- In this video I show you step-by-step how to make a gorgeous pillowcase with French seams that give it a high-end professional finish. This is a great beginner project that you could complete in an hour. These make great gifts, if you can part with them...I want to keep them all!
YOUR FABRIC NEEDS ARE:
(wash and press all fabrics before):
MAIN FABRIC
*Standard Pillow size: 28-29" x Width Of Fabric (WOF)
which is a standard bolt @ 44-45"/115cm wide
*King size: 36" x WOF
CUFF: 9-10" X WOF
ACCENT FLANGE: 2" x WOF
* If the pattern runs the cut length. If it runs up and down the width, you will need 45" x WOF to work the pattern into the required length and you will have wastage, so be aware of the pattern direction.
Thread to match cuff (that is the only place it shows, if you're anal like me)

thank you so much for such a nice clear tutorial. I am 95 and have not made pillowcases for years and today I am making a set for my youngest daughter who is 58 today.
I like the camera was aimed to show from the perspective of the person that was going to do the craft and not looking at you and watching it being done backward. It's really helpful to learn from that view.
Had to smile when you said you wanted one of each you made. My mother used to do a LOT of sewing as gifts and many times I remember her saying, "and one for Santa", then she put that one into her Christmas closet. My dad made her a closet with floor to near ceiling shelves and added a locked door. She started Christmas shopping for the next year, the day after Christmas, so dad made her a Christmas Closet. Thank you for bring back a wonderful memory. I'm 70 yo now and it was so nice to remember that.
NG B Makes perfect sense to me!
Great idea! I need a designated closet, I start shopping the day after Christmas 🎄, but when I needed the gifts I couldn't remember where I hid them!!!
My granny had a quilt closet w shelves. I climbed round in it as a.little kid; it was my hiding place. A shelved closet would be great to have for whatever!
❤❤
Thank You for the step by step video taping. I really appreciate it.
I've found it easier when pinning the panel, flange, and main fabric together, to work from the center fold out to the selvage edges. This way any excess fabric would be the same amount on both sides. So when trimming the excess I don't worry about trimming more or less off either sidethe side. Just a thought ❤.
You’re right, it’s a sickness. I made 12 last year for all the grandkids and plan to make more this year for other family members and myself. Love your tutorial and ease of direction. Thank you so much!
They are addictive! I sew them for an organization up here that distributes them to children in hospitals that have cancer and other life threatening illnesses. I did about 200 last year, I've already done over 200 this year, and more to come! Constantly searching for fabric donation is the hard part, the sewing is a breeze LOL
I love this. I am French seam obsessed so now I must make several. Thank you
French seams are sexy! Thanks for watching, Rowan.
Thank you for this pattern and instructions. I made these for my little great granddaughters and their two best friends for a sleep over. I made matching short bottoms and sleep masks from the same fabric as the cases. They loved them.
I love making these pillowcases. They are amazing. Thank you for the tips and techniques...
Thank you so much. I'm making my very first project for Christmas gifts. Brand new sewer here teaching myself through all of you here on RUclips because nobody has in person lessons. You all are so valuable to us newbies
Thank you so much, and welcome to the wonderful world of sewing. These make beautiful gifts.
I made two for a friend last year and love to make more for myself. Yes they are easy and actually fun to sew. 😊
Love this pattern! Thank you so much for the demo, have made 4 sets for loved ones for anniversary gifts!💜
Thank you, Liz! I watched your video and was able to make my 6 grandkids a pillowcase for Christmas, and even their mom & dad. It was such a huge hit, I’m rewatching the video to make another one for my grandson who is graduating from 8th grade, along with his twin buddies. I don’t think you’re ever too old to love these homemade pillow cases! I’m 66 and not to old to learn to sew with a helpful tutorial, thank you for making it so uncomplicated. 💞
Thank you so much, Shelley. I am thrilled they bring you such joy.
I can hardly wait to make one! Thank you for sharing such a simple process and a beautiful end project.
Thank you so much for choosing my video amongst so many ❤
I have made several of these pillowcases over the years to match quilts I make. They look great.
I have made these pillow cases and they are so fun. I was watching Paula from Knitting Pipeline and she showed hers and wow that made me sit up. It has been long while since I thought of doing these up as quick gifts !
Liz, you did a great job of explaining the process. Before I saw your tutorial, I watched another and my cuff was wrong side out when I finished. It was a DIY Pillowcase tutorial, no sound, no explanation of any kind. Found yours and love your steps to complete the project. I'll start over tomorrow. Thx again
I watched and sewed along! This video is excellent! Thank you! I love this tutorial....I’m obsessed with making adorable pillow cases for my grandchildren now 😍
I love making these, and yr right, addicting....i made them them for all my great nieces and nephews for Christmas, and for my neighbors kids for the holidays....so fun...i love how the kids flip over them, too funny
Thanks for explaining the French seams. I love making these pillow cases, but the French seams just gives it that step up of a quality item. Good job!
This is pure magic! My word! Thank you!
I have been making these for years, but NEVER knew how to do the french seam to "finish" it. Thank you so much!!
Can’t wait to get started on pillow cases made easy!!! Incredible way to make them!!!!
This how-to video is awesome. It's very detailed and easy to follow. And I love the fabric choices too. Really looking forward to trying this project!
I’ve seen these before and I absolutely love how they are made. It was so nice to see all of you again, I love your videos!
Liz, I am just rewatching this so I can make a couple for my grands who picked fabrics when they were here. I love your infectious enthusiasm. You make me smile. I aspire to your sweetness! Thanks so much. 💕
You made my day, Valerie ❤
What do you call the cutter you're using
I love your enthusiasm!
Love this, I made some for gifts about 4 years ago now I’m ready to do it again plus some to keep!
Explicit, easy to follow directions. You are an awesome instructor. Thank you. I made one with fabric I have on hand but I am going to the fabric store since you inspired creativity!
I just finished a set of 4 for my grandkids in Minnesota. Thanks for the instructions. They were very easy to follow.
Thats awesome, Debbie. Thank you for choosing my vid.❤
Whoever thought that up is a genius...i love making them, ive used many different fabric s, ie flannel, batiks..i love them...ps yr tutorial is awesome, and i love yr sense of humor..hilarious
I usually hate sewing but when I made these pillow cases I fell in love. I will never buy store bought pillows again. 😍👍🏻 Vickie G
What an excellent tutorial! Thank you! I appreciated the absence of background music:)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have a collection of fabrics I had bought to make pillow cases for my grandkids. No excuses now!
I like watching you sew it, much more fun than a paper pattern 👍🏻🌷And I like the dulcimer music😄
excellent tutorial! Now I know what everyone is getting for Christmas!
Thanks for the great tutorial. Very clear and easy to follow. I just made three flannel ones for my granddaughter.
Thank you SO much! I just made 2 Christmas pillowcases for my grandsons and I love them. Great directions.
This was really a delightful video. I have probably made 100’s of these with this method and I still love picking the endless array of fabrics!
I'm fixing to make my husband a pillow case like this. His favorite one just ripped because it's so old. I'm super excited to get started. This pillow case is beautiful and suits what I'm looking for because I didn't want a plain Jane standard pillow case. Thanks Liz!
Awesome. You're speaking the truth that everyone you make you don't want to give it away. I like the background at your back, the live plants and windows.
Just starting my sewing adventure! Have never sewn anything before. I've got the machine, thread, pins, material and now I have a PLAN!! Thank you Liz for a very concise explanation of how to do this. I am very excited and you will be with me on my ipad as I make my beautiful pillowcases. Thank you.
That's exciting. Practice sewing seams on scrap first. Don't forget to back stitch a few stitches at the beginning and end of your seams. Have fun.
This is a wonderfully clear tutorial. Liz's advice to practice 1/4 seams is great advice. I practiced on plain white paper when I started to quilt 45 years ago. Made this pillowcase and was very happy with results. Good luck with yours😊
I love this tutorial. My mother was a wonderful seamstress and she loved French seams. I am going to make these pillowcases for her grandchildren in memory of my mom. ❤
That is a very sweet gesture, Anissa. Thank you for watching.
I love the way you explained everything. So easy. Thanks! Can't wait to try!
Thank you so much Liz for the video with talking instructions instead of music. Just sticks so much better than with music for me.
This was the greatest video i have whatched. I always wondered how they got the seam inside the pillow case. Thank you, Maxie Gunderson
This was wonderful! You made uncomplicated and now I’m ready to make Christmas gifts. Pillowcases with matching satin bonnets!!!
When I am in the car or mobilehome as passenger, I need a BIG pillow to hold my shoulders. The same thing with my electric wheelchair. But I like to have nice pillowcase like you did! And the fun to have one for Christmas, St-Valentine, Easter, etc, I will have a special pillowcase! Thanks a lot and continue to show us nice thing like that one.
Made my first today. It seems the prep takes the longest and the actual making is pretty fast once you have the swing of it. It looks better than I anticipated! Love the detailed video too
Excellent instructions! Plus, your voice is so pleasant and easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing your videos with us!
That fabric just makes me happy. Probably need to join your 12 step group.
My pillowcase turned out beautifully, thanks to your excellent instructions.
thanks for such a great video. appreciate all the measurement and step by step instructions. it was a pleasure to watch
I came back for a refresher course, thanks again love watching you :)
Beautiful , brilliant and awsome tutorial love love love it thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
I have never been able to sew anything and have it come out looking as beautiful as my pillowcases did. Your tutorial was wonderfully clear and I was able to follow everything you told us to do. Thank you so much for giving me confidence to do more. I went shopping for material and came home with so many different colors that I can't wait to do them all. I hope you have quilting tutorials because that is my dream.
Hi Laurie, thank you so much. Sewing is so gratifying and I'm very happy my tutorial helped give you the confidence to try, and succeed.
What a great tutorial! I loved it and now you have inspired me to do it. I loved your channel, I hope to see more videos. Thank you for sharing.
TY ❤
A fun video... & you would make a great story teller! I want to try these. Thanks for sharing.
I am quite animated and chatty lol. Thank you Dee for choosing my video out of the many ❤
Great tutorial!! I made a pillowcase like this one a while back but had forgotten some of the steps. So glad I stumbled upon your channel.
LOVE YOUR TUTORIAL ON THE PILLOWCASE.
this pillowcase is gorgeous!!! love it. gotta try it.
Liz you teach very clear I like the way you teache and give the side for the pillow. Thank you so much
I've always hand stitched but bought a sewing machine 2 years ago so as soon as I get up the courage to unbox and attempt to use the thing, I'm SO gonna try this. You make it look so easy that it might be the perfect newby project. :) Thank you for this video.
Please tell us, did you open your machine? Did you make this pilowcase? If you're in the DFW area, I can help
This is by far....the easiest way to make a pillow case! Great tutorial!!
Loved your instructions on how to make the pillowcase. I will be making some. Thank you.
it doesn't matter how many of these videos I watch, it just doesn't get old, ever. the first one I made i couldn't believe it would work, but it did and I'm still astounded to this day. whoever invented this is a genius
I agree! My excitement is real. I am always amazed at everything I make.
I've been making these for years, as gifts, for charity and A LOT just for moi, LOL. So glad to discover I'm not the only crazy pillowcase lady! Thanks, Liz, your videos are always fun!
Glad you like them! I really get excited over the prints.
Thank you so much for easy and concise instructions. Going to get busy now with pillowcases.
Love this! Thanks for sharing. Gonna make one for my granddaughter to be born in November! So excited!
Love, Love , Love this you did a great job explaining. Excited to try some myself.
That makes me happy, thank you ❤
you did great job explaining and teaching! Thank you so much!
That's what I like to hear, thank you ❤
I understand that you want to keep them, they are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I'm just learning to sew, so I'll have to give this a go.
You can do it! Sewing is addicting. Have fun and don't get frustrated. I say "I sew, so therefore I swear" LOL
Excellent instructions. I made a lot of them a number of years ago. I want to make some for my daughter for Christmas and I needed a refresher on the instructions. Thanks for sharing.
You did an excellent job of explaining. I really like this pillow case and plan to make some!
Thank you. I watched two before this one and you showed every step. I understand why those steps have to be done.
Thank you, Cheryl.
A n absolute delight to listen to the end of this tutorial. Very interesting and most helpful! :)
Very clearly explained. It took me longer, as I’m not a sew person, normally. But, applause to Liz for explaining so well. Thank you. I now hug my flannel pillow case. I’m not telling anyone I made it, or they’ll be asking for me to do them. Liz, like you, I just can’t part with my new case. I see many more adorning all my beds in the near future.
Thank you so much! I too don't like making things for people...especially when they don't understand the time it takes and don't want to pay for it. I usually quote a price that hopefully is too expensive and they'll decline LOL. There are a few that will pay, so I do it.
I see you had mentioned in a comment (deleted/edited) about the measurements...you can find them in the description. Thanks so much for watching ❤
I did find the measurements. Thank you for your response, and for helping build confidence to start sewing with my grandmothers old Singer from 1942. It hums along faithfully with each stitch. How I wish I could share the RUclips of this pillow case with my grandmother and mom. Now, to get my mom’s 1946 stitching away on another pillow case. And, thanks for emphasizing the little frayed threads. They do drive me nuts, too. Lol
I love that you are so excited!!!!
I just made one. I absolutely love it. Your tutorial made it so easy! Thank you
Great video and I am going to make some of those myself for sure!
Oh I love this! So simple & clean finish. Thank you for doing this video, I learned a new technique. Now off to make myself a pillowcase! : )
Awesome Tammy! Thanks for choosing my video ❤
Beautiful! I can understand the addiction. Thank you for a fun video :)
❤
We used this along with some things my mother in law taught me, this was excellent ! Thanks
Excellent tutorial. I made several of these years ago and couldn't remember the instructions. After watching yours, I'm ready to make some more. Thanks!
I can't wait to do this! Thank you for the tutorial! My little nephew is obsessed with halloween and Jack Skellington. His bday is soon and I will make him this pillow case!
Great explanation for that pillow!
This is like the easiest and well explained tutorial I'm yet to see. I am confident I can do this after seeing you do it once
This is a great video it's perfect for me who's a beginner i'll definitely use this as a guide to make my pillow case. Thank you very much...
Great tutorial and the pillowcase is beautiful!
I just made 3 with Star War fabric for 3 grandsons. I hope that I can remember this magic part to sew I couldn't visualize #1, #2 or #3 turned right side out, but, they did. Thanks for the visuals, and tutorial.
Thank you for choosing my video. ❤
Absolutely the best tutorial for these pillowcases!
Thank you so much Donna ❤️
Great instructional video! I’m definitely going to sew some of these, thanks.
TY Ruth. You won't be able to stop lol.

They're addicting. Thank you for choosing my video, Krista ❤
I've made plain pillowcases but this looks like more fun and who can't use more pillowcases. They would be great for gifting too. Thank you for the great, clear instructions.
❤️
Thank you so much! I have been looking for a french seam tutorial. You are so fun and bubbly. Love the fabric patterns. Wish they were still available. Just beautiful!
Love it. I generally use a serger, but this gives it such a nicely finished lookK
I found it was so enjoyable and worthwhile to view and listen to Liz. She has a charming way of explaining the sewing of the pillowcase. Her voice is also easy to hear. I look forward to following her instruction soon.
Thank you Mary Kay for your kind comment and for watching ❤
What kind of fabric u made pellow case mam.
You’re a good teacher. Perspective over your shoulder is just right for viewers to see what should be happening. I’m doing two cases for my guest room and this was the best video. Thanks. I’m a new subscriber!
You are a WONDERFUL instructor! Its not always easy to find someone you can follow along with, stand their voice or the way the give instructions, but you are top notch! Thank you!!
Thank you so much Amber. You made my day.
thanks so much for making this. love your enthusiasm
Liz, thanks so much for your tutorial. I love your enthusiasm for the project and your thorough, yet straight forward, method of teaching. I'm confident I can now go and make some of my own!
