What do you guys think?... Can they deploy 1,000 of these in 5 years? Watch The Ocean Cleanup unveil The Interceptor; a river-based plastic catcher from today's press conference ruclips.net/video/dkXCUXj2FcA/видео.html
Great invention. One little thing though... what happens with the plastics it collects? Are there legislations which prevent them being shipped back in to the environment? Or will they simply be shipped to a third world country where they'll be dumped in to the ecosystem as it currently happens? Removal of these pollutants is one thing, but until humans develop clean way of recycling or completely utilising such materials... the cycle will never end.
start tagging their artcile with bill & melinda gates foundation. Or better yet, use the power of Social Media, reach out to MrBeast ...they are running $20 millions fundraising to plan 20 millions trees at the moment.
@@StrzelnicaFX Super good point. Japan for example exports 70% of its plastic household waste to countries like Malaysia. And there, it flies around and ends up in the environment. I really think the industries have to start using replacements for plastics like plant based materials.
CNET if you interview him again ask him what they do with the organic waste. Woudlnt taking all of that out be and ineffective use of space (for plastic) and possibly harmful (taking that matter out of a semi closed system.
Unfortunately, now people will just think it’s ok to toss trash into the river 🤦🏼♂️
We have to stop thinking humans are smart enough (as a whole) to solve these problems.
Sadly, the only real solution is to threaten humans (who violate the planet) with heavy community service punishments.
Give this man noble prize. He is saving the world
@ci rob No they wouldn't. No matter how much money you got, you can always help. Almost anyone got a least 1 dollar, euro, pound, whatever currency to save, even way more. With that money you could buy and plant a tree. It's just what people call a priority and climate change ain't on almost no-one their list.
This guy named Boyan Slat ain't no millionaire, he received the money by opening a gofund me page.
But the world is concentrating on that greta thunberg who's just shouting on leaders and itself doing no such thing to help the planet...
He created this idea at his 16th, made his own company(most likely with help but he still did it) and is now making mass cleaning rivers possible. What have a lot of activists accomplished in the Netherlands compared to him? Little to nothing except initiating nonsensical fantasy ideas like a car free Sunday
Greta thornberg will get it before him for no reason but being the face of the green movement
CI Rob, “ if they had the money” ?
You don’t need money to do your part. Just don’t create so much of your own trash and then get a bag and some gloves and go out and clean up water ways , beaches, roadsides etc . and don’t complain that you didn’t create the trash that your picking up , just pick it up . The cost to you? Exercise .

True but these countries lack the expensive infrastructure and education for waste management so it's a lot more complicated than you'd expect.
I emigrated to South America and i can tell you that most of it is cultural and they basically do not care. The technology is there but nobody wants to use it if it is not forced upon them. For example my mother in law was complaining that there is so much garbage in the street and literally a minute later she rolls down the window of the car and throws out a plastic bag.
If i do that back in Holland i'll get a fine by that one cop in the city, here with a cop on the street every 100m they don't care. There are entries to the main river where you can't even use a motor boat because there is so much plastic it clogs the prop within a few meters. The sewer goes straight into the river so all the filth from the streets flows straight into the river the moment it rains

Balboa Baggins the argument here is, Boyan Slat as a person has done far more good for the environment than Greta, yet Greta gets more attention.
Also, just because she talks to high-ranking people doesnt mean that she actually affects their decisions
He is 26 and she is 17, Gretta has some time
@Ofodan Mligard But what people dont understand that she never asked for all this attention. She started her protests to spread awareness. And she has done exactly that. Also projects like the Interceptor are mostly based on fund-raisings which require people to care about climate change. So indirectly Greta is helping these innovations to be turned into reality aswell. I understand that you question the medias constant praise but hating on this girl just because she gets attention is not fair at all.

Invention? My god... there are several similar ‘older’ applications all over the world. It’s a device derived from existing waste water technology and River Cleaning technology. There is if you was not so cyinical

There is but people think its inhumane, just think Thanos was the good guy in the movie avengers. He saved man kind by removing some. If we made a system where people had to be responsible for the kids they had, an those kids were brought up in loving homes with intellectual people that cared for the world and all man kind those kids wouldn't make garbage let alone dump it in where they get fresh water to drink, bathe or swim in let alone eat the fish from and they wouldn't do all the other horrible things that are being done around the planet. We are at a age in existence that should be more aware about bringing in more life to the planet than it can hold carry or feed or take the abuse of their resources usage. I have kids I understand the appeal of having kids but my sons all contribute to fixing the problems not wasting or using more then needed and in keeping a natural habitat natural for all life not just people it is a full time job to raise people to be that way its not being done enough and definitely not on a global scale as needbe. I really wish people would wake up and worry less about how much money they are going to make and more about how we are going to repair the damages that have been done and how not to repeat the pattern before us. covid was a start where we go from here, that depends on the survivors.
