    I’m pretty sure the Active brake assist doesn’t work below 20mph. It’s also different to the other systems where it detects moving objects, so it wouldn’t break for a traffic island or a parked car for example. This is probably the reason why it didn’t detect the car and the ABA didn’t kick in. Also it would have struggled to stop on that surface in time if it had kicked in. Great videos mate keep them coming

    • @Bootneck-RMC
      @Bootneck-RMC 4 года назад +19

      Active Brake Assist should detect any object that is stationary in front of the vehicle and it does work under 20mph (at least it does in my car anyway). if it was switched on, it should have worked.

    • @ricardodimurro127
      @ricardodimurro127 4 года назад +30

    • @Piglife101
      @Piglife101 4 года назад +9

      Bootneck, I’ve driven an Actros for the last 4 years, the ABA Doesn’t detect stationary vehicles or road furniture, only things that are moving/slowing etc.

      @Bootneck-RMC 4 года назад +1

      @@Piglife101 Maybe they have updated them this year. I know mine is only a car, but if there is a stationary vehicle at the lights or junction ahead, then it stops. I can't say any fairer than that I'm afraid.

      @@Bootneck-RMC my 20 plate merc sometimes does and doesn't show the indicator and beep.
      I can be doing 30mph and the car in front is slowing/stopped and it'll sometimes light up the dash and other times won't. Very unreliable technology and quite disappointing.
      I've set it on 'early' just to test and even then, I've bottled it before the ABA kicks in and brakes for me.
      Funnily enough, it'll go off on cars on the other side if the road, or width restrictions almost 100% of the time..

      Automatic braking is not meant to do the driver's job. It is meant to ASSIST the driver. Considering that when this tech works, it improves safety, and when it doesn't... it is like a regular car, therefore there is no real downsides to having the tech even if it is not 100% effective in all possible scenarios.

    There is a manual override switch that could also have been pressed.

Prime example is the central motorway in Newcastle upon Tyne, southbound just before the Tyne Bridge. Actually sometimes dangerous. Also sometimes on roundabouts it slams on the brakes.

If they hadn’t of done in so in this let’s say 20 second clip, would you have known where and which icons to look at? Before they moved on to the next topic. I get your point, and it is a valid one, but the way the editors made those animations is to point out which lights activated when and made sure that none of them overlapped the next ones. This so that people not experienced with the different lights know which ones are related and so on. It's definitely not a standard method, but a good one nonetheless. That's just my opinion and I fully respect yours.

    Could the yard surface have been a contributing factor. Minimal friction created by the tyres on the loose surface.

    Top vid man keep them coming pls I’ve seen that many Anticollision systems fail Volvo Mercedes VW that I think the really damaged the reputation of the system I mean if it doesn’t work 100% why are they promoting it doesn’t matter whether that works 99.9% it has to work 100 of the time

    Hi Daniel I am a professional driver and some of the coaches I drive have this collision avoidance system and its a pain sometimes it works other times it doesn't sometimes it will pre warn you with a audible sound and light before applying the breaks even if your in full control and paying attention I can remember going through some roadworks and the system thought I was going to hit a car even though I was quite a distance away and applied the breaks quite hard which made me jump the trouble with these systems is there not infallible Im not a fan of these and can never really trust them.

    Why didn't you just order a foam-modelled vehicle (rear portion of a car) to simulate this? Would've been less headache and less expensive if things went sideways.

    The Breakassist doesn‘t work when you are on the throttle. Because the Drivers Input Stands over all. And so the Truck didn‘t Break.
