As I watched this tutorial, which I had viewed before, I found another shortcut that I plan on using when I do my Attic Windows. When Jenny cut her first row, she then proceeded to cut each block and then put the 2 1/2" white bolder strip individually. I plan on adding the 2 1/2 " border strip across first before cutting the individual blocks. I used this trick before and was happy with the results. I can't see any new quilt or quilt pattern without looking to see where and easier way exists! So much fun!
Hi Jenny, I purchased all the supplies for this quilt over a year ago and just got started on it this week. I read all the comments about the bucks ear ,so after I made all the blocks I noticed that there's a lot of white splotchy things in the design, so I took some white paint and blocked out the ear . It now blends in with rest of the background and you don't even notice it. Love all your videos. Your my favorite instructor on RUclips. Thanks for making quilting and or piecing easier for us beginners. Happy New Year 2018
I followed your directions exactly and OMGOSH! My quilt is beautiful and so proud of it as it was my very first quilt. My panel is birds in a tree and it looks like I'm peeking outside to see them nesting. I've gotten many complements and even entered it in my local quilt show and won 2nd place! Your directions and guidance allowed me to succeed. I can't thank you enough for all you do and have done for quilters all around the world. Your videos are a very important part of our lives. You challenge us and help us to be the best we can be. Thank you Jenny and the MSQC.
I have been quilting for about 50 years, (I am 69 years young) and have watched a lot of quilting shows. It is so refreshing to NOT hear the word accuracy all the time! Also, they spend a lot of time showing us to sew a threads width or a needles width to the side of the drawn line that you will be cutting off! You have shown us it's okay to be you and not fret over it. It's very freeing to just enjoy the process and love creating something beautiful to wrap around someone and tell them, every time you wrap this around yourself I am giving you a hug!
I've been making quilts and hand quilting for over 30 years. I started longarming a couple of years ago...just a bit. I so enjoy watching your videos!!!!! You are a delight to listen to...funny, and smart...I love it! Thank you for so many wonderful tips and shortcuts to some fantastic quilts.
My aunt, mother, cousin and I made this quilt last night and had the BEST laugh! Look at the big deer's ear. Completely off his head in the next panel! We all laughed so hard when we saw it on our quilts and just wanted to share. Anybody else noticed? Love it anyway!!!! Thanks for your great videos!
I have never made an attic window quilt because of the y seams. Thank you so much for showing the easy way to make a y seam. I love how you take old patterns that were once very complicated and make them so simple.
On my bucket list is to make it out to Missouri Quilt some day. I absolutely love your work and how easy you make it all seem. I could sit here for hours watching you. One of the things we all talk about during our retreats is how you just zip that fabric through your machine and half the time you are looking up talking to the camera.....and yet it all comes out perfect :-) Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with us.
Jenny, 5 years ago I had never made a quilt in my life. I stumbled across your tutorials, and life has never been so good. I'm not an excellent quilter at 82, but I love watching your tutorials and piecing your beautiful patterns. Like the Hunter's Star for my niece, Irish Chain for my best friend, Grandmother's Fans for my daughter-in-law, Jacob's Ladder for grandson, Jacob, Stars and Chain for another friend, and a beautiful quilt of Big Stars of various sizes for my grand daughter. I had made a baby quilt of Disappearing Hour Glass for my great, great grand son and my grand daughter said she will insist on getting it back when baby grows so it will become an heirloom quilt. So I had to make a special one for her and her son. Baby quilt was my first one. God bless you, Jenny, for being so good at what you do and providing patterns that even I can do. Can't wait to do "The Attic Window." Wilma Sartain
Jenny, you might be angularly (sp?) challenged but you are a quilting genius!!!! My husband will LOVE this!!! Thanks again for posting your fantastic videos!!
I just love this panel!! I took this idea and added the bear paw blocks around it for a first border, then tree blocks as a second border! I ended with a quilt about 90 square and my son and daughter-in-law both love it! Thanks so much for an easy way to do this quilt!
i made an attic window quilt a few years back but it took me quite a long time for the proper angles on window frames i just may try again this way is soooo much easier .thank you .your the best love watching you.
Great tutorial. I adjusted for more narrow window panes, and mitered all the corners, instead of the dog-earing. Also got rid of that ‘ear’ that ended up in the wrong place. All turned out great! Thanks so much for this tutorial.
Thank you for these tutorials. I love them and have been so inspired! Seeing you labeling the rows with post its and having to pin them because they don't really stick to fabric, I wanted to pass along an idea that works great for me. I purchased a package of jumbo wonder clips and numbered each one with a sharpie, 1 thru (however many are in the package). I use them to mark rows and sets. Keeps all the pieces together and easy to move around when sewing.
This is one of my favorite tutorials. I've always loved seeing all those Attic Window Quilts and thought they were too complicated for me to make. Through this video I've found that it's not as complicated as I thought. I've made some attic window placemats and I'm just now starting a larger wall hanging attic window. Thank you Jenny!!!
I'm using the Pioneer Spirit panel for my attic window quilt. I will also add some sepia toned family photos from the 1920s, printed on fabric, to make the quilt more personal. Love the Pioneer Spirit panel, and the scenes look like something seen from a window. I chose another fabric in the Pioneer Spirit collection for my borders, and a third fabric for the backing. I hope it turns out well! I'm optimistic. Thank you Jenny for showing me how it's done!!
Just wanted to say thank for this video topic. I have made one of these and it was wonderful. It came together quickly and it was finished in no time..
This is the perfect class to teach my daughter-in-law how to speak English. I believe in teaching two subjects at a time it makes the class useful to the person learning. You speak so clearly and this is so helpful. Also Carol can relate to me and I to her. While using this as a wonderful pattern for blinds for my Granddaughter's bedroom window. Thank you
Jenny ALWAYS makes instructions easy to understand. She is great teacher & very talented lady. know that when I find her tutorials on RUclips, I will feel confident that even I can do it!!
Jenny you always make things so easy & girls are awesome. I’m a little afraid. All of you ladies have given me the 😅confidence to go by every thing I need. 🎉❤ So Thank all of you. I hate zippers I hate them with a passion, but I’m ready to try zipper install. ❤
That is the most beautiful way of showing how to do the attic windows quilt. I have struggled with this for 20 years and now, watching this, I feel I can do this. Thank you so much
I finally bought a panel but a smaller one so I am going to try this for a wall hanging size, just to try out my attic window skills. Lovely quilt! Thanks, Jenny!
Oh wow! I wish you would have made this tutorial last Christmas. I made a wall hanging sort of like this for my brother. I basically winged it. Even though it turned out beautiful and everybody LOVED it.... It was very stressful to make. I always look forward to your tutorials. Very helpful and inspiring! Thank you for making me feel like you're a dear friend right here in my sewing space helping me with my projects.
OMG ty Jenny. I have been struggling with pattern instructions were horrid! I couldn’t figure it out. But now with ur technique I can now complete my pattern!!!!! THANK U u are awesome
Thanks to this tutorial - and a recent gift of a panel along with 1/2 yard of coordinating fabric - I'm making my first-ever attic windows project. Too soon to say if it'll be a wall hanging or lap quilt but it's very easy and fun to do. If you want to save a little time, cut the window strips 2 1/2" and trim them after sewing to the panel piece. When this project is finished I'll post a pic to your Facebook page. Thanks for all the great tutorials and tips!
Finally!! I am working a quilt for a gift and made blocks of my own creation. Jenny, your tutorial just made my day! I can now add the actual dark and light "windows!" to look out of!! YES!! Your tutorials always make quilting easier for me. You are clear and simple with your directions. Your videos are perfect. I have come back to your videos time and time again! Best quilt teacher ever!! THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES!!
This is a fab quilt to make...I used a smaller panel and it worked out well..just a bit of math and it went together Jenny you make these tuts easy to follow...thank you
My wife made a number of Attic Window quilts about 20 years ago after a family reunion. She made one for each family that was there with pictures of every one that was there. But she did it the "old fashioned" way. We both really like Jenny's short cuts and will use her methods from now on.
I made this for my brother 2 Christmases ago, then one friend asked me for help and we made one for her son and then I helped another friend make one for her husband (all with this panel)! I made ONE MORE from a Santa panel so it looks like you're looking out a window watching Santa feed wildlife. (I sure wish I could attach a picture!) THANKS for making this so easy to do! The hardest part is trying to figure out the measurements so your windows are even and your subject on the panel isn't cut in an awkward place!
Jenny is the best teacher ever. I have learned so much about quilting that I never thought I would ever learn. She is clear and concise. Being a beginner, I have came a long way in a pretty short amount of time! Thank you!
It is so unfair to try to pick a favorite tutorial, but this one is it, I think! We live in FL and my dad is in his 80's and I ordered the gator panel to make a quilt for him. The tutorial is so easy to follow (thanks Jenny for having organizational blondeness), your hints really will help.
I have a Christmas themed panel that has been waiting for inspiration for two years. One of those fabrics that is too pretty to cut. Now I can hardly wait. I love your videos and instruction. Thank you, Jenny.
Jenny, you are the best! I so wish I were near your shop to take classes from you. You are a wonderful, wonderful teacher! I can now go forth and make my first attic windows quilt. Just knowing how to do the corners the way you have shown here is a life saver! I am also going to your site to get this lovely panel. Whenever I watch your videos I feel so confident that I too can do it! Thanks you a million for making videos for all of us to learn from! Best wishes to you and God Bless!
Jenny I just wanted to say thank you for all your Tutorials. My first quilt was so bad. But thanks to you and your videos I'm now making my 6th quilt. They're not perfect, but they are improving. I love the way you take the time to explain everything in detail. I still have a hard time with the corners on my borders, but hopefully I'll improve. Thank you.
I bought two of these panels a while back, and I have every intention of doing one of these this winter with one of them. The other one I will do the original plan with!! Love Jenny Doan!!!
You know Jenny I have the same challenge as you and I wanna THANK YOU for helping me to be able to make this quilt!! it's going to be a LOT easier that way!
I hate math! I gave it my best shot and I cut everything wrong. I scorched my material,I cut my main deer head in the wrong place, and on and on...but I had a great time trying this quilt! I'm going to start over. I love this teacher and the lessons. I'm new to all this, but I won't give up! Thanks Jenny! I'm off to buy more fabric!
Thanks for the great instructions. I have since made a couple of them and received so many compliments. Everyone thinks they are so difficult. Little do they know.....quite easy. Thanks.
wow, you are such a good teacher, Jenny. i've seen attic window quits before and they never really appealed to me... but this one, as if seeing an outdoor scene through a window... perfect. i'm going to do this one day, or something similar. thanks for the inspiration, Jenny.
I am amazed at all the things that you do. If I would let myself I would just sit and watch your tutorials all day. When I start a new project I always, I mean always look to see what Jenny did with the same project. She has lots and lots of ideas for any project. I can not say enough good things about her. Keep up the good work making any project easier. I really, really like this one. Some day I will try it. thanks for what you do.
Hi Jenny. I'm new to quilting but your tutorials have inspired me to be a little more confident to go ahead and try a few. So far I've made a lap quilt and a quilted blanket for my dog, both turned out really well so I was well pleased with end products. Thanks Jenny. When I'm a little more confident I will try the Attic Window quilt, it's so beautiful.
An attic window quilt has been on my to do list for years but always a little intimated to begin. Once I saw your tutorial, I really got inspired and went to work. Now I see possibilities all over the place with this technique. Thank you. Your video's are wonderful, I have used many and continue to go back for more ideas.
Loved this tutorial! My sons and grandkids are all outdoors people. It's gotten to be a struggle to figure out the next quilt. This is perfect! I have a couple of panels left and I know they will love this. My granddaughter said she can never have too many. She will just decorate her house with them.😄
Really enjoyed this tutorial jenny is so natural at explaining the method I haven't got any panels and in the mist of the covid I won't be able to get any for some time I live in spain it's hard to get American prints however I have taught myself to quilt with the aid of RUclips. I have some fabric which has a 32 inch repeat so I am making it a panel it's of old fashion teddies so doing the attic window will make it look like a shop for a wall hanging I'm only half way through it so will post it when I have finish thankyou jenny for all your help and inspiration I am babs bond xx
I love this quilt. I had to purchase the deer panel and make this for my daughter and her husband for Christmas. I purchased the fabric from Missouri Quilt Co and it turned out stunning if I may say so. I so wish I could send you a photo of it. I love listening to Jenny and she makes things look so easy. Everyday when the deals come out I go see what quilt she is making from it. Please keep up the good work.
I love this, Jenny! I have had this gorgeous deer panel in my stash for two years with no idea what to do with it. Now I know and I love what you did with it. Thanks for another great tutorial!!
I've wanted to make an Attic Window Quilt for a long time, but I didn't know where to start. I have a few panels here, so I'm going to try this with them. I think you've created a monster here! Heehee!!!
+Barbara Johnson There are so many fun choices! If you go to the "Show More" under the video and then click on the link for supplies it will take you to all our panels! :)
i made a Christmas panel quilt last year after watching this video....it was so cute I had to give it as a gift !!! I bought another panel for this year but don't know if I will have time to do it...this time it is for me!!!
Us quilters have a tendency to forget about ourselves! We are always giving so I am so proud that you are making yourself a gift! Post a finished picture to our Facebook page when you get done!
This is gorgeous, the fact that it is a deer during hunting season is even more attractive. My mind can see other panels, but this is lovely. You did it again Jenny! You never cease to amaze me.
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! I'm ALWAYS so inspired to try new ideas after watching your tutorials! We are so lucky to have you teaching us from your wealth of information!
I plan on using this pattern with a cardinal panel! We have a cardinal that spies on us through the window and I always say it’s my Granma. It’ll be perfect!
I was so happy to see this video because I have several panels that I wanted to do more than just put a panel in the center of a quilt. Thanks so much!
I am currently working on this gem for my son... my step daughter is learning to make one as well... she has been working beside me on a wolf panel quilt...
I love this because it is a panel so it will look like a view from the window very easily and I like the little corner block technique to make the corner look. No Y seam, no biased corner. haven't actually made one yet but it is on my waiting list.
The one important thing that was not mentioned in this tutorial is to look you cut to see where the cuts will land. Depending on your panel, you may want to adjust your panel size or number of cuts to avoid cutting through eyes, smaller faces, or other components that should not be dissected.
This is just too awesome!!!! I have that exact panel and have been putting off just sewing on borders. I sure am glad that I procrastinated with this one. I am almost finished piecing my panel using your so very easy to follow Attic Window Quilt tutorial. Thank you so very much for this pattern and for everything you do to make our projects quick and easy. I love, love, love it. I can't wait to see it quilted.
Jenny I love this quilt idea! So I decided to try it...and I goofed. I cut 7 of the 5" pieces instead of 5 of the 7" ones. But even though it's not what it should be it will be okay! Someone told me it just looked like 3 deer instead of 2. :) This is my first try at a quilt this size so I am learning a lot. It has inspired my 17 yr old granddaughter and she is now using the same panel to make the quilt as well! I love to watch your videos and have learned so much! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with others. You are a great inspiration and if I can ever find a way to make it to Missouri I will head to visit your shops!!!
I love your videos. Hope you see this even tho' this one is a few years old. My sister gave me some beautiful panels she bought in Alaska and I am going to use this to make some wall hangings. Love it!
thank you Jenny. i can always find what I need here..... teaching a quilting class at my church and asked how to do the attic windwo.....well i knew just where to go to find instructions
Wow, I've seen this before, but this around I am supposed to make a quilt for my nephew, who is a hunter, I was just going to use a whole panel similar to this one, but not now, you make it sooooo easy and i'm saving this video to run as I make it, now I can't wait to get started on it, thank you for all of the wonderful videos you do, they have helped me so much to understand certain things, love it, keep up the great work.
Thanks Jenny. On another RUclips they showed only a bit, and wanted to subscribe to their paid classes - Wow, here you teach us for FREE, and I'm so thrilled that it is soooo easily explained. A BIG thank you for all your wonderful work. Keep up the good work. God Bless.
absolutely genius! I wish I had had this last year. I had a beautiful panel almost the same as this one. what I did was hand quilted it around each tiny piece that was in that picture. almost too me a year. it is beautiful but this would have been stunning! thanks so much for sharing. I'm going to look for another.
Jenny THANK YOU FOR THIS WINDOWS BLOCK IDEA. I am so new to quilting, and your tutorials have helped me so much. Hubby just HAD to have an Eagle in flight fabric panel. We have so many pillows, from panels, I so really did not want to make it into another pillow. Never seen this Window quilt idea before. And this is exactly what I needed to see for the Eagle panel. Thank you for ALL of your great tutorials, I have learned so much, and re-watch them just about every day. (When I am not watching one or more of them, I am sewing). THANK YOU!!!... : )
I used this tutorial to make an attic quilt last month. (Mine was not a panel but a gorgeous piece of fabric with Alaskan flowers!) As I was sewing the cut out pieces together I realized that it would be easier (& a time saver) to sew the 2 1/2” bottom border to each large strip and then cut this into blocks. Also, I did not cut the sashing into smaller pieces but instead kept it in strips (WOF) and did a modified “chain piecing” (vertical) for the blocks (sashing on top when sewing). Just a small amount of trimming required. For the horizontal sashing, I sewed the rest of the sashing strips together to make one long strip (end to end). Then I modified “chained pieced “ the sashing to the rows as required. This method worked very well. Really pleased at how nice the quilt top turned out! Waiting for a replacement walking foot (mine broke!😢) in order to finish quilting. Can’t wait to make another attic quilt!
This is my very favorite quilt tutorial because it inspired me to become a serious quilter. I fell in love with the way it looks and Jenny's instructions were so clear, I knew I could follow along and make a gorgeous quilt.
Love your beautiful work and tutorials. I made my first window attic with a different panel. I followed all your measurements and all my windows came out great except that the face of the Elk is behind the window frame. I've never quilted or sewed before until for months ago. Love my new hubby. I am learning with a friend and from watching your video's.
Jenny - thank you again for some serious inspiration. I could not wait to get the fabric and I have a baby blanket I've been trying to get done. With that in mind I took your Dresden Flower Pot Quilt and used your method on this quilt for the Attic Windows. The first row is sewn and I just could not wait to say Thank You - Thank You - and Thank You - it looks beautiful!
Absolutely love this look/design! It just so happens I have a deer and winter scene panel too! Now I know exactly what I’ll be doing with it. Thank you for this very clear tutorial
I am in awe the things you can do simply with fabric. You are my "come to" when it comes to finding patterns that are new and unusual. You have so many ideas and I have tried a number of them. Many thanks for all the great ideas.
I have bookmarked so many of your wonderful tutorials to make them easily accessible as I work on your patterns. This is definitely one of my favorites because I love the idea of creating a window and view to the outdoors for an otherwise blank wall! Thank you for your generosity in putting together these fun videos!
What a cute throw size. Would work good for my husband or nephews. Great tutorial. Even if you had a panel printed with personal pictures and use it. What a great look.
I love this quilt pattern. I have a deer panel I plan to use for a quilt for my husband. Instead of a stripped border I was thinking of using the hunter star quilt pattern bc it has the arrow when blocks are stitched together( as my husband bow hunts)to make a border around the finished quilt. Fingers crossed it looks good. :). Love your tuorials they are easy to follow and inspire me to try new patterns I'd otherwise shy away from. Keep up the great tutorials.
I'm SO glad I stumbled on this from your blog within a day of publishing the video because I know all of the materials will be gone within a week. Thanks for the great tutorial and inspiration for my husband's Christmas gift. He'll love this! And I love that it's not going to be an albatross of a project to get done.

Genius. Thank you. I’m going to use a patriotic panel
Clever idea. Thank you for sharing.

I have made this quilt three times already. Absolutely perfect for so many of those beautiful panels.
Hi
Could you tell me how wide to cut the sashing?
Thanks
This is a fab quilt to make...I used a smaller panel and it worked out well..just a bit of math and it went together
Jenny you make these tuts easy to follow...thank you
I just love listening to Jennie demonstrate a project. You are so relatable and make everything easier and fun ! Thank you !
My wife made a number of Attic Window quilts about 20 years ago after a family reunion. She made one for each family that was there with pictures of every one that was there. But she did it the "old fashioned" way. We both really like Jenny's short cuts and will use her methods from now on.
Dear jenny, where would I be without your tutorials? An absolutely great way to do attic windows....thank you thank you.
I watch your video for a long time but the more I see the more I learn how to do it Thanks Jenny
+S Johnson Roberts That's so exciting! :)
Thanks so much, I keep watching it over and over, but wish you'd leave theameasurments on for longer. I'm loving you demonstration. Pat Jenkins
We appreciate your great love and support Diane! We couldn't do it without our loyal fans!
Jenny is getting to be my favorite TV star!
I am watching this video. I had never seen this idea before. It made a beautiful quilt.
+Allene Miller You're so sweet! Thank you so much! :)
Allene Miller me too! I just found out how to just sit in bed and watch Jenny all night long until my iPad fell on to my face.

She will just decorate her house with them.😄
I never thought to batch sew a row with them attached together. I'm anglely challenged as well and this is a brilliant idea!
Love this quilt pattern. Quick and easy when following Jenny's instructions. I know our grandson is going to love it.
I really liked the look of this attic window wall hanging and the easy sew method.
I loved this!!❤. I've seen panels I thought we're so cute but never thought of doing this.❤ Thanks for sharing!!
I love this, Jenny! I have had this gorgeous deer panel in my stash for two years with no idea what to do with it. Now I know and I love what you did with it. Thanks for another great tutorial!!
I've had it in my stash too for years. Now I know what to do with it 😉
I've wanted to make an Attic Window Quilt for a long time, but I didn't know where to start. I have a few panels here, so I'm going to try this with them. I think you've created a monster here! Heehee!!!
Thanks Jenny for another fun and fabulous idea.... guess what i'll be shopping for now! PANELS:)))))))))))))) GB
+Barbara Johnson There are so many fun choices! If you go to the "Show More" under the video and then click on the link for supplies it will take you to all our panels! :)
thank you very much for doing attic windows, I kept putting this off because it looked so confusing but you explane it very well :)
i made a Christmas panel quilt last year after watching this video....it was so cute I had to give it as a gift !!!
Had to watch it again, refresher :). Best attic window out there. Made one a few yrs. back. Thanks again Jenny!
Thanks for this! Just decided to do an attic window quilt and here you are!
What a beautiful panel and attic window project. Looks great.
+Diane Arthur Yay! Procrastination for the win! ;) We hope you enjoy creating this one!! Thank you!
Diane Arthur j
Wouldn't this make a great curtain like in a cabin? I happen to have this panel! Love this! Thanks for all you do, Jenny!
Love it!
We'll look forward to seeing your panel creations soon, Pam!
thank you Jenny. i can always find what I need here.....
teaching a quilting class at my church and asked how to do the
attic windwo.....well i knew just where to go to find instructions
The picture tip saved my life! I have done two of these for grandchildren and they loved them!
Jenny what a great tutorial for larger attic window blocks. I love watching you teach you are the best !
I love how you make something that looks so complicated so very easy to do. Thank you for making Attic Windows so much easier with less waste.
+Ronda Bergeron That sounds beautiful as well! Thanks so much!
It's amazing to me how Jenny can take any quilt and make it EASY!! Love ya Jenny!!
Thanks for sharing your modifications, Sharon! Those are ALL great ways to speed up the process for this quilt, too!
+PA Bennett That's so exciting! We'd love to see a photo on facebook when you're done! :)
We appreciate your generous comment ThreeDog Quilter!
What a cute throw size. Would work good for my husband or nephews. Great tutorial. Even if you had a panel printed with personal pictures and use it. What a great look.
Have to say this is one of my favorites.....so versatile....Have already finished one and have three deer panels to do now.
Ok Miss Jenny. I'm out to my she shed to try my hand at this. I hope it comes outs as well as yours. thank you so much for making it look easy.
Another quilt I have aspirations of making because I just love it . Jenny you make it look so easy.
I'm SO glad I stumbled on this from your blog within a day of publishing the video because I know all of the materials will be gone within a week. Thanks for the great tutorial and inspiration for my husband's Christmas gift. He'll love this! And I love that it's not going to be an albatross of a project to get done.
+Power Tools with Thread What a great Christmas gift for him! :)
Thank you Jenny. I have a panel with teddy bears that I've been wanting to use for a quilt, without carving it up too much. This will help so much.
