  • How did you come out? Do you even plan on coming out? Is coming out something that is important to you, or do you find the concept a tad outdated? How have others reacted to your outness? What are your thoughts about being closeted? We explore the answers to such questions by reading the personal coming out experiences of LGBTQIA+ folk, and I give my thoughts as a queer (pan/aroace, genderqueer) individual on how these experiences reflect wider observed themes in the queer community.

Ahhh, my story was featured!! I'm therefore joining in with the handflapping
Edit: I also want to add how much I appreciate the stuff you create because is feels really nice to know that people exist who kind of experience the same things as me. Being non binary, being aro ace, being autistic. It's so amazing and it always gives me a bit of a serotonin boost to see one of your videos (which is desperately needed).

The thing about queer people grouping is what got me to start questioning my sexuality. I was 14, in a quite big friend group where everyone had gradually come out, and wondering how could I be the only "straight" person there. So I started a long process of questioning and turns out, I am also queer! So funny thinking about it after so much time. And my actual friends are mostly queer too!

Just wanted to comment saying that I’m very happy I was able to find this little space on the internet. Just wanted to say I really appreciate this community and it’s overwhelming positivity and lack of judgment. I haven’t felt very included in aroace oriented spaces just because my experiences feel so vastly different from what is the norm. So I feel like I don’t really fit in. But here is very comfy :)
I’m still in the process of really figuring myself out, but I believe platoniromantic is a label that fits me well! And it’s cool to have a space where I feel safe expressing that so yeah :>

Hey. I've only recently realised I'm ace. Your informative videos have been very helpful. I've had many weird experiences in my life that now make sense.
For example I was at a group interview for hotel cleaner. The lady was showing us how to clean the shower. And everyone around me started snickering. I knew something had happened but didnt know what (this has happened so many times). Apparently the shower/window squeegy had a sexy name. I still don't know what was sexy about it lol.
Thank you for your time and effort.

I came out as Trans in 2017.... my mom says I didn't come out until 2019. (Which is when I was finally able to get on T shots)
She's supportive though, finally getting used to calling me son/referring to me as uncle around my nephews and nieces. My siblings and I also didn't have to come out as any sexuality because she (and my step dad) don't care at all, as long as our partners are good to us and us good to them, etc.

ME: *to husband* remember how we talked about opening our marriage on my end so I could explore sex?
    Husband: Yeah?
    ME: I don't think I want to.
    Husband: Oh?
ME: Yeah.. It's just.. everything I like is fictional soo *shrugs*
Husband: *snorts* What? You don't think you can find a nice Kraken?
ME: Those files don't always feature Krakens--Also even if I could somehow find someone with those traits, they wouldn't be a Kraken: We don't live by the sea, dear XD
    Husband: Land Kraken!
    TWO HOURS LATER.
RUclips recommended feed: Spacey Aces, 14 Asexual Spectrum Identities | Different Ways to Be Ace
    Me: Interesting *clicks and watches*
    Video: 4:33 Fictosexual
    ME: HOLY SHIT!
I'd been using the term 'bisexual' incorrectly for years! At some point I started wondering if I was Ace because the most I could ever feel towards anyone was romance, but then it didn't seem to fit because I obviously still had sexual feelings, yet even before I met my husband I would always back out last minute when it came to 'performing'. Now I know why:
I'm bi-romantic, but fictosexual! Obviously there are more things that connected the dots in my brain, but there's the simple lay out. The next day was my 30th birthday and you are directly related to both my discovery and coming out: So thank you, it was quite the present.
Honestly I was disappointed to find though that our valididy is apparently heavily debated even among the LGBT+. On one hand I can get that it seems a little strange, on the other:
Guys: My sexuality or anyone else's for that matter is NOT about you anymore than yours is about me or anyone else. I'm the one who did the work and soul searched to find where I fit. You don't get to take that away. I wouldn't dream of doing so to you.

I don’t have IG so I guess I’ll give my story here.
I’m in my early 30s, assumed I was just a cishet male and anything different about me was my autism. A few months ago certain animation RUclipsr introduced me and millions of others to the terms aro and ace. And aro was immediate bullseye for me, related 100%. After research (including your videos, thanks), I initially came out as aro allo, because I find women physically attractive. I told all my family and friends and everyone was cool with it and most of them understood (very Midwest evangelical Christian crowd, but open-minded enough).
Then I found out more about aegosexual and realized I wasn't actually attracted to the idea of myself having sex. And despite me finding certain women very attractive and having third person fantasies, when it comes to the thought of me having sex all I can think of is "meh. don't need that." So I'm aro ace since the ace is aego.
And then I felt weird because I JUST got done telling everyone I was aromantic but still heterosexual/allo. And was worried I'd come across as confused or indecisive or the whole imposter syndrome thing. So I explained it to very few people who might get it then just casually refer to myself as aro ace. My folks were at first worried that I was being aro ace as a kind of excuse for not finding relationships, but I explained it’s the opposite. Knowing more about myself and how to explain it fills me with confidence as I search for a QPR. Joined an LGBTQIA group at work, found a community, walked in a pride parade with them.

When me and my brother were really young he told me what the word asexual means and out of nowhere was like “that seems a lot like you idk why.” He knew before I did how did he know 😭 this was when I was like ten and he was twelve. I was all like “nooooo I am definitely a straight” but deep down I remember soooo vividly thinking that was just the right term for me. It’s so weird that the first experience I had with asexuality was when I was ten and didn’t revisit that until I was fourteen, and now I’m 16 and mostly out as aroace.

One of my other coming out stories. It was at a pride parade and I’d already came out to the group of my friends as trans but hadn’t told them about changing my name. Then a new person (I’m friends with them now) asked me for my name. I panicked. Then I said something like “Um….” For a whole minute. Then one of my friends said “It’s ok. We’re all friends here.” And then I said my chosen name and everyone was like “that’s so cool, dude.” And I told another three people I knew excitedly and was just so happy. Also, one of my friends once wanted to go to a queer event and their dads reaction was “Is (my deadname) gay?” And my friend said maybe while looking at the ground

Definitely relate to having had a friend group that ended up being nearly entirely queer. No one was out in high-school, but in the decade or so since one person came out as gay, another as a lesbian and I'm trans & aroace! (I think aro at least) we weren't super close, so dont talk anymore, but we were clearly on the same wavelength. 😅
I've noticed similar being autistic and not knowing it. (Gravitating to people who are autistic even if they didn't know at the time either) Those fundamental blocks of ourselves are always there and they resonate with those around us 😊
