LYRICS
All the snow has turned to water
Christmas days have come and gone
Broken toys and faded colors
Are all that's left to linger on
I hate graveyards and old pawn shops
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my childhood souvenirs
Memories they can't be boughten
They can't be won at carnivals for free
Well it took me years
To get those souvenirs
And I don't know how they slipped away from me
Broken hearts and dirty windows
Make life difficult to see
That's why last night and this morning
Always look the same to me
And I hate reading old love letters
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my sweetheart's souvenirs
Memories they can't be boughten
They can't be won at carnivals for free
Well it took me years
To get those souvenirs
And I don't know how they slipped away from me
“All the snow has turned to water, Christmas Day has come and gone…broken toys and faded colors are all that’s left to linger on”…..it doesn’t get much better than John Prine
If this doesn’t reach your heart you don’t have one.
Knowing Marty, the song means a lot.
The way Marty Stuart looked at John Prine as they sang together tells you how much he loved and respected John Prine. And I'm sure that ran both ways.
😂oh yes well said....
So sweet.❤
One of John’s all time best songs. Been loving him for over fifty years. Thank you Jesus for this man😢
One of about half a dozen outstanding songs.
Maywood Illinois legend.
When Marty tells John at the beginning: "You play whatever you want to." he REALLY meant it. You notice Marty stands off to the side and behind John because he knew who the real genius was in the room.
And Marty's not really a slouch, himself.
@@tomsoule1366That was Marty being humble and gracious. Both great talents.

We sure miss you, John….
First time I’ve seen these two together , LOVELY
There was a man who knew his fabulous superlatives. Got to see him in Louisville, at The Palace.
One big regret I had, was not seeing him live. I was going to see him at The Winnipeg Folk Festival, just prior to that, he passed. The music will last forever. R.I.P Mr. Prine!
I saw him in the mid 70s in a SoCal club and in 2000 in Fort Worth with Iris Dement at Bass Hall. Amazing show.
One of the best parts of living in Austin TX was that sometimes you'd be sitting there in some totally nondescript place listening to a wanna-be playing for tips and beer, and every now and then somebody with a guitar would come sit in for a few songs. Or there'd be an open mic. Saw Willy Nelson sit in once with a woman who was on her way to modest success. Saw John Prine do open mic once in a bar near UT. I'd never heard of him before, but after those few songs, I bought ALL his stuff. Never saw him live again, but that night was awesome.
Boughten...
A great singer gone way too soon R I P JOHN PRINE

Tribute song to John Prine by songwriter Dennis Callahan
Written by Prine
John Prine wrote this song, what tribute song are you referring to?
@@Terencehogben Songwriter Dennis Callahan
I don’t know where folks get their information. John had just began playing weekly at a little club in Chicago while still working as a mail carrier. He wrote this song on the way to his gig because he felt like he needed to have a new song in case some of the same people were there from the previous weeks. There’s a live video of John telling the exact story. Do some homework before spreading misinformation
@@Joe_Hunt_Music Dennis Callahan is from Chicago Illinois and loved following John Prine. He's written the only tribute song TRIBUTE SONG. All of the John Prine friends like Marty Stewart haven't even tried?
That's a pretty gal on stage with John...
John was a genius...needs credit as an acoustic guitar player too
