To rid the oceans of plastic, we need to not only clean up the plastic that is currently there, but also stop new plastic from entering the ocean via rivers.
In order to clean the world's 1000 most polluting rivers, we introduce to you: the Interceptor™.
--
To rid the oceans of plastic, we need to not only clean up what is already out there, but also stop new plastic from entering the ocean: we need to close the tap.
Rivers are the main source of ocean plastic pollution. They are the arteries that carry waste from land to the ocean. Our research found that 1000 rivers are responsible for roughly 80% of the pollution.
Working together with government leaders and private corporations, our goal is to tackle these 1000 most polluting rivers, all over the world, by 2025. How? By deploying Interceptors.
The Interceptor is The Ocean Cleanup’s answer for river plastic waste. It is the first scalable solution to prevent plastic from entering the world’s oceans from rivers.

I have never seen an object that is for cleaning has this dramatic like introduction to it... Well done

So awesome. Thanks for letting us be a part of it. 🙏🏼
Thanks so much for letting us use this incredible soundtrack - it perfectly fits the level of energy we wanted to get for this clip.
Top notch presentation and idea! 👍
A really great, yet at the same time simplistic modular design. That will definitely help with transport and assembly. Brilliant that it’s completely clean running. Not so sure it’s wise though to have an open top like that when it’s got large waste collectors inside. Won’t be too good of it fills up with rainwater or if animals try to dive in to collect any useful waste. I guess it’s a very simple fix or feature that can be added on. Really like the design and look forward to seeing thousands being implemented around the world.
Looks like something out of SpaceX
Wat een geweldig project!
Awesome pairing! Always love the modern sound of Animus Vox!
Trots op jullie Ocean Cleanup! Keep on cleaning!
Please also build a smaller & cheaper version for less polluted rivers
🤘 Keep going Guys !
Super!!! 🤞💛
the best garbage utility intro
Wow this looks so cool amazing!
Can it detect wildlife like crocodiles or lizards if it ever crawl into interceptor while its collect plastic in the river? Just curious.
its probably way too slipper for any animals to crawl up
I've got a question. Why there is only one "line" directing the trash to the mouth instead of two from each side? How does it get the trash from the right side of the river?
they measure the flow at the start and do tests to know where to put the interceptor
🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
How many interceptor did you build?
Luca Casagrande They built 4 interceptors for: Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and last one for Costa Rica.
@@ronkalkhoven2119 nice
Thanks for reaching out!
There are currently four Interceptors manufactured. 001 is deployed in Indonesia, 002 is deployed in Malaysia, 003 is soon to be assembled in Vietnam and 004 is waiting to be delivered and deployed in the Dominican Republic.
@@theoceancleanup thanks again
@The Ocean Cleanup Just wondering (not to be rude or anything). What are the major challenges of producing and deploying more interceptors?
What about fish and other marine life?
they do not float on the top so the interceptor cant pick them up
How much money are you selling an interceptor for and how much money will it make for me?
I hope it is easily repairable.
it seems like they have individual parts
When I see the storm and the flood of the country, So I hope this project and I want to see the technology need to do about that the problems of the rivers, and I think the company & the government of the country, They should have to do about this problem with you too, Aha! Because I don't sure of the human being! & the behaviour 😣🤦🤔
Driven by Mel Gibson
I can make a deal with the people making the interceptor!!!! I work in a manufacturing precision machined parts and would like to do so if u are interested hit me back up

This is not new. They reinvented someone elses stuff
TheCritterWindow who did they take it from?
@@maximumkane96 Search river garbage collector here on YT
@@TheCritterWindow well things dont have to be invented all the times. Alot of the times you just need to improve already existing concepts, basically doing it their way. There is nothing wrong with that.
@@walkinondamoon1 Then they should state it that way. Not hey look what we invented. Thats all.
@@TheCritterWindow well all i see is a teaser saying "look what we are going to make". I didnt hear in interviews about this at all, nor does it say in the teaser this is something completely original. Maybe you know more than I about this. Hell maybe its a colab, or some ppl came from there. I havent got a clue. Fill me in if you know smtn.
P.S. technically they did invent this system or they ll get sued if its the same as the other companies, its just based on other companies general concept. But i know what you ment.
Dude, you're not seeling the new Iphone12, you're helping to save the world, that montage adds nothing to your mission.
It's a pitch to the donators as well, so yeah, he is selling this incredible idea
