If i saw it correctly it was a user error. He was accelerating. As long as he is on the accelerator with his foot the truck doesnt stop because as the driver u can always overrule the ABA by for example using your indicators and switching lanes as well as using the accelerator.
I’m pretty sure the Active brake assist doesn’t work below 20mph. It’s also different to the other systems where it detects moving objects, so it wouldn’t break for a traffic island or a parked car for example. This is probably the reason why it didn’t detect the car and the ABA didn’t kick in. Also it would have struggled to stop on that surface in time if it had kicked in. Great videos mate keep them coming
Active Brake Assist should detect any object that is stationary in front of the vehicle and it does work under 20mph (at least it does in my car anyway). if it was switched on, it should have worked.
If it didnt work for stationary objects then why did the Mercedes rep tell him to stand in front of it? it also works at speeds up to 31mph according to Mercedes

It's definitely a good insight into how much kit goes into these and actually being able to appreciate HGV's and their drivers when we see one. Good review pal.
@Neil doe Just like overconfidence in human drivers. This is why this technology is made to work together with a driver, not do the driver's job for him.
Just like you can't be confident with normal driver we all can get distracted and similar things. It's very strange in all test's with cars or truck these systems work. Maybe if he did this on road it would work or if he did same test again it should work.
Automatic braking is not meant to do the driver's job. It is meant to ASSIST the driver. When I tested the automatic breaking system on our Subaru, I used a pile of larg cardboard boxes. Drove towards them at 50 kph. It worked! The car stopped with about 4 centimeters to spare, and I hung in the safety belt! You maybe should have used a pile of boxes also for the test. Love these reviews mate 👌 very specific well done.
Hmm, it might be because noone pressed the brake pedal in the golf so the brake lights didn't come on?
How do these new mirror cameras perform in the dark Daniel? is it infared like a cctv camera at night?
All that tech and you still have to jack the cab up manually.?
Perfect demo of "mind over machine, don't be lazy!"
Fantastic as always Dan.....👌🏻😀
Braking slightly or looking at the sensors will turn off or over ride the active braking systems and I think that is what happen here
Why did you not buy DAF ?As they appear to be your start up truck..
Imagine being the guy who told you to stand in front of the truck now lol
@Ashville How much did it cost? Have you got it on a finance plan lasting several years?
You have gave me the motivation to do my cpcs A59 above 10 tonnes booked it today👍🏻shame you’re based 89 miles away other wise I would ask for a job lol 😂 keep up the great work
So my 2016 mercedes won't brake for vehicles that are already stopped because it would be continually confused by cars on the side of the road. Is that what happened here???
Great video. Howcome the cab does have a tilt motor?
😮 there’s no way it would have ever stopped on gravel. Let us know how you get on with merc 😂
The Merc Actros Mirror Cam is the most beautiful Mercedes truck ever made
Hi mate 👍 Amazing video 😁 thanks for sharing and wishing you all the best 👍💪
So happy i came across this channel sick content
Why didn't you just order a foam-modelled vehicle (rear portion of a car) to simulate this? Would've been less headache and less expensive if things went sideways.
The Breakassist doesn‘t work when you are on the throttle. Because the Drivers Input Stands over all. And so the Truck didn‘t Break.
Exactly what I thought. I'm pretty sure that's it (not like what others said - that it doesn't work on a stationary object or with lower speeds)
Can you make a "week in the life" video Daniel?
The sun glare plays havoc with all this new technology I had a new Volvo Jeep and when sun glare hits it not worth a crap
Shouldn't the golf be moving??? Not stationary ""active braking "" just a thought
How did the camera's work out in sharp curves or backing up with trailers in curves
