25 years ago I used to dance to this song with my 5 year old daughter. Last year she chose this song for the Father/Daughter dance at her wedding and I was so pleased that she remembered it and proud to dance again with her to this song in front of all the wedding guests. John Prine has always been my favorite performer and I have been lucky to see him live a number of times. I saw him in Boston last year and he is better than ever. Thank you John.
Tried to get my daughter to have this, but settled for Neil Young's Here for You. We did dance to Grandpa Was A Carpenter during the reception. A genius, who speaks to ordinary folks.
You sang me through some of the worst times of my life...and will sing me through this unbelievable horrific Pandemic. RIP and give my Mum a hug...she passed on March 28th at the sweet age of 95. Give her a hug and a song. We love you so much!
John prine came into my.wotld. In my late 60s and can't help but wonder why it took so long I'm sure I'll be hereing his music when it's time for me to go
For more than two and one-half years, fate has imposed on John Prine fans a life long sentence too sad to contemplate. Yet, here we are on this unsolicited journey, each doing the best to carry on as best we can. To say that the world misses John Prine is an understatement. We need a voice such as his to help us make sense out of our malaise. I am grateful for the many gifts John left for us, so, to be fair, he is busy these days trying to teach Jesus how to play John's latest tunes. Thanks JP for leaving a treasure trove of music. You are missed, my friend, far more than you could ever imagined.
It is a big old goofy world. We lost someone who won't be recognized on TV and all over the place but that's how John would have it. He embodies everyrhing about every different reason life is so precious and simple. Miss you John
I was living in Nashville and was at this show. I had never heard his music but a friend invited me to see him and I was instantly a John Prine fan. You will live on forever through your music, but we will miss you for the rest of our lives.
In the late 1970s, at a small venue in Seattle, think it was his bruised tour, I sat with a friend and watched his show..after the show, he made the tour of tables, including mine. He was so sincere, down to earth. He chatted with us, asked us how we were doing and if we were enjoying the show..he was so real and unpretentious. His music couldn't help but put a smile on my face, or a tear in my eye..he signed my beer coaster and moved on to the next table..John Prine, truly a national treasure..forever loved..RIP John, miss you already.
Back in the late seventies I first met John when he played at Castle Creek in Austin. I was his roadie for about a month during a tour in Colorado. The man changed my life.
Just gutted to watch this and realize that John has passed. I listened to his music for over 40 years. I raised my kids on his music. We would play this song over and over again and dance in the living room. A singular talent--no one like him and no one will ever replace him. RIP John.
John's passing makes me so sad. I saw him in concert probably 30 years ago with Bonnie Raitt. Best concert ever. I just keep listening to his songs as I work from home in this quarantine. RIP John. You will be missed. Thanks for sharing your music with us all of these years. :(
A poet who moonlighted as a singer and songwriter. It's saddens me to try and come to terms with the fact that in my lifetime there will never be another like him.
God bless you, John...May your path always be smooth and may you never be thirsty. Rest in peace now and Thank You for 50 years of fun, companionship, guidance and joyous music...
I " grew up" listening to his music. I saw him preform in a high school auditorium years ago. I'll forever be positively influenced and entertained by his music and memory
I can't listen to his music, hear his voice and see him without cry cry crying omg his music touches in such a deep place ....... my daughters were raised on john prine's wisdom ok..... so now I'm gonna cry some more
I played his music in hard times. I played his music in good times. I raised my kids listening to his songs. I took them all to see him in concert in Ventura Ca. and they all became lifetime fans. Thank you from all of us. God bless you John. RIP
Mr. Prine was truly a musical legend, where his music will live on. My condolences to Mr. Prine's family - may your great memories of him sustain you through this difficult time.
I was born in the 60's. I'm sitting here ear buds in blasting that music and locked the world outside. Still here August 2024!!! Back when things made sense! Late 70s 80'S and 90's was the best!!!
not many days in the last 40 yrs that i haven't listened to a John Prine song, he made the bad days a whole lot better and the good days even better,he has no idea how he's changed my life and made me a better person
My Dad used to sing this and play his guitar. He and I bonded a lot over The Missing Years, which I kept stealing his CD. One of my favourite memories of him. RIP John Prine 😭
We will never let you die, again. Your name and words live on forever in us! Awaiting the arrival of my first born…. Literally 30 minutes from “Paradise” where your grandmother taught school. Can’t wait to teach him all about you. Thanks for your legacy.
If you take an inch . . . give 'em back a mile --- never cease the awe at his off-hand depths ❤️ Fortunately for the human species he lived in the age of recording.
Our condolences to Fiona and the boys and the entire Prine family. Thanks for everything John Prine, we need you now more than ever! RIP Mr Prine God Bless you!
Im only 3i but i been listening to him since i was just a lil boy and i absolutely love it it took me 25 years to remember who it was i just came across it tonight for the first time in 25 plus years so happy i found it
I am so thankful my older brother introduced me to his music. May he forever rest in peace! I cherish the memories of my 20's in the 80's, saw him live many times. Molson Amphitheater at Ontario Place with the revolving stage! Sat on the lawn, dancing and singing!
RIP JOHN!!! WE USED TO LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC WHILE GETTING DRUNK IN THE BARRACKS IN BLYTHEVILLE ARK. IN THE LATE 70S!!!! BEEN A HUGE FAN SINCE!!!! I HOPE ST. PETER CAN TAKE A JOKE!!!! YOU GOT YOUR FLAG DECAL BROTHER???? GOD SPEED!!!!!
I was trying to recover myself from a relationship breakdown, and went to the downtown record shop, looking for some good music, and found there the shop was playing Prine in the background. Wow, it was the sensible words he sang, about happy and heartbreak that made realize this sadness goes the world around, and John's songs that makes sense to me out of the messy things of love, gone wrong, or stood right. Thank you John Prine.
John Prine has been the sound track to my whole life and I think all six of my children would bare witness! It was playing when my babies crawled on the floor, when my dad died, when the family got together, every ride we ever took, when my children got married, and I will haunt them if it's not played at my funeral!
There’s a big old goofy guy I got paired up to work with who showed me this song. He really has changed my perspective on a lot of things and I admire him. He said he wrote “its a big old goofy world” on a piece of paper and taped it on his bedroom wall. That sticks with me
Oh my I didn't know the world lost John Prine so sorry for their loss I lost my father February 25, 2020 he was introduced me to his music he used sing all he songs my how I miss him now

Who's listening to this great music. This music is the closest thing we have to a time machine. 2024!!!!
He was a wise man from a very young age. Some of his most profound lyrics were written as young man. What an old soul he was in this world.
@marcosbryant8646ciao Marco!🙋😊😍😘💘🌅
Absolutely! He had a great sense of humor!
@marcosbryant8646He feels like your BROTHER* Every word is *perfect, every line making perfect sense. Tag, your it.🎉🎉❤
He was 25 when he wrote “Hello In There.” ♥️🤠

This world is a sad, goofy place without you. R.I.P.
I truly feel sorry for anyone who's soul isn't touched by John Prine's music.
Dave Tolliver mine sure is just started listening to him a while ago what have I been missing all these years.

You don't have to just listen to John Prine's songs, you can close your eyes and watch them. Same with Waits.

THIS IS THE ARTIST THAT MAKES MY KNEES KNOCK
Back in the late seventies I first met John when he played at Castle Creek in Austin. I was his roadie for about a month during a tour in Colorado.
The man changed my life.
Oct. 2023 Would love to hear how he changed your life. He was such a wonderful, talented man. Met him backstage in Iowa once. ♥️
You were both honored. Please share more.

Laverne Carr we had tickets, for John and Emmy Lou, June 25 😢
Yes John Prine is an American Treasure, no one and nobody can hold a candle to his authentic songwriting, his songs always hit the mark.
It's like a close family member has passed.
He was singing in my living room my whole life
Prine just had this magic of stringing the simplest of lines and rhymes and making a cohesive and sweet narrative..
He was magnificent, he will be surely missed.
John is an ambassador of mankind. His lyrics have brought sensibility to the world.
I'm jealous of whichever hurricane got this mans brain. what a damn treasure.
Somehow "a big old goofy man dancing with a big old goofy girl." fills me with joy. Precious love ❤
the real meaning is priceless.only john could do this.cant be replaced.amen.
There went a big old goofy piece of my heart. Rest in peace, Mr. Prine.
The world is a better place for John Prine having been in it.
An irreplaceable National treasure is gone and will never be replaced. There will never be another be another be another John Prine. I miss you John.
This song gives me hope whenever the sudden blows of life knocks me to the ground
I lived through what he was talking about.
A poet who moonlighted as a singer and songwriter. It's saddens me to try and come to terms with the fact that in my lifetime there will never be another like him.
Indeed, a superlative poet! 💔
how can someone write such great music for the past 45 years and get such little recognition?
Record companies don't have a niche for genious'
Heaven just got one hell of a singer.
At 60 years old I wish I had discovered Mr. Prine much much sooner. Rest in Peace.
Me too
i am 73 and just discovered it like this minute . better late then never . i love it !
Humans didn’t even deserve such a lovely artist like him
John Prine has the eyes and the smile of kindness and truth, and thru the years, that never changed

You were so pure. A true blessing to this place and loved by many. R.I.P.
God, if this one doesn't make you chuckle and shed a tear at the same time, you have no feelings, such a shame that he had to go on up to heaven. 😢🙋😭
It's nice to see a brilliant lyricast smiling to his own work🙂🙂
