailers to also fear mermaids and even kill them despite their innocence. Hence the constant confusion between mermaids and sirens. Note: Im not sure if I got all the details correct since I wrote this by memory. I also wanted to say that this explanation stems from Greek mythology.
I love that the vibe of this song is not calming, but panicking. It is like, once the song ended- and the dead silence consumes the place. It's your time to die. Man. Imagine hearing this alone. uwu

This song and the way it's sung makes me think the siren is playing the part of "Maria", and luring her "jolly sailor bold" to their watery graves. In physics also, “siren“ alarms has taken their name from mythical “Siren”s which I mentioned above. The metaphorical relation between them is the sirens‘ voice and siren alarms sound. In fact, a siren alarm consist of a rotating circle plate or disk with some holes are made on it, while the disk is rotating, dense air is blown to it and by going through the holes the sound of alarm is made, somehow similar to whistling mechanism in musical instruments. Only in siren the dense air blown to a flat rotating disk and not to a calendar like flute or saxophone. Whistle alarm of the factories made for alarming the lunch time, ambulance and police car alarms are some kind of sirens. The melody of these alarms could be diverse according to some factors like the numbers of the holes made on the disk, the arrangement of the holes, the rotational speed of the disk, .... .

This song and the way it's sung makes me think the siren is playing the part of "Maria", and luring her "jolly sailor bold" to their watery graves. She feeds them an illusion, a story of a beautiful maiden fair, young and wanting that will never leave them, rich beyond their wildest dreams that has given up all for her love, so surely, if they love her, they'll give up everything for her in return...

This person must be a famous singer, if not i don't know what other people are missing, she has a beautiful voice.
This song would be perfect for a siren: I can almost picture her heartbreaking beauty, and hear such a smooth, alluring voice to match an angels’ face as she lures sailors to the depths of the dark, dangerous ocean. It’s perfect innocence in the midst of utter monstrosity. Behind those wide, fathomless eyes lies a starving creature, cursed to forever be hungry, to never know peace of mind. And so they’re forever singing, to eat the flesh of sailor men, mournful but resigned.

My Jolly Sailor Bold
Upon one summer's morning,
I carefully did stray
Down by the Walls of Wapping, where I met a sailor gay
Conversing with a young lass
who seemed to be in pain
Saying William, when you go
I fear you will never return again
My heart is pierced by Cupid
I disdain all glittering gold
There is nothing can console me
But my jolly sailor bold
His hair it hangs in ringlets,
his eyes as black as coal
My happiness attend him
wherever he may go
From Tower Hill to Blackwall,
I'll wander, weep and moan
All for my jolly sailor,
until he sails home
My heart is pierced by Cupid
I disdain all glittering gold
There is nothing can console me
But my jolly sailor bold
My name it is Maria,
a merchant's daughter fair
and I have left my parents
and three thousand pounds a year Come all you pretty fair maids, whoever you may be
Who love a jolly sailor
That ploughs the raging sea
While up aloft in storm,
from me his absence mourn
And firmly pray, arrive the day,
he's never more to roam
My heart is pierced by Cupid
I disdain all glittering gold
There is nothing, can console me
But my jolly sailor bold

@@sinimeg actually "gay" means "happy", it was common for people say this in the past. and the song occurs between 1800 and something right?
idk if im right, but my teacher told me this
@@I-luv-sharks Yeah, but the song was created in this era, and only people who are native english speakers knows that. I didn’t know about that meaning till recent years. It just make me sad that no one else thought about a gay couple, and just assumed that, again, it was about a man and a woman even though the word gay is in the song…
Anyway, that’s my interpretation, that the siren heard a gay couple, or that the siren was in love with a sailor girl, one a sailor and the other a merchant’s kid, and then sang about them because she liked their story, or sang about her romance with this woman
(I quit my other comment because it was a bit aggressive, and I don’t want to fight with anyone)
@@I-luv-sharks Also, it has no sense that the word gay in this song means happy, because they’re literally is saying goodbye to their lover without knowing if they’ll ever meet again

Hold on to your soul Mr. Gibbs, because they say the mermaids take the rest, even the bones.
-Hector Barbossa
Her voice is literally mesmerizing!!!
As I know, in Greek mythology siren is the symbol of the feminine seduction that impressed the male sailors through her voice and by magnetizing to her voice the sailors drown in the depth of the seas. But your voice I think not only isn’t a seduction but also is some kind of purification that at least on me has the impact of meditation. You are so gifted! Your voice pierces the Cupid’s heart. 💘👼

In the territory of science in general, it has been very common to name a scientific achievement after the name of ancient mythical characters to which the case name could be connected metaphorically, like: “Narcissism” and “Oedipus complex” in psychology, after the name of “Narcissus” and “oedipus”, or “Aphrodisiac” drugs or substances, after the name of “ Aphrodite” in Greek mythology.
The melody of these alarms could be diverse according to some factors like the numbers of the holes made on the disk, the arrangement of the holes, the rotational speed of the disk, .... .

The essence of a siren was definitely heavily imbued in this song. The intention of the voice itself is dark water by nature. Carried me to some dark and scary watery place. So beautiful yet so dark and scary...
My, God, a reincarnated Siren. Let me drown the waters, I'll follow this sound.
"mermaids, cap'n."
"Aye mermaids. Sea ghouls, devilfish. Dreadfull in hunger for flesh of man. Mermaid waters, that be our path. "
"cling to your soul gibbs, as mermaids be given to take the rest...
To the bone."
"Boys! There ain't much been given to me in my brief, miserable life, there's the truth of it. But by God, I'll have it said that Scrum had himself a kiss from a proper mermaid!" -Scrum

I Close my eyes and I can imagine it so clearly that in the middle of the ocean all alone in a little vessel.
More than just a luring or enticing voice it sounds to me as intriguing and scary at the same time, giving some dark vibes like anything could happen at any time.🖤
But however it is, it's fab.
Well, if you were a mermaid and I was somewhere in the sea, I would probably jump in the water because of your voice - so enchanting, beautiful, haunting as if from another world.
But in reality, I am not near the sea, so it must be enough for me to repeat it over and over.
