Camped out..swam in the lakes..ate BBQ and listened to john prine over an over..
Anything written by John Prine about Jesus will make the fundamentalists mad, but this is based on the fact that there are 18 years missing in the historical account of Jesus. John's explanation of what might have taken place is as good any. No scratch that. John's explanation establishes him as a genius. The fact that he did not highlight this work in his later years show how respectful he was to his fans and conventional thinking even though he was outside of conventional thought and way beyond most of us in what we can imagine or understand.

As if I already didn't love John enough, now he shows he can sing, pick a guitar and chew gum at the same time! And tell a story for the intro to boot.

John was awesome.
I only heard about this fella a few months ago. What a beauty
I never get sick of the opening story. So hilarious. Miss you John!
John had good story's
I like the fact that I think John was Christian but still had the simple curiosity and the imaginative sense of humor to ask the question: What about those 18 missing years?
It's the same kind of intellectual honesty he shows in "Sam Stone" when he says: "...Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose..."
We
A gentleman that i met told me that i reminded him of this song... He sent it to me and said that im living the dream... He had walked into my shop on route 66 the day before and we had a great chat... You never know who youre gonna meet 🙏🏻 BLESSED
Only John Prine can tell a story with penache, and write a song that so many can relate too. Not that it matters, I'm a born-again Christian who finds nothing irreverent in poking fun at the obvious hypocrisies in society and perceptions of what God is or might be. A priceless common sense, truth and honesty about life and a gifted songwriter and musician! A true American troubadour...23 Skidoo! There's no doubt in my mind he's in heaven entertaining Jesus, the angels and all the saints that have gone before him.
I wonder if John has asked Jesus where he was n those missin years yet ?? RIP JOHN
Learning the carpentry trade. And studying Torah. His life was pretty ordinary until He was baptized in the Spirt at age 30.
@@wisedyes there are stories that he traveled the world. He went to Persia, India, Nepal and back home through Arabia. No wonder he " spoke with authority ".
John. Irreverent, blasphemous-for-a-rhyme, good thing he probably saw the light, evolved, before his end. Looking forward to jammin’ w/JP in the kingdom someday. I hope. And, yes, drunken genius here.
@@pattykintz9838 said the sanctimonious smacked ass with plank in her eye.
I’m sure Jesus likes this song. It may be off in a few details, but accurate in concept.
This guy saved my life, straight up buds I ain't lyin' . Suicide is hard but it can be done, but after I listened to John, and at the time I truly believed that he had lived his music and that if he could survive his life then so could I, I put down the weapons of my demise. Now, I'm grown and I accept and love all the multi layers of who we all are, especially myself. If a person is jus' totally a butthole tho who refuses to give up their buttholiness, then sadly we have to part ways. At least until ya get a grip on reality donchakno ☺️
Glad to be able to respond to you. I don’t know how I lived to be 60 and not know this man. I’ve spent far too much time chasing videos on RUclips and I can’t begin to tell you how many people say the same thing you did. We are hanging on by a thread, but we aren’t alone.

We are so lucky to have had such an artist.
Such a tragic loss, what a wonderful gift he shared with us. We are blessed with his legacy, an all around cool dude 😎❤🎵
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
@@robertwilliams060ciao Robert!🙋😊😘💘🌅
I can’t remember knowing of any artist for longer than John Prine. I can remember singing Sam Stone and Please Don’t Bury Me, Souvenirs, and many more when I was no more than 5 years old. Of course I didn’t understand the lyrics at the time. That would have been around 1978. John was always such a huge part of my life. Miss you John!
He made Chicago Proud, you and and your dear friend, Steve Goodman will always be close to my heart--total respect!
That man could paint a picture with words pure genius sadly missed
@@heidiscott9226 and we were lucky he shared them with us
Born in genius!
I miss this man the planet doesn’t feel right with out him
The day John died I put on Paradise and wept. I still listen to John's music and try to play along but I can't help myself. I tear up every time. R.I.P.
My dad's been gone four years today and this crops up on my Playlist. Funny how that happens. Dad loved Mr Prine.
My wife worked with John, and they were great friends. Unfortunately, it's long before me. What a treasure that man was and is for all time.
John Prine is a national treasure.
God damn right. He will be me from cradle to grave. Sometimes this world is a hard way to go, but Mr. Prince's music makes me believe this world is better than I usually let my mind to think it is.
He was.
John Prines humour in his lyrics, lifts my spirits especially when im feeling down! R.I.P. John PRINE!
Ate a lot of peaches for the road - he'll be fine.
Teach that one in school…the truth is hard to take. Thanx for your truth John☮
❤ thank you so much MrPrine❤🎉🎉🎉
I will always listen to his music. I've heard his thru the dark times and the happy times. John Prime is one of a kind....Always will be. Thank you.
So sad John was taken from us way too early
My Greatest memories were attending his concerts w my pot smoking 70's best friends

Never heard of this musician until just before he died. Loved what he did with his music.we should always look to others for inspiration. He is a great example. Thank you Mr. Prine, RIP. 🕊🥀🙏💐🎚
How I miss this man and his music. My life is less without the songs he took with him. We have his songs and his humble genius to ease our days and “maybe bring a smile or two”.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Wherever you went after here ! May there be a awesome fishin hole that you are fishin’ & picin ‘ You are missed back here on this troubled planet.

John Prime was certainly one of a kind. God bless him; I'm pretty sure he's watchin' us all from heaven.

This is what RUclips is for. Thank god I’ve had the privilege of seeing John play live several times.
Seen him in Clearwater Florida best show ever
I love this song and lyrics , someone hates it . He was a brave one when he sang this one
Since I am a scholarly type, I researched the lyrics and the chorus of this song and found that it was all true.
Thanks for telling us the whole truth, John.

So many of us miss you John. The gift of music, that touches the heart. For many of us, got us through some hard times. God Bless you John.
John Prine is my all-time favorite!! All of my best memories and moments had John Prine playing in the background.. driving through the Adirondacks in a pickup truck and the only CD i had was John Prine with the best dog ive ever had and we got lost up there for 10 days! Camped out..swam in the lakes..ate BBQ and listened to john prine over an over..
Sounds like you had a good time! 😊❤️😊💙
Now it's "John Prine, the missing years". RIP
I never heard of John Prine until he died. He should have been a giant.
I saw him a few times. He played it two of those. It was amazing. I was a happy enchilada.
It is really possible to be simple. I suppose
When you’re brilliant, your just brilliant!
Jesus was human. Too many people forget that.
I agree. He was probably working as a carpenter and preparing.
The idea is that this man is also God. Because, and people forget that, God is a human, too. Deedledoo.
@@billsezame4132 Nope...Sorry Bill ~ hate to be the one to 'rock the boat I highly suspect that you are either mis- or ~ at the very least ~ under informed. Jesus, the Christ *IS* indeed, as you stated, "also God"....... *BOTH fully human & fully Divine* ....... God, the Father, is not!! Both, that is. J/S
@@rosefincher7631 dear Rose Fincher. Thank you for your statement but in the gospel of John it is said that the Logos was in the begining. If Jesus is fully man and God, so is the Father. (Excuse my english, I'm french), but didnt the orthodoxe church insist about the humanity of God himself?
❤️💕❤️💕 what a beautiful gift he was and still is.
Always did and always will LOVE John Prime ; surely missed but love never dies ✨️💖
covid took John. I play his music all the time. Thankyou John you are a treasure.
As if I already didn't love John enough, now he shows he can sing, pick a guitar and chew gum at the same time! And tell a story for the intro to boot.
He is chewing tobacco, GT
@@kathleenwildey9084 no, he’s chewing gum. No tobacco user “chews” it like its gum.
“Prine`s twangy locution and habit of chewing gum while he performs tends to reinforce his image as a laconic, even ragged, performer. But his deep, nicotine-stained baritone crackled with charm and urgency Saturday night.“
What a true treasure this amazing musician was May God Bless him in his adventure in heaven having that cold one with our Jesus..that was the first song that I ever heard of his.
John Prine is a gift from God! Endless talent!
Somebody who is a gift from God wouldn’t sing a song mocking Jesus.
I was lucky enough in my life to see him in '75. Love you John. 🙏 🕊 ☮ ❤RIP
What do😮 the opprotunities of your whole life have to do with 1975 all by itself?
@@AMEER-114- that was the year I saw and met him at a small venue in Memphis. He was a sweet and funny person.
John doesn't need some half a second mention from some shitty award show in Nashville.
He'll always be right here on Austin City Limits for us all to watch and cry.

Nothing but High class grass to get lyrics like this Strait up love it
John always had great delivery doing his songs and stories telling.👏😢
I'm not religious, but this song hits home. Jesus as a teen, finding his feet, and realising he'd be 'god'. An incredible song by an incredible singer/songwriter. Love this with every atom of my being.
A lot of Christians aren't religious.. But believe in our savior Jesus ✝. RIP John Prine.. His music and wit continue on forever more
I have loved John Prine for many ,many years. My husband and I went to very many concerts. Love this man forever.
When I hear his voice it evokes emotions, tears. Especially Hello In There. I simply cannot hear that song in public. So thankful I got to see him twice, during this particular time of his writing.
Do Tennessee Brando sent me here tonight! Thank you Brando! Thank you you everything!
I am old and I have listened to a lot of music over the years.
Somehow I never heard or listened to music by Jphn Prine.
I heard his last song and it really hit me. Since then I have been finding and listening to his music and story telling. He was amazing. He had a very tough life medically wise but always seemed to make it back until Covid.
Rest in Pease sir. You were one of a kind.
He used to deliver our mail in Westchester, IL in the 70s. My mom would chat with him on our porch.
Wow!
He wrote music while he was carrying mail. ❤
Poet and a piece of Americana, not sure why or what he connects with inside of me but he sure does.
John Prine --- America's greatest story teller. Thinking of all the young people who have never heard of him --- will some day be blessed to "discover" John.

My first wife bought me this LP because she knew I loved John Prine. She laughed at this song and didn't understand irony. She took 80 % of my hard earned wealth but, hell I'm an atheist and I still pray for her soul.
What about the other 20% ? Just curious.
Prine is a state of Mind
When you have a chance to see a legend don't pass it up. I live in Nashville and never saw him live something I'll deal with the rest of my life. Rip legend.

John's opening introduction reminded me so strongly of Guido Sarducci. Lyrics do as well. I was fortunate to see John at the Fox Theater with Old Crow Medicine Show in 2013. I remember seeing John in 1968, and he's been a staple in my library ever since.
John at the Fox Theater with Old Crow Medicine Show. THAT is an incredible bill.
saw him at the old Ontario Forum 3 times, once with a guitarist, and twice just him. He always had that look as if... wow all these folk came to listen to me!
Introduced my friend & coworker to John watching this episode of ACL I was amazed that he’d never heard of him before.
