Thirteen years ago according to the video title, and I still make them from time to time. Thank you for this, Jenny, for this and all the instructions and inspiration you’ve given me and no telling how many others. You have made your life a gift, special lady. Also, July’23, you are looking beautiful!
our guild makes these to donate to the hospices, Ronald McDonald houses and dialysis centers as well as the homeless shelters the Tucson area.
I just wanted to say this was the very first RUclips video I watched and fell in love with sewing, quilting and how Jenny began showing how to quilt and sew. Her simple and direct style and being human, making mistakes and not having to be exact and giving tips to sew quickly, teaching was and is perfect for me and has inspired me to do so much more quilting. Just wanted to say thank you Jenny and Missouri Star quilt for having the courage to start this business and to help so many people get started with sewing. I love her mantra at times, "It takes a lil bit of courage sometimes" and her wonderful laugh and smile.
THANK YOU! 13 years later this is still sooooo much fun!!
Just finished making a few BYU pillowcases for my grandkids in Rome, Italy. They are so clever, cute, and quick!!! Thank you so much !!!
I think this would be a really cute idea for wrapping kids' birthday presents. Just put the gift in a pillowcase and tie it with a ribbon!
The absolute best tutorial for this pillowcase, even 11 years later 🥰
I have made these so many times and yet I forget how to assemble them every time! So THANK YOU Jenny for always being there to show me!
I have to pull this video every time I get to the layering place… just to check.
Me, too. I wish the photographing was shot looking over your shoulder as your assembling it facing you was confusing! Love this
method! Keep it online for continual reminder of how to assemble, please!! 😊

haha was thinking the same. if this video or RUclips reviews and instructional videos ever went away, life would grind to a halt lol
As a mom of a teenage son with cancer, he enjoys getting a new pillowcase from the bin during each admission. It's fun to look through all the wonderful designs. My only suggestion would be to use fabrics that would appeal to older teenage boys. Thank you to everyone for making a hospital bed feel a little more like home.
I'm 54 years old and teaching myself to sew. Your tutortial is excellant and I've learned to make something to be proud of!! It's a start!! Thanks :)
Thanks
I am 78 and getting back to sewing and love the tutorials. So Lisa, stick with it. We can do it!
good for you! I love her tutorials, she is so fun!
I love this lady, she’s hilarious!! “I went ahead and surged the edges, because.. well, I can!” The pillowcase turned out really nice, can’t wait to make my own!!
Thank you Jenny for always being there for us. I always refer to your videos for help on all sewing projects. ❤
I found out almost at the last minute that my daughter was bringing a friend with her for Christmas day. I didn't know the girl but I thought pillow cases! In less than an hour I had a pair of cases done in starry fabric wrapped and under the tree with her name on the package. She was thrilled. This is a truly wonderful gift.

I want to thank whoever figured this out. I love making these!. I'm making one tonight and had to watch the tutorial again so I get it laid out right. I screwed one up once and will never do that again.
❤ that was so thoughtful of you!

The challenge has begun. My daughter left my home with a container full of fabrics. So many cute prints that we forgot we had. Fabrics for toddlers, teens and seniors. So many smiles are being made with these pillow cases. Feels good to help!!
I just love the pillowcase tutorial. I have already made the "Summer in the Park" quilt and a couple of others. Jenny's tutorials are so easy to follow and understand.
Oh my goodness Jenny! You came to my rescue with this easy pillow case pattern! I’m new in the quilting world and do so appreciate allllll your videos. 🥰
Our four year old daughter recently had a stay in the hospital for 3 nights and four days. On the third day she was given a pillowcase. I can't even tell you how having something cute and girly to decorate the room lifted her spirits! Thank-you to everyone who has donated pillowcases, it really does make a difference! I am watching this video because it had such a big impact on her that I hope to do the same. Thank-you for this easy to follow video. I am not an experienced sewer but your step by step instructions makes it all sound so easy! Thanks-you!
Great tutorial as you normally do, and the camera man did great - following a moving target is not easy. After all, we just thank you for these wonderful FREE tutorials and all the sharing and giving back that you do. God Bless you and the camera man!
I made one as my first project and it looks almost professional! Thanks
Thank you for donating to the woman who had her house burn down, it was so sweet and meant so much to the family.

Thank you so much for your tutorial. I'm making pillow cases for my granddaughters - one for each month - Christmas, Winter, Valentine's Day, etc. They just love them.
Excellent idea!!!
Thank you so much for this video! I bought a kit that had horrible instructions & never thought I would get my project done in time for Christmas. After my mom found your video and we both were able to see how it was done the light bulb came on! :) Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Vicki! We hope you continue to enjoy it and that we can continue to be a part of your quilting experience!
Thanks for helping others to create this amazing pillowcase project!
Jenny, you never cease to amaze me! I just love this tutorial. I'm running to the fabric store today to make some more!!! You are so inspiring. You'll never know how you've changed my life.
I've used this site many times and it's a lifesaver! Ginny's explanations are so clear and concise. She's a great instructor and I'd use her website anytime I needed some help. Thanks Ginny!!
I love this tutorial... and have watched it a number of times. I'm like Ms. Donna Hill and forget the way to assemble the tube. It's so easy to pull up this video and watch the process. Thank you Jenny Doan and team for doing this and making them available even years later. Blessings to y'all.
I have made several pillowcases over the years because of the inspiration I received from this video. My sister in law just lost her husband. She LOVES cats. That's the fabric I'm going to hunt for this time around. Thanks again!
I loved this so much, I tried it with a curtain! It gave me a beautiful finished bottom with no raw edges. I love this tutorial, and I've made so many pillowcases from it! I think nearly everyone I know has gotten one as a gift at some point. :)
Jenny your tutorials are great; just finished my first pillowcase. love it!
I've been sewing for over 50 years and I must say Jenny, your tutorials have been wonderful. I've picked up so many great hints that I've been able to put into use. Thank you. I love all of them.
Jenny, I love you tutorials! This one is no exception.
You explained the project so well. You made what could have been very confusing seem way too easy.
Thank you!
got to get busy on some for grandchildren and nursing homes ! thank you so much. The added pieces give an ordinary pillow case a real eye catcher !thank you !
Hi Jenni I did enjoyed it so much, that after finishing a full size quilt for my daughter I made this pillow case. I will share with my sister and make matching sets for gifts. I haven't tried to upload anything but I watch and have made a few of you project and enjoy the tutorials also purchased some items from the store online. thanks again it is 1:15am central time here in texas bedtime bye now
I just wanted to thank you Jenny for all of the wonderful quilt tutorials you and your daughters make for us to learn and enjoy! I learn something new everyday (and I do watch you every day!). Keep them coming Jenny! I am currently making my first Chevron quilt out of 10" squares😃🙋🏼, I have been quilting since I was 26 and am now 48; you give me courage to constantly try something new! Thanks again!
I agree Debbie Dempsky I also like the wider cuff. We are all so lucky to have you Jenny to
teach us all these great tutorials. I just think you are wonderful.

this is the best sewing video i've seen. i'm not sure why others are unable to make sewing videos this clear and understandable. thank you so much!! please make more!
I have watched the video three times for the tube pillowcase. I can't wait to make them for my grandkids.
That just blew my mind. LOVE this. This video is the gift that keeps giving - posted 7 years ago but still benefiting others. Fantastic! Thanks for the tutorials!
Very easy and simple pillowcase to make. I ruffled my band (which I cut wider) to add something different, so I had two pillowcases with a straight band and two with ruffle bands! I even appliqued on other pillows, still using this technique. brilliant! I also did french seams, no zigzagging!!!
I have also made a pillowcase for a body pillow using this method!
Thank you SO much for this tutorial. The instructions I got from Joanns were SO confusing! This video was able to help me successfully make a pillowcase of my little brother's christmas present!
Thank you! Easy to follow and great final product. I'm definitely going to make a bunch of these!
I made a couple sets of these cases for my son a year ago. They were so easy. I has pulled out my fabric again going to make a few sets for friends
I also just started sewing after I retired. I started out making these pillowcases too. I think this is one of the easiest ways I learned to sew a pillowcase. I also like the idea of sewing down the little top band. Great idea! Thanks everyone who posted here on the little hints you shared. This helps the beginner seamstresses like me.
Love this! Just getting back into sewing now that I have the time. Thank you for such a great explained video.
Excellent idea loved the fabric, great video. Thank you
I have 18 cut out and sewing them for gifts. Love it! Thanks!
I made this pillowcase tonight and it was so much fun and so easy! Highly recommend for a beginner or someone like me just getting back into sewing after many many years. Thank you for the video !
Awesome technique. I prefer french seams. They are so nice looking and look so professional.
I just want to thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! I'm visual, and it really helps me to see what you are doing. Can't wait to do this for my grandkids!!
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. My house starts make over to fall next week and these are on my list for special touches. Since I found your tutorials I have gone from blah to wonderful. Jenny, You are are fabulous.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I needed to make a pillowcase to hold a quilt that is going to a friend fighting cancer. Your step-by-step video helped me make a perfect pillowcase for it. Bless you.
I just made my first pillowcase!! Thank you so much for your easy tutorial!
Every day comes with renewed hope and new opportunities, make sure to seize them! Have a good day?
Caution: This pillow case method can be an addiction:):) I'm on 30 cases now. Somebody stop me!! I've used up alot of my stash piles making these. I've even been asked to teach it. Jenny is the best teacher. Speaks to the beginner like me so we can understand. No advance sewing lingo. I always stop at her shop on the way to Kansas City. This is a quick project to give as a gift or bring to children's hospital, retirement home, or homeless shelters. Brighten someones day. Spread kindness with a pillow case.
I love the ones you'd shared on FB, Gloria!
I would also like to add that handmade gifts through charity are a wonderful idea. When in hospital my children have received handmade (knitted) dolls which have warmed my soul during challenging times. I have also seen young (unpartnered) Mums comforted my the gifts of blankets for their newborns, during what can be a lonely time. The thought that someone cared enough to make it is truely a blessing.
I've made so many of these! I also started making them in flannel! thanks for making this tutorial!
To further enclose all seams, in that last step when sewing up the side seams, I place "wrong" sides together first, then turn the pillowcase and now sew the right sides together. In this way, there will never be any raveling of fabric. I also put buttons and buttonholes on the wide border. I started doing that when I had a "satin" set which was always sliding around and usually halfway off by morning.
+Alice Crawford Love that idea! I am going to use that one! Do you add 1/2 inch to the fabric cut?
+PicBethany Usually the border is wide enough to add the buttons etc. Just remember, you will be putting the buttons on the inside of the border so that when they go into buttonhole on the other side they'll be in the right position. LOL, this is something you'll need to figure out, it's a bit hard picture without seeing it. You're a smart gal, you'll get it.
+Alice Crawford Actually, it was the size around I was concerned with fitting after the additional seam to enclose the side seams. Does it have any impact on the pillow fitting?
Bethany Soukup I use the quarter inch seam, then trim it a tad so when i do the final quarter inch seam all the raw ends are caught inside. You can add the extra, but I’ve never had a problem with it.
If a person Serges the ends there should not be any unraveling therefore, there is no need for the second sewing of the sides 😀
That was awesome. Thanks a bunch!!
thanks so much for this lovely video you made it so easy
This is a fun project that i have done several times myself but I've also used it as an opportunity to teach two young friends to sew. It's a great first project to give as a Mother's Day or Father's Day gift. I like it because they have the chance to learn, not only, how to use the machine, but also ironing, pinning and taking their time! Thanks so much for this!! ( i just noticed the comment below....for first-timers....i never prewash...the stiffness helps the little hands keep things steady.)
Great video! Thanks for posting. I just finished making one for my friends son who loves the Japanese cartoon character "Paul Frank". Start to finish it took me about 2 hours.
That's so cool!! :)
Wonderful video! At age 51, I'm teaching myself to sew/quilt and am enjoying it more than I imagined. I have learned so much from all of your tutorials. Keep 'em coming!
Love watching Jenny’s tutorials! She’s funny and she makes them look so easy!
Adding this to my must make list Thank you Missouri Star Quilt Co for sharing this tutorial. I think these will make great gifts.
I just sewed my first pillow case and love it!! Too easy!! Used black/white fancy fabric with grey/white polka dot cuff. It's for my friend's cat -- will embroider the cat's name on the cuff and really personalize it. Cat's name is "Mimi".....
I absolutely love your tutorials...You make this so easy!
Thank you so much, Barbara!!
@@MissouriQuiltCo should i wash material before construction?
Do you know, l have made zillions of these since l first saw this- But l still love to watch Jenny do this tutorial just for “comfort food for my soul!” Thank you Jenny and MSQC!
Your technique is way better than anyone else! Thanks so much for the details and measurement of each material! Real easy to follow.
i can't believe how easy that is!
thank you so much.. i love this tutorial.. God bless
Zamilla Hasan. God isn't true just $$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Just heard about this at church! Thank you.
This is a great video. Jenny's instructions are concise and she is friendly. I went through step by step pausing where I needed to. This will be my Christmas gifts this year. 💗
The pillowcase would be cut at 36" x 44" for a king sized pillow. Thanks for participating!
What would be a stand pillow measurement cut be ??
@@patricenowiszewski1473 30x40 but you have to add 1" to each side to accommodate the 1/4 inch seam allowance, so.....31x41 is what you would cut the fabric to begin. :D
You really had me there when you rolled the fabric and then sewed the edges. It came out beautiful. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm ready to sew!!!!!
I make our grandkids new pillow cases every yr for Christmas & they love them!!! Thank you for this tutorial! You are truly the best!!!
Every day comes with renewed hope and new opportunities, make sure to seize them! Have a good day?
Nice tip evening up the pieces when you trim the selvedges...these are fab done in flannel. Our guild donates these pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles.
I am just learning to quilt/sew at 62 and it's amazing! Thanks to youtube videos like this one, I'm learning the right way and loving it! Thank you!
Every day comes with renewed hope and new opportunities, make sure to seize them! Have a good day?
I enjoy your classes so much. I watch one everyday There is so much ugly and hate in this world but you make so many of us happy and you show us how to add beauty to this world. Your are in my prayers. keep adding beauty and I'll keep watching
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I just cranked out two for my kids (using Doctor Who and Harry Potter fabrics) for Christmas presents in less than an hour. Not bad for a novice sewer!
Every day comes with renewed hope and new opportunities, make sure to seize them! Have a good day?
I had a friend with 8 kids and one grandbaby who lived with her. She had a housing crisis a few years ago and ended up in a new place but had to leave a lot of stuff behind because of asbestos contamination. This was in the fall. I took her to the fabric store and got her to tell me what each kid liked and made pillow cases for all of them for Christmas. Every single one, even the grown ones, loved them. This is a great and quick way to make personalized gifts.
I made a few using this "burrito roll" method and they come out so beautiful every time. thank you for the video!
I love these pillowcases. I practiced on ones for my grandkids and now I am in the process of making 55 of them for my local Ronald McDonald House. It's a start! Thanks for your tutorials. I can't stop watching them!
Thank you for your kindness. It means so much to the children and teenager who receive one.
We love all of you and your kindness so much!

Why didn't you do a French seam?
giantpaws go. Save
@Micah Rosenstein That is just a personal choice. We generally do not pre-wash, but there are many who do!
I bought fabric from Hobby lobby once, and I’m glad I pre-washed it because it shrunk a lot.
I've always wanted to sew a pillowcase after my mother's quilting group made some and they looked so cute! Now I get the trick to hide the seams! You're store is so great it almost makes me want to move to Missouri!
I made my first one today! It came out perfectly! Thank you for clear and precise instructions and for all you do! Blessings to all in love and light! 🙏🏼💜🙏🏼💙🙏🏼💛🙏🏼💚🙏🏼🧡🙏🏼
How fun would it be to just cut fabric off the bolt as you need it?!
How to make a drawstring pack
i know right
When you cut the 27", what is the width of the fabric? I'm using old sheets to rehearse my first one 😉
It is usually about 42-43 inches.
i do not know
I just love this. I have never sewn a thing and just started a quilting class last week. I have six grandkids and I will be making these for them to match rag quilts that I want to make in order to sharpen my sewing skills for intricate quilts! One pillow case for each holiday is what I was thinking including their birthdays!
Thanks for the tutorial! I had some squares left over from my Tennessee Waltz quilt and extra yardage so I made two matching pillowcases to go with it. !!!
We are doing these for a worthy cause, like Quilts of Valor!
That's great!! :)
Im a longarmer for quilts of valor!
is this for a 20 by 26 pillow
OMG, I fell in love with this tutorial years ago, made a bunch of pillows, and now I and a big fan of MSQC tutorials, and I just realized this one was Jenny, too! You are a GREAT teacher, Jenny. Thanks!
Just wanted to thank you for this video. I try to make a pillow case for my quilts I make for my grandchildren. I track this video down from time to time to make sure I do it right Thank you!!!!
We made a variation of the pillow case. We split the trim in half, making sure the side ends are open, and used it to add a drawstring through it. We call them "sacks" and our non-profit organization, Garden of Hope Ministries, Visalia CA, makes them for a local foster agency. They are given to the agency to use for the children to put their belongings into, when they are picked up or have to move children quickly. Each child gets to keep their "sack", which can be used as a pillowcase, the drawstrings can be put over shoulders as backpack, or hung on end of bed for laundry bag. We just started several weeks ago, and have almost 50 completed. our goal is to get other groups involved and make (4H groups, other sewing groups) and want to make 500 this year. We would love to share this idea, so that others in other states, cities could take up this project and connect with foster agencies in their area.
Judith Stone
hi Judith, what is the website for your ministry? I would love to help if I can. thank you, Reneé
Our blog is out of date!! I guess we are too busy sewing. Gohquilters.blogspot.com. Thank you for your response. We are just starting a new campaign to provide 200 pillowcase tote bags this year. We are making toiletries zipper bag to include with each bag.
I have made these many times and the one thing that I do before I sew the end and the side together is to top stitch the little trim band down. If you dont, it will forever be flipping up or down and the only way to tame it is to iron everytime you wash it. EEKS!
Excellent suggestion! We do not love ironing.
I top stitch with a decorative stitch.
I just don’t do the 2 inch strip at all. Cuts into my profit. Yes it looks beautiful, but it’s not necessary.
This was so easy! Thanks. My plan is to make 3 coordinating ones and then sew them together on the long side for my grandchildren to use while watching tv, or whatever....something I saw on Pintrest. Also, I didn't have the 2 inch piece so I used a piece of satin ribbon...so cute
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. You're right, the actual making of the pillowcase was fairly easy but I was glad to have the video along with it to guide me. I made one for my daughter for her birthday.
The Barbara Bush children's wing gives out quilts to the children and my son Sullivan who has been a patients there a few times has a beautiful quilt from them.
"Oh this is a 15 minute craft..."
* me washing fabrics, drying fabrics, pinning and steaming fabrics before even cutting* this is a week craft??? Love the channel but the time is off
this helped me so much!!! i have always woundered how grandma dose it!!!
THANK YOU!
You are so very welcome, Robin! That is so great that you teach a class! That is exactly what every town needs :)
