    "The Loss of Negankerdak" is an original song we wrote taking place in an original fantasy world. The song centers on a pure and unbreakable material, "black diamond" and a sword naturally formed of this material. Please see the description for more details. We hope you enjoy it:)

    • @GrimgoreIronhide
      @GrimgoreIronhide 3 года назад +48

      Dwarves have always used swords, in the early norse mythology in fact, there is note made of a few swords used by dwarves, but no axes. The Axes and Hammer wielding dwarves seem to have come in later. In fact, Lord of the Rings may have introduced this idea in the hobbit when its noted that the dwarfs of Dains company use hammers rather than swords in battle.

    In the hollow of a great cleft of rock, a group of figures huddle around a crackling fire. They are girt with shining mail, and lean upon gleaming axes. Lost in thought, the weary dwarves stare into the depths of the flames.
    From among their number, a child's voice is heard:
    "Father, can you tell me of the theft of the Black Sword?"
    An older dwarf, grey in his long, braided beard, looks up. His forehead creases in thought for a moment, and slowly begins to nod assent.
    He looks to the others in his party, and they begin to hum, a sound to shake the bones of the Earth...

    The development of story in this song is incredible. The 'gods'/guardians are introduced first, and we get a basic sense of what they are, and that they are powerful and important. Then we learn about the black diamond from dwarves, we are introduced to its properties, the most important being 'it cannot be shaped'. We are told this metal is very rare.
    At this moment, everything we just learned builds up to great praise of the Negankerdak. When we already know black diamond cannot be shaped and is super rare, we automaticaly see Negankerdak as something absolutely legendary. AND, not only that, but the guardians themselves can't praise it enough. Dwarves have it, but the high beings tell us how valuable it really is.
    And after we fall in love with this precious treasure, we get emotional in the end when it's fricking gone.

    A sword made of unbreakable material, formed in the earth by a divine intervention/fate/sheer chance, and unique because of that, is such a genius concept that it left me speechless for a while. And as far as I'm aware, it's also a really original idea.

    • @Krawurxus
      @Krawurxus 3 года назад +132

      The genius part if that this absolutely reinforces and even confirms the Dwarves in their religious conviction of being favored by the Earth while also being easily explained by sheer chance.
      I can only imagine how crushing it would be for such a people to have the centerpiece of their religion and the one gift by their god solely meant for them stolen. It's not just losing a huge part of their cultural identity but also like they failed their deity on a personal level.
      This McGuffin would be infinitely superior to the Arkenstone in The Hobbit because there's actual reason for every Dwarf in the world to care.
      As in: I'd believe that any Dwarf would be willing to burn down the entire world if it meant recovering this weapon.

    • @GrimgoreIronhide
      @GrimgoreIronhide 3 года назад +11

      I would caution against makeing the fates of such artifacts so symetrical. The history and events sorounding magical artifacts should be unique rather than mirroring one another.
      If every race got such a treasure and then they all lost them that makes the treasures seem like they are all part of the same destiny, while also destroying their uniqueness. Nagancadak stops being itself and starts being just "the dwarves magic faction treasure that was stolen like all the others."

      I'm currently preparing my own campaign. And I took many things from different places. Norse Mythology mixed with Monster Hunter Lore, Monster Hunter monsters mixed with D&D Races, and MH subraces.Dwarven lore heavily modified from LOTR and Clamvi.
      [Prophecy of the End Times]
      Prophecy about my players, which they will only find scraps of throughout their adventure:
      When 6 souls find themselves together,
      bound by a formless tether,
      when ashes rain forever,
      and blood drips on a books leather,
      then he will start stirring in the Nether.
      When the hound breaks its chains
      at the place where chaos reigns,
      when 6 souls are in the serpent's presence,
      the dwarves will prepare their vengeance.
      When dwarves set sail for ancient shore,
      when the gods will start the final war,
      the 4 Aspects at their core,
      mana will flow to Gargonia once more.
      When 6 souls are willing to ascend,
      that's when the Ragnarök will end.
      [Hammerdeep]
      Ancient home of the Dwarves out in the ocean on a great Island. Dwarves and Hammerdeep were created by the God of War and the God of Craftsmanship as one of the many Races to counter the rapid rising of Chaos in the War of Ancients.
      In Retaliation against an attack from infected Dragons, the Dwarves attacked them at the Dranea (Drenee) Mountains in the South-East of the Gargonian Continent. The fight lasted 3 Weeks, during which both sides suffered heavy casualties. The Dwarves won barely, but to their great despair, Hammerdeep had fallen, attacked by the betrayer Goddess Tiamat. After losing their home, the refugees came to the Dranea Mountains, uniting with their army and building their new home on Ground drenched in Dragon Blood. Durin, General of the Army that invaded the Dragons, became the new High-King, leading his folk into the Mountains.
      [Famous Words to raise the morale of his people]
      If the Clans still stand, then there will be a home.
      When there is a home, there will be an Empire.
      And by my Ancestors and my Blood, if there is an Empire,
      ... there will be vengeance.
      After the War of Ancients was over, Gargonia was free of Chaos, as it had been fought back until it was on the other side of the world, on the second continent, also known as Ethralia. The Ancestor of Snakes wound himself around the world to hold the chaos on Ethralia as long as he could. He was assisted by the Storm Lord. Hammerdeep remained under the chaotic influence as it was beyond the barrier the two created. The Lord of Thunder, chained by the chaotic perversions that once were Dwarves of Hammerdeep, was chained there in an effort to corrupt him and make him one of the Generals of Fatalis. If it was a success, no one knows.
      Durin's sons and grandsons acted like their Ancestor promised and built an empire in the Mountains, where the Dwarves were readying themselves for the final war, Ragnarök. Through their short lifespan, humans have all but forgotten about the war of the ancients. But in the last few years, even they could feel that something is beginning to change, and the Dwarves are lusting for their age-old vengeance.
      A dwarf never forgets and never forgives.

    Hmm, small bit of headcanon idea here.
    The demon that stole negankerdak is the same one that would later be slain by Boic.
    It was foretold (this being theoretical) that a black diamond would slay the demon, so it stole negankerdak, for what other diamond could there be to slay it? It later returned and took over the dwarven kingdom for without negankerdak it assumed itt could not be slain.
    Then the events of Boic Brave unfold and the demon is slain by Boic (quote; "and treasures round the demon hung, Boic seized a diamond like the sun").
    Maybe the diamond Boic used was also a black diamond, therefore rendering the demons prophecy true; it was slain by a black diamond, just not the one it expected

    Also, since people keep asking you guys to make a song about Túrin, I thought I'd share a poem I wrote, which you are free to take inspiration from, or even just set to music if you like:
    Túrin Turambar - how tall and proud!
    Yet upon him layeth the darkest shroud
    Laid on him by Morgoth Bauglir;
    Morgoth the Tyrant; Morgoth the Cruel
    And that darkness destroyed him in the end,
    For he despaired of life, and his heart did rend
    He spake unto his sword, saying, "Wilt thou now take me?"
    And the Black Blade replied, "Yea, gladly shall I slay thee."
    So come now, my friend, and share thy pain
    With me, for indeed I fain
    Would help thee in thy walk with Christ
    For through Him we may set things right
    For though to bear thy burden is not for me,
    Nonetheless I may bear thee
    For together we may break this chain,
    And bring renown and glory to the King's name

    Very original. It's probably unintentional, but I can't help seeing a subtle warning for America in this song: In this fantastic ballad, a special sword comes to symbolize the strength and identity of a nation, and so when the sword is stolen by an evil and deceptive enemy, it crushes their national spirit. In America, firearms, or rather the right of the individual to own firearms, as guaranteed by the constitution, was always the tangible embodiment of our national spirit of individual liberty. Now, certain politicians want to get rid of that right, but if we let them steal our weapons, or right to keep the same, our national identity as the "Land of the Free" will be lost with it.
