My wife and I walked outside of the Akron Civic Theater one Sunday in the mid 90’s. It was mid day and no one was on the street. This guy passed us on the empty street. I said to my wife I think that’s John Prine! After a few seconds I turned and yelled JOHN! He turned and walked back towards us. After a few seconds of hello and introductions he looked at us and said. I can’t find a way to get in to the theater. We helped him find the back entrance where Arlo Guthrie had just pulled in. They were co headlining the show that night. Some things you never forget no matter how small they may seem.
I was a teacher for 42 years, 2 of my former girl students told me about John Prine after they graduated, and I retired, said I needed to listen! I did, I loved him, they knew I would. He died a week later! Thank God I still have his music!
I definitely agree but not every one knew him sooooo I'm going to give people time to catch up they can have their souvenirs.. I got acquainted with him through shooting bottles beside a certain river and Steve Goodman means you never even called me by my name

Rest in Peace, John. You were the most modest and beautiful of giants. John wrote songs that captured the genuine, broken beauty of humanity. Leonard Cohen once noted that the cracks in everything are how the lights gets in. John Prine was the light.
A hundred years from now when the tribal remnants of our civilization huddle around their campfires at night they will be singing songs by Lennon and McCartney, Bob Dylan and John Prine.

I don’t know the meaning of life but I’m pretty sure it’s in a John Prine song. 🖤 He got old, but he never got old. RIP to the only songwriter that’s inspired me and got me through as much as Bob Dylan. John Prine has been my beacon of hope through this virus, living in New York, California and just most of the last two decades. He was the one musician who felt like they were there with me through the best and worst moments of my life. No one else could singularly personify the joys and pain of life in so few words. I had to wipe tears from eyes two days ago listening to Lake Marie (the live session at West 54th obviously, the middle verse of you were wondering) Then I had to question why a song lyric, that wasn’t supposed to be sad, had me weeping dead sober in the middle of the day. Just because it was beautiful. I would be more shocked and surprised if the writing wasn’t on the wall. He recorded what has to the best last album to grace this world. All in all, I really just feel kinda lucky that we got to spend time on the same earth as this guy. All the snow has turned to water. RIP

@@johnwalton7746 I'm pushing 70. One thing Prine taught me over 40 years ago: a clown like me could pop 200 clams for a guitar and become sane. I hope John sells a million tickets at $500 a seat. ""The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." When we lost John Prine, we lost one of the Very, Very, Very, Very best Country Music Artists. R. I. P my friend. Thanks for all the wonderful music over the years.
Man, this John Prine is something else. I was born in 1968 and I'd heard of him before. I'm ashamed that I didn't come to appreciate him until he was gone. He seems like a guy that you could drink a beer with and I can't believe how awesome he is. Love ya John and may you RIP, you are one of the best.
Got back from Vietnam in 1968, discharged from Marines in 1969. Got a place in mid-town Memphis, Cooper and Madison. Musicians, artist, folks against the war-including vets, so I fit right in. Heard Prine's song, Sam Stone, so profound. I thought at least somebody gets it, John Prine. What a blessing he was to humanity.
I've listened to his music for way over thirty years tonight I was singing some of his songs and playing them on my guitar.I still love his songs as much as the first time.I heard them
They used to consider him the "new Dylan," but come on; I can't argue Dylan's genius, but they are complete opposites. Prine doesn't have a cynical bone in his body. His genius is his empathy.
That's when I discovered John Prine. He and his wife went to perform. As I recall, his hip was bothering him and he had a stool to sit on. He did feel goodness, flew back to NYC with his wife, diagnosed with COVID and passed. Started listening to him and still do!
@pretorious700 right... How is he able to instantly grab your deepest buried emotions and satisfy you at the same time. What am amazing talented musician.

Been a hardcore metal head since grade school but dang man when I hear a good honest country tune like this one I feel like music just can`t get any better. I guess you really can`t compare lyrics about apocalyptic doom with the soothing words of a bitterly broken soul sharing its wisdoms. Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons and John Prine never get old. Timeless
I was thinking the same, grew up on hard rock and metal. I can also appreciate a good song when you hear it. Just heard he has covid 19, and is in bad shape.

Congratulations, John. Although you’re a million miles away (playing for Angels, no doubt), you are still forever in each and every one of our hearts. In your own special way, you have reached right into us and touched us in a way that we didn’t even know was possible. You were ‘sangin’ ‘bout something,’ but we (the hip ones!) recognized that deep within those layers, you were really sangin’ ‘bout something else altogether. And we collectively thought- “Damn! He’s saying EXACTLY what I FEEL! How does he know???” That gift or talent or where-with-all is something that ‘can’t be boughten.’ You got it, John. And you gave it to us. And they’re STILL recognizing you for it. You must have been a great hang.

@@johnwalton7746 I'm pushing 70. One thing Prine taught me over 40 years ago: a clown like me could pop 200 clams for a guitar and become sane. I hope John sells a million tickets at $500 a seat. He is a national treasure. Been said before, and worth repeating here... ""The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
"Tree of Forgiveness: is a hell of a tribute to a hell of a career and he should be getting $1500 a ticket, imo. If you can't get enough of JP's music, learn to play a half dozen or so of his songs. Salve for the soul I tell ya. YMMV...
I hav9been a fan that long ,,,but,,my aunt ivy has. I think of her when I play his songs
At 67 years I’ve just found John Prine. I’ve wasted too many years.
💚🤍🧡 It is still hard to believe this beautiful man is no longer with us, but his music is better than a tonic. And today the lovely Nancy Grittiths has joined him in that Heavenly Choir.RIP Nancy and John.
You were both loved in every corner of Ireland🌹
Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day… Stay Safe
If I’m ever down and need a pick me up, I put JP on. And that doesn’t work, I find that clip of John dancing off stage. I laugh til I cry. Those tears cleanse my soul and puts me in a good place. ❤❤❤❤
John Prine died today, he will be missed he was a great talent.
When we lost John Prine, we lost one of the Very, Very, Very, Very best Country Music Artists. R.
The greatest genius is always found in simplicity.
Indeed Prine is a master in simple but true stories straight to our hearts. So gratefull for this !
Well said James, John Prine spoke to our Hearts 💚. We'll always have his music, RIP John. 🙏.
What a genius picker he was JUST THE BEST HUMAN BEING RIP JOHN
I just love this man, never - not once - forgets to mention Steve Goodman in any of his performances. John, you're true hero to me.
SAME HERE @
Amen, brother.
Hello in there
The duet of this song with Steve Goodman is one of the best I have ever known. I will stop every time I hear it.
I have been listening to JP for 44 years ain't stopping now.
One of the greatest American songwriters of all time. A good human being, sensitive, compassionate, and a genius in expressing human lives in song.
I Seem To Shed Tears Everytime I Hear This Heartfelt Treasure, Of Mr Prine!
My husband introduced his music to me in 1982. One song I can't find that my husband played for me. The Joy Of My life!
John Prine is the best, down to earth singer. RIP❤
I've listened to his music for way over thirty years tonight I was singing some of his songs and playing them on my guitar.I still love his songs as much as the first time.I heard them
God, I wept over my dinner listening to his music... I hate that he's gone.
Matthew Miller ❤️
Matthew Miller Me too. The other night after listening to a couple of JP songs , my eyes spontaneous flooded.
Nancy Lally ‘my eyes spontaneous flooded’...sounds like one of John’s lyrics. ❤️
Alexi Holford 🙏🏻
He'll never be gone... he just won't write quite as many new songs.
John is a national treasure. These songs never lose their power.
They used to consider him the "new Dylan," but come on; I can't argue Dylan's genius, but they are complete opposites. Prine doesn't have a cynical bone in his body. His genius is his empathy.
Although I agree Dylan is uniquely talented, I'll argue John is as well. To each there own...
New Dylan in talent, not personality. Dont be toxic
@@futuropasado I've never expressed toxicity. I grew up listening to both talents. Not sure how they can be compared.
Totally, John sung our feelings as well our minds.
Bob Dylan and John Prine were big fans of each other. We've been lucky to have so many great songwriters.
That's when I discovered John Prine. He and his wife went to perform. As I recall, his hip was bothering him and he had a stool to sit on.
He did feel goodness, flew back to NYC with his wife, diagnosed with COVID and passed.
Started listening to him and still do!
God, this guy was a giant. His songs can move me to tears, and I really don't care if the whole world knows.
John Prine was a poet who sang his poetry. Beautiful lyrics.
If I get deep into Johns' songs I get a gigantic melancholy followed by a huge rush of pure joy.
Can't say that about most any other artist.
Very few artist can evoke these kinds of feelings. John Prine truly was a great!
@pretorious700 right... How is he able to instantly grab your deepest buried emotions and satisfy you at the same time. What am amazing talented musician.
been a strong force in my life for 50 years!! met at a show in Williamsburg in 73 great conversation and the vibes never left. he always gave me a nod at shows....man I miss him...not a day goes by with out a tear shed...
Came back to this one after hearing of John's passing. God I loved his songs. Take care on the other side buddy...
I have been listening to JOHN PRINE since l was 14 yrs old. I turned 60 past Nov. and as a huge fan I really feel I have lost a family member. I loved you and still do...faithfully listen to him everyday
I never knew who John Prine was until I heard of his passing. The discovery of his incredible music in this time of unprecedented uncertainty and struggle has calmed my nerves. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite songwriters. Rest easy John.
Hopefully you listen to his albums. Genius!!
Well put. God bless him, what a gift his music is.
Welcome to the club....better late than never
Well he is truly one of the greatest of all American songwriters.
Me too.
It Is Amazing 2 see so many Folks from 1st timers to all Their lifers, This song as I was 1st learning John and his Songs, I felt it come back to me more and more the Older I got, From childhood toys, broken special things, the Loved ones & Friends I Lost, getting married having my step son's & my birth son's, Seeing Folks get Older and loss of Guitars to make house Payments, then loosing our home, loosing my wife!! All the pictures of my Wife and Family and Friends I Lost. Thanks John, Love you as a Brother, Best Friend, Mentor, From Song Writer to Life Lessons, Miss U! To Everyone Family to Fans, GOD Bless U all!✌️🎸🤠
Been a hardcore metal head since grade school but dang man when I hear a good honest country tune like this one I feel like music just can`t get any better.
Couldn't relate any more. Been a metal head my whole life and artists like this just get ya. When it comes from the soul it does the trick.
NateInTheSticks john died today 😪😪😪
@@Gatorbeaux I heard, got the guitar in my hands paying homage right now. A sad day for his family and music world. May he RIP,😭😭
Anytime I hear Prine, I am instantly transported back to age 14, playing chess on the living room floor with my Dad. ❤
RIP Mr. Prine, you left us many lovely souvenirs.
‘Broken toys and faded colors...’ Your colors will never fade Mr. Prine. R.I.P.
LOOKIN PRETTY DAM SPIFFY THERE JASON !! I CAN'T BEGIN TO FEEL YOUR PAIN IN LOSING JOHN ALL THE YEARS YOU TWO WERE TOGETHER. , IT'S GOT TO BE TEARING YOU APART EVEN MORE THAN ALL OF HIS MILLIONS OF FANS !!!!!!!
"That's for Steve Goodman."
That hurt.
John Prine is the best❤
Mr. Prine is a treasure

I listen to John every chance I get. Been lovin his music for years and years. Thanks to my son and daughter in law for inviting momma and me to go see him in person. His last concert in Chicago about 6 or 7 months before his passing. I'm 70 and my kids were brought up on his music.
Man, he is fabulous and I’m glad I found his music before he had to leave us😢❤️
Congratulations, John.
How does he know???”
That gift or talent or where-with-all is something that ‘can’t be boughten.’
You got it, John.
And you gave it to us.
And they’re STILL recognizing you for it.
You must have been a great hang.
Well said that’s all that needs to be said
@@craiger9313 soo well said ~ thank you Craiger! I love the song he wrote when his mother died ~ *the moon is down* ~ and still down cause he's gone ~ I miss him!

I go way back as a John Prime Fan Seen him live back in the 70's ☮️💟🎸

Me too! Miss him so much ❤
That song is my life
Only man who could write a song that could bring me up when I was down and with the same song bring tears when I’m up. The world lost a piece of itself. Rest In Peace friend.
THERE'S NOTHING BETTER THAN JOHN PRINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🥰
my best friend passed away 28/1/24...... i visited him the day before he left us.... and he asked me if I would have this song played on his final journey as he leaves the church..... which we did..... RIP Tom
I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure you will see each other again...
💙
My husband turned me on to John Prine in the early 1980s. John was a legend because he sang songs every blood redded American could relate to. Rest in Peace John Prine. You are truly missed 😢.
Hello dear, how is the weather over there?
So sad to lose a true part of America in the one and only John Prine. Such a peaceful soul and special man. God be with the Prine family! As he has touched all of us we will carry on his spirit and joy.
Huge fan from the beginning. Watched him being dive bomber by a bee on stage at the Philly folk festival. Simply the best ever. I still play a BUNCH of his songs!
I just read the news that John has passed. Listening to his music, and learning to play his songs on the guitar, he will always be remembered, and missed very much. Tears aren't enough to express how this feels. We love you John, you are a treasure.
I think it's all been said , I can't add anything other than thank you John, thank you

Hello in there. You have been listening to his music all along, covered by other people. He's the working man's Dylan. I love the way JP gets to the point, so simple, so elegant.
I thought that too! I only found recently, he's so cool, humble, honest, tenented, funny. A genuine treasure. I love his songs. ♥️♥️
broken hearts and dirty windows, make life difficult to see......RIP John
This guy is doing the right thing he was born for...telling stories with his guitar.
