    I've been making these - Christmas for the family this year, all fun prints (thanks for the inspiration!). I've been using the burrito method and am still not confident my measurements are accurate for a pillow but oh well, that's fixable! What I have been doing is putting the envelope closure at the top, which makes doing that cuff way easier. Thanks for the tips about getting the print right - I'll have to look but I think I've been doing it wrong - lol! I doubt anyone will care but good to know for next time!

    Thank you , I’ve done several burrito style pillow cases and the seams are bulky and can be hard to sew over , this looks like a great alternative 👍

    Hello Nikki. I love this tutorial and will be making pillowcases this year for Christmas. I have a question tho. How much fabric would you suggest for. King size pillow case with a directional print going perpendicular to selvage?

    Nikki, just wanted to ask, do you prewash all your fabrics, and if so what do you do. I’m concerned about shrinkage and raveling. Also, should the yardage for the project be cut before or after prewashing? Thank you for any help you can give me.

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  Месяц назад

      Hi! Yes I do prewash. They don’t shrink very much, so the yardage is for before prewashing 👍🏻

    Heard of magic pillow but never watched. These results turn out well and it’s not like it takes forever. If I had directional print I would just cut the folded side in half but add a total of an inch, giving me 1/2” seam (as opposed to 3/8” seam). Thanks for sharing! 👍

    How do you close the open side of the pillow case? The finished pillow case looks good, I like the contrasting piece, but I'm gonna adapt it to another design.

    • @PinCutSew

      I’m not sure what you mean 🤔. The cuff is folded in half, so there’s no raw edge at the opening.

    I'm with you I don't like the magic roll up pillow case, What I don't like is the French seam is on outside of the cuff. I like the seam on the inside of the cuff(band). The way it should be.

    • @KittenBowl1
      @KittenBowl1 Год назад

      You can easily make the seam inside the cuff actually. You just have to turn the cuff inside out as well when you are creating the French seam at the final step. I think those RUclipsrs that don’t make the French seam inside the cuff aren’t usually a seamstress but a quilter etc. and they are just repeating someone else’s “mistakes”. 😅 Normally there isn’t supposed to be ANY seam showing in the front or anywhere even from the inside sides. I saw a video where one RUclipsr wanted to hand stitch the visible “French” seam peaking from the sides of inside…, I mean it’s done incorrectly that’s why they’re seeing the seam. But then she wanted to hand stitch the invisible seam which is showing because it was done incorrectly. Lol 😅 It’s not a big deal but she was giving instructions on how to sew French seam so I assumed she knew what she was doing lol haha. I think she was experimenting rather there! 😂Btw, “French” seam isn’t really French originally. I live in Japan and we don’t call this French seam even though we have many French influences from hundreds of years ago even before the current US came into existence. We call it “Fukuro Nui”, meaning pouch sewing in direct translation as all the seams are enclosed like a pouch. Yes even the sides! We also only do this for linen and double gauge fabrics where they fray like crazy, like baby’s clothing or sty and normally not for cushion or pillow covers…it’s because it leaves seams very bulky. Unappealing finish for the most. Most cushion covers and pillow covers are overlocked first on raw seams then put together in the a professional setting. Wherever you would see, they’re double folded, not French seamed. I think it’s only the name some people found it appealing 😂, and it’s not even French in reality lol.

      Yeah but with extremely bulky seams and without any flap! Lol I think it’s only the ease most found appealing. Then there isn’t any flap to prevent a pillow coming out. 😂
