I like how each passage explains a different type of strength, The first passage of the chieftain and his son speaks to the strength of will The second of the warrior and plunderer speaks to the strength of might The third of the women and families of the Vikings represents the strength of the families and women waiting for their husbands, brothers, fathers to return safe and be with them again The fourth of the priests asking God to forgive the Norsemen even as they sack their monasteries as their religion states is the strength of spirit and faith
you were reaching a bit with the third one I think that each passage explains a different use/perspective of strength first passage speaks to using strength to ensure you have a place second passage speaks to using strength to hurt those weaker than you third passage shows from the perspective of those who you use your strength for fourth passage speaks of strength as demonstrated through mercy/restraint
I actually agree with the last one, it takes great strength of faith to beg your God to forgive the men who are currently killing your friends and will probabilly soon kill you.

Woaw ! Great lyrics, great melody, great song ! This is little different than before, but I love songs that tell stories so congratulations, I'm waiting for the next !!
Rarely do I post a reply, but here goes... As an Anglican (Church of England, aka Episcopalians in the US) as late as the 1927 Book of Common Prayer there was a prayer: 'God save us from the fury of the Northmen'. The people in raided coasts were terrified of Viking raids, which pillaged, burned and took slaves (thralls) as far as the Mediterranean. Britain, northern France (Normandy!) and northern Germany were particular targets due to their proximity and relative wealth. In Normandy, eastern Britain and coastal Ireland the raiders eventually turned from raiding to colonization. The British 'Danelaw' was one result; the hybrid Norman culture in France gave rise to William the Conqueror, vanquisher of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom across the Channel in Britain. This song recalls (presumably intentionally) the brutal raid on the island monastery of Lindisfarne, off the coast of Northumberland. But the Norsemen were more than raiders and conquerors. They were also traders who plied east and down the Volga river in Russia (The 'Rus') and set foot in Vinland (possibly Canadian Labrador) in the west. Their sons became the Varangian Guard of the Byzantine Emperors. They were an amazing people. But no, even they could not storm heaven. Where Satan failed mortals could not hope to prevail. Why would they bother, unless there was plunder, thralls or trade to be had? 'The treasure of heaven is not in earthly things...'
Interesting new take. It is a bit less powerful, more story-like structure of the song, when you compare it to the other orginal songs of Clamavi de Profundis, such as "Dragonshore" or "When The Hammer Falls." Intrigued to see what's next. Edit: Thanks for the likes, it's my most liked comment now!
