John was only 24 when he wrote this song, amazing. Wonderful how sensitively Bonnie balances her voice when John leads. Look up and listen to his original version of this tune, then find these two singing it together when they were young. Beautiful, thank you both, John Prine and Bonnie Raitt.
Love the way Bonnie pulls back, vocally, when John is singing. She has such a strong, clear voice that could easily overshadow his .... but the graceful and respectful person she is, kept it soft. How beautiful, both of these people. Love her, and miss him terribly.
@@zoomeresiason6926 Fascinating to see the level of ignorance others have, lacking the capacity to understand something that should be seen as an everyday gesture, kindness...
Back in 1971 I went to see and hear John Prine in a small club on Congress Ave, Austin, Texas. John did several songs before saying of someone he wants us to see, "Welcome Bonnie Raitt". The first song they sang together that evening was "Angle From Montgomery"
John was certainly a child that grew old, gracefully and gratefully. He hung around long enough to teach a generation, even two to sing songs of the soul. As loved as he was, and still is, he conveyed a spirit of loneliness so deep you've got nothing to say. But John had plenty to say and these things will be said for generations to come.
That's exactly why I love him. He captures the feeling of loneliness and loss just profoundly. I feel like Patty Griffin has continued that tradition with an eerily similar energy and feel. They know my internal landscape, both of them.

Such a sin. Brillant songwriter. I have loved John's music since the early 70's. Met him and Bonnie Raitt one summer in the 70's at the Phila Folk Festival. One of my more memorable experiences.
There's everything to love about this song and this performance. A perfect example of the best of Americana. But two things impressed me most. One was how unabashedly John sings the female gender-specific lyrics without so much as batting an eye. The other is the harmony Bonnie chooses to sing with John. So respectful and complimentary. Years of experience singing this classic gives her the ability to do so. Simply wonderful!
Oh yes- also agree so much!! RIP John, you were always a giant slice of wonderful American humor in music! Miss you SO MUCH - still love you too, Bonnie, as ever! ❤
I may be wrong, but I thought John basically gave this song to Bonnie as a gift, at any rate it doesn't matter great harmony, and Bonnie made it work with him, with respect. One of my favorites!
I have never seen Bonnie Raitt do the same arrangement twice on this song (at least on YT). I like how she went understated doing the lower harmony, which gave more prominence to John Prine's voice. The respect they have for each other is so evident, and the talent they give us is unmatched!

RIP John. Seeing you at the infamous 2005 “dust bowl” ACL Festival while Hurricane Rita threatened Texas was a great privilege. Thank you for your great talent and spirit. Angel From Montgomery is my favorite song, bar none.
Mine too. I'll miss him.
Lovely to know the beautiful kris kristofferson helped him get record deal at the beginning kris thank you Bernadette
John Prine was something special in this world.
One of the greatest songs ever written done by its greatest interpreter and the man who wrote it. Simply can't get any better than that. Sad news that John is battling for his life now. A tremendous performer and of course one of the greatest songwriters who has ever lived. He can use your prayers.
Well said. No arguments from me.
Just watched this after learning that John Prince has passed from complications associated with Covid 19. I'm moved and saddened... somehow this song is important.

Such an amazing song!! But every song he wrote was my favorite. 💔
Among my most favorite lyrics of all time: "there's flies in the kitchen, I can hear em a buzzin." I think of them every summer. RIP, dear Mr. Prine. 🙏🏻
