  • Through years of research into riverine plastic and its behaviours, we have sought to understand the fundamental principles of plastic transport from rivers to oceans. Subscribe to our channel: bit.ly/371k8sN
    --
To rid the oceans of plastic, we need to not only clean up what is already out there, but also stop new plastic from entering the ocean: we need to close the tap.
Rivers are the main source of ocean plastic pollution. They are the arteries that carry waste from land to the ocean. Our research found that 1000 rivers are responsible for roughly 80% of the pollution.
Working together with government leaders and private corporations, our goal is to tackle these 1000 most polluting rivers, all over the world, by 2025. How? By deploying Interceptors.
The Interceptor is The Ocean Cleanup’s answer for river plastic waste. It is the first scalable solution to prevent plastic from entering the world’s oceans from rivers.

You mean to see what that 70% of the world's Pollution ( Plastic included ) comes from only 100 Companies in the world.
This is Money, this is Capitalism- almost all 187 nations on Earth use the Capitalist Economy, which doesn't manage waste- it makes profit. The Waste Management is always dump, and leave because it's a waste of money. Don't blame yourself or others, blame the Corporations that aren't humans, that are 'spooks' of the Imgaination Polluting your world.
This isn't even a point to Argue over even Anymore- have you ever read the I.P.C.C. report on it's whole? It's a great bunch of scientific papers that's peer reviewed and really scary eye opener of who the Polluters are. These Boyan Slat Ocean people are taking their research from those papers, they're doing this *"Counting"* in the video for PR.
Life isn't a reality T.V. Show - so stop believing every RUclipsr or Blog/Magazine telling you how the world works. Do some Critical Thinking. Go on www.phys.org/ and other Scientific Sites, read some linked peer reviewed papers. Check it daily- and actually learn for yourself how the World works.

Hey guys great work, I am a Canadian living in Peru. I was astonished by how little the people of Peru care for the environment, let alone their city or back yards. There is a real need to change the culture here, get to the root of the problem. When you see people dumping a bag of garbage out of the window of a small bus called Combi, and no one even blinks (I was the only one asking the person to care for Perú). The tourist areas maybe clean, but when you look at the side of the roads just packed with garbage. So I think Education is another area that may have a big impact.

Yes education is a big deal to get less fortunate countries to know about the problems it makes when they just dump all trash in the rivers. So the whole world needs to sit down and make education free in every country in the world. Next step is to make manufacturer start to pay for the waste management system, then they will start to make better packaging.

Its probably tyres that are broken and doesnt have any air in it....but as for plastics that submerged.....thats why they are doing their best to clean the rivers to avoid aqualife in the ocean and rivers from going extinct

Just my idea, I think about the problem of plastic in the ocean or the rivers around the world. Will have to take the countries (ranking of the world) of this problem Or the government those are responsibilities and take care of this problem And make every effort too 🤔

The source of the trash is its production in the first place. We need better options when we shop.

When the time comes, there will be a reasonable waste disposal in Malaysia. That's really terrible to see how these people / politicians pollute our planet.

Governments should be outraged, especially in rich countries sending their garbage elsewhere. The 'super consumer' mindset is careless. I'm looking forward to the day that the Ocean Cleanup retires all its equipment - meaning that it simply won't be needed anymore. But I'm afraid ignorance will prevail for decades to come. In the meantime, keep inspiring us by your actions.

These images are just appalling and heartbreaking to know extent. It really does feel like a flash forward to only a few decades in the future somewhere in the west if we don’t fix the problems our species has been creating for itself over just the past couple of decades.

If we can develop more technology to recycle plastic and make it as a viable business, we can remove alot of this plastic from source. Any one know any company/organization focus on technology to recycle morden trash? ( plastic, electronic, heavy metal...)

When people struggle to survive, concern for the environment isn't as important. Empowering people to earn more quickly pays for concern for the environment.

It seems like among everything that is intercepted we also have "organic trash" (e.g. branches, leaves, etc.). Is there a possibility to separate those from the plastic in order to reuse them in some way?

The source of the trash is the manufacturer, start to let them to pay for the waste management. Then there the manufacturer start to make better packaging. And next is to get better education to all children in the world.
