John Prine affected many peoples lives all over the World. He was placed on this Earth for sharing his talents and knack for making people smile. He will never be duplicated however we will all keep his songs in our Brains and replay them from time to time. RIP John!
I loved, and still love, and will always love John Prine. The best thing about his music, is knowing that it will still be discovered by generations to come. That is the definition of a classic. RIP JP.
Years back someone posted on the message board on John's website: "The last quarter of the 20th century would not have been worth living without John Prine". Thank you, John Prine.
John didn't have the best voice, he wasn't the best guitar player, he was a great storyteller, composer, and comedic entertainer. He would tell a story before and after each song. After he had most of his vocal cords cut out due to throat cancer he managed to still entertain us. RIP. John!
I had no idea that had died one evening in April as I had been in the back pasture all afternoon and well into the night digging fence posts. I remember coming in around midnight, made a cold meat loaf and a glass of cream sherry, picked up my 69 D-45 and started off at the top of my two hour setllist with John Sebastian's "Stories We Could Tell", took a bite and a sip... Buffett's "If I Could Just Get It On Paper", another bite and another sip. Ironically, Please Don't Bury Me had popped into my head, but for the life of me couldn't remember the opening line.... so I decided on "Bruised Orange" Not a dozen words into the first chorus my daughter (a huge JP fan) came downstairs and with tears in her eyes, apologized for interrupting and told me that John Prine had died. I made me a hot dog, got a glass of ginger ale (without the vodka).... and my daughter and I stayed up all night - played every one of the ninety or so that I have somehow managed to commit to memory in this swiss cheese brain of mine. And I remember thinking that I'm only one of a million folks out there who will make his music immortal....
I learned about John Prine's music whe he was hospitalized for covid. I did alittle research on his music and could not believe i had missed out on his music all those years. The humour, deep thoughts, his kindness and humility, all intertwined. What a gift he was to all of us. John, Hope you are enjoying yourself up there in heaven!!!!
Think of it this way: You're lucky because you get to discover his songs for the first time! I remember how I felt; you're gonna love it!!!! Lucky guy!
His first album came out when I was in college. I'm privileged to have been able to listen to each of his albums when they were released. He is MY Bob Dylan, MY Bruce Springsteen, a songwriter unsurpassed. As Kacey Musgraves wrote, he knows "exactly how I feel". He always did. Rest in peace, John-and thank you for your life of music.
I first discovered JP playing Sam Stone on an LP with various artists. It was not until the Great Days Anthology that I heard him again and I was addicted for life since then. I bought all his old and newer work ever since. With Leonard Cohen an Neil Young he forms my favourite male trio. Only saw him twice: in Paradiso Amsterdam and the Patronaat Haarlem. Wow i was deeply move by these performances and very sad his Antwerp performance was first postponed and later cancellend because of health issues. JP’s Please don’t bury me and Sandy Danny’s no end are on top of my burial music list.
0:56: LOL. Related story too ... At one of the 6-8 times seeing JP live, mid way thru the show, after a funny little, "song story" he started strumming the beginning to the next one when a fan started applauding loudly, as if the song was he favorite. JP stopped and asked, "How do you know which one this is? I've got a half dozen start the same way ...:" Now this may read like a snarky quip by him but of course it wasn't, just a bit of matter-of-fact self-effacing humor, we all loved about his show. The in-between songs anecdotes every bit as fun as the songs themselves.
John prine was and is one of the most important druids of our time....he wasnt scared of anything.. every time i hear him sing i feel sorry for peole that dont get it...heard johns music in ireland in the 80s..thank you for giving us all love john....pat
He was the best! I saw him in Vancouver and his band took a much needed break and he kept playing wow. His music will always live on to his fans and young people that will keep discovering his music for years to come. I will always be a fan❤❤❤😂
How can you not love this giant of a songwriter and more of a giant of a man. Thank you Johnny for the joy and provoking thought you delivered to so many.
A coworker played John's first album for me in the mid 70s. I bought it that weekend. Still have it. So glad my wife bought us tickets to John show at the Tennessee theater just a year or two before he passed..
In early 1998, Prine was diagnosed with squamous-cell cancer on the right side of his neck. He had major surgery to remove a substantial amount of diseased tissue, followed by six weeks of radiation therapy.[49] The surgery removed a piece of his neck and severed a few nerves in his tongue, while the radiation damaged some salivary glands. A year of recuperation and speech therapy were necessary before he could perform again.[50] The operation altered his vocals and added a gravelly tone to his voice.[51] In 2013, Prine underwent surgery to remove cancer in his left lung. After the surgery, a physical therapist put him through an unusual workout to build stamina; Prine was required to run up and down his house stairs, grab his guitar while still out of breath, and sing two songs.
Every time I listen to you it’s nothing but tears. My brother turned me onto you in the 70s. He was two years older than me, and he died two years after you. So when I listen to you I think of both of you.
Dylan, Lightfoot, Taylor and Prine. The creme of the crop! I watched a video some time ago of a nervous John singing to his mentor Gordon who by songs end had tears in his eyes...my Lord, to have been witness to that...wow.
I was waiting for John Prine to come to Vancouver, but he passed away before I got to see him. I was broken hearted to hear that covid took him. I sing a few of his songs.
Covid was a criminal activity, crimes against Humanity! God , will make them pay , for shorting John time here ! Although, our Lord is enjoying, live entertainment and we have recordings ! Selfish individuals, we miss you , John ! Thank you Jesus for allowing us this gift !😁 We are blessed!
It was such a sad day when John passed, but his music truly will live forever as cliche as it sounds. Johns music always seems relevant to the times and music to reflect on. RIP John
This brought tears to my eyes. I miss seeing John Prine live. I started listening to him in high school, probably around 1974. Seen him live countless times. He was the best!
People like John Prine are just gifted story tellers and musicians. I am just learning guitar and it makes me feel so much better to hear him talk about only knowing a few chords. He doesn’t claim to be a great guitar player. He has all kinds of insecurities that you can relate to. I just love him. RIP well done good and faithful servant
My first experience of John was 1978 at the bluebird in Bloomington ind I was instantly hooked for life lost track how many times I saw him but always every year he came back to the palace in Louisville to end his tours he was always great and one of the most humble performers somebody called him the mark twain of songwriters I believe they hit the nail on the head so sorry for the boys and Fiona rock on with your bad self John you were one cool dude
What I really enjoy about the songs that JP wrote is they all seem to be real life experiences of his . It's interesting to me to hear the stories of his life from him himself . He may be gone now but he will live on forever through his songs . Who's gonna fill his shoes ?
A master poets with a guitar. Saw him live at the Chicago Theater just a couple years before he past with my oldest daughter - unforgettable memory. May he Rest In Peace and enjoy his long cigarette 😊
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL!!! A GREAT TRIBUTE TO MY FAVORITE SINGER SONGWRITER THAT I HAVE LISTENED TO AND SEEN NUMEROUS TIMES FOR OVER 40 YEARS. THANK YOU!
Thank you for putting this together John was a blessing in many ways His music will keep me company and consoled for years to come so he will live on RIP john
I am glad you liked it and understand what I was trying to do. So sad John died the next day, instead of recovering like everyone. Everyone was praying for him. He had so much love and music left. Please check out my RUclips channel Cast of Characters Live. My friends Tonio K. and Tom Paxton are worth watching.
John was simply the best the best singer songwriter in this generation, I have been familiar with John since 1978 and I am in awe of what he’s accomplished since then! I was fortunate enough to see him at an intimate setting, at a vineyard outside of San Jose in 2016! I had tickets for his concert at Red Rocks in 2019 but couldn’t make it😔 He will forever go down in history as a unique part of the essence of down home music! I wish I could have grown up in that era! So much simpler 😊
As a writer who has always aspired to finding a way to string togethe rmeaninful words, I have admired and loved no writer more than John Prine. While John was still on this earth I would hear him on Pandora, RUclips, or the radio and his music brought a tear, or laugh, a smile, or a nod of understanding. Now three years after his leaving us, I still react the same way to his voice and songs, but there is also a twinge of the sadness that is just never going to leave my heart.
My favorite musician started listening and playing his music in 1974 in my Shasta. Still singing his songs and will as long as I have breath. His passing hit me like a train wreak. Now Gordon Lightfoot is up on heaven making music with John. I’ll miss them forever. RIP
LOVE ❤️ JOHN PRINE FOR MANY YRS NOWTURNED MANY PEOPLE ON TO HIM LOVE HIS SONG WRITING LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM.WILL LISTEN HIM FOR THE REST OF M Y LIFE
Came very late to John's music. After his death, in fact. Since then I've listened to nothing else but him. I'm constantly surprised. It's just brilliant song after brilliant song after brilliant song - lyrics and melody. A rare talent indeed, and he seems such a humble soul. Shame I'll never get the chance to hear him play live. That's why these videos are so appreciated. Thanks
I got to see him early in his career in '75 at the New Orleans opera house at the height of his powers, and in his last year or two at a music festival as a large breaking-up, colored meteor crossed the sky above the stage while he sang. I am so lucky.
Great entanterer for us thanks alot John for your pleasure in introducing the past so many different ways but still pumping it out so good thanks alot again
So many beautiful tributes to a beautiful man. John & Fiona also have a house in the west of Ireland and he will be greatly missed by all here. ☘️☘️🇺🇸🇮🇪♥️❤️ RIP John and Phil D 🙏🙏
The simple reason I still play guitar(not the greatest)is due to sir John Prine and being able to make a song and felt like a rock star at 23 ;61 now and still play those 3 chords more polished now l.o.l Love ya john.enjoy that vodka and ginger ale.Ill bring a torch to light that cigarette that's 9 miles long
A great way with words. Musical imagery -a guitar & voice that delivered a story like it wrote itself. Cleaver in every way. Thank you John. Vince James
In the early seventies I bought a album of songs by various artists and it had his classic song Sam Stone. That song still chokes me up when I hear it. Bonnie Raitts version of Angel from Montgomery has a similar effect. He was a incredible storyteller and songwriter.
This is so Cool.., Gulfport. Peace Ya'll. I used to eat at Arnold's Cafeteria, on 8th Ave in Nashville, and I always sat at the table where John's picture was posted above the Napkins Dispenser. I believe Thursdays was Meat Loaf Day. The food is bad ass... and John said so. on meat loaf night.
John & I talked if we each went to our beach & looked across the lake at the SAME TIME one day, would we be able to tell the other was looking at each other? Well we were kids.....Go to Town This old man, have a BALL out there you sure left us a lot of great poetry & feelings...AND laughs back here!
Brother John was six months younger than me born on different sides of Lake Michigan,. I know I happened to meet John when we wuz mebbe 9 or 10 riding somehow together on the Brookfield Zoo, he lived in nearby Maywood, me annual visit to fav Aunt in North Riverside walking distance thru a forest preserve to zoo. We were surprised birthdays were so close, rode the train around the zoo twice talkin. I'd always thought he said his name was John PRIME and of course he wasnt yet anything he'd become one day. This is SUCH a great tribute!! Thank you so much.
Left out it was a miniature open TRAIN that encircled the zoo, went into some places above the rear of big enclosurers for the animals, zebra, giraffe...the train ride is quite long, one lap takes while, stopping at several "stations" on the way around,. John & I talked about if he stood in the beach and across the lake I is a huge feature at Brookfield if you ever get to ChicagoLand.
I think that John was a great writer right up there with Dylan and Neil Young I'll listen to his music till I'm not here able to listen no more and be up there with him in the sky Jesus is real
Thank you. John was a very special soul. You might want to check out my RUclips channel CAST oF Characters Live. There is a shorter version, ending with the posthumous 2021 Grammy that I submitted as a short documentary to our film festival (didn't get in). Also musical documentaries I made for my friends Tom Paxton & Tonio K.
a world without John is a much lonelier place even though i never met him i lost a friend. The wonderful thing about him was that not matter how famous he got he was a regular guy i saw him a few times and every show seemed like he enjoyed himself and seemed like john from down the street singing in my living room i don't think he ever forgot that he was "john the mailman"
He had lived his music , that and the fact that he related to a huge number of long haired people in flyover country that were longing for music that was theirs, when everybody was listening to The Stones and Led Zeppelin we were into John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Billy Joe Shaver
I guess I was one that took 44 years to catch on, my friend told me two years ago to listen to Sam Stone since I am a Vietnam Veteran . I am so happy to have found John Prine and so sad that he left so soon, I sometimes think about how at 73 I never heard anything but Angel from Montgomery two years ago with Bonnie and James Taylor in Louisiana . RIP John
From 1972 when he first entered my life it seems as though he was there in some form for pretty well most of the events of my life thereafter. I'm 70 now and I guess I've been through the same kind of troubles that inflict just about all of us at one time or another, yet for someone I never met I still struggle every time I see or hear him. When I think of how little I spent on his music compared to what I received in return, it's hard to place where I got a better bargain.
It's a damn shame.. I got my Covid Vaccine on April 7, 2021,the 1 yr. Anniversary of Mr.Prines awful death. Just a coincidence but it only makes it hurt a little more. Dammit Johnny, I wish my shot could have been meant for you.
You're post describes me almost exactly. I first discovered John in 72 as well and he's been there with me in all my life. I did get a chance to meet him live at breakfast one morning in 2015 and told him how big a part of my life he had been. He was very humbled and appreciative. His death still hurts.
John Prine is my favorite artist in the whole world. I play his songs over and over. Thank you John! Too bad America's medical system is so corrupt. Anyone who gets out of a USA hospital alive is lucky.
Thank you Isaac. John was a very special soul. You might want to check out my RUclips channel CAST oF Characters Live. Summers End was John's heartfelt sorrow of the fentanyl and other drug scourge rampaging. Saw a video of victims of drug ODs, family and friends had them just being kids, but now are gone. John we sure miss you.
To this day, I still am broken hearted at the passing of my favorite artist. His music will live on forever.
You aren’t alone. Same here.
Don’t be sad that he is gone, be happy that he was here 💙 🎶
Thank God. I still grieve him, especially when I hear his early songs.
Perfectly said we lose track of what life's gives by focusing on it being taken away
Oh yes~ John was a true°~
Blessing 😇he inriched our life's❤....
He was the real Deal!
I can't be anything but both. It is crazy how much is presence and loss has affected me, even though I never knew him personally. When I hear some of his songs, they are personal.
ok to be both?
John sang our lives ,right from his heart❤
I love John, he was such a great songwriter and a great storyteller. Everytime I hear him I think of my dear departed wife who just loved him so much. Sweet revenge, RIP!

The simple reason I still play guitar(not the greatest)is due to sir John Prine and being able to make a song and felt like a rock star at 23 ;61 now and still play those 3 chords more polished now l.o.l Love ya john.enjoy that vodka and ginger ale.Ill bring a torch to light that cigarette that's 9 miles long
Thank you to you all who put this together. My heart is full right now.
Loved that guy, there’s never a time when I pick my guitar that I don’t play a Prine song.
I often have to stop listening mid song and simply shake my head.
He was a incredible storyteller and songwriter.
i marvel at how well his voice melds with iris dement.
Crafted with love - this really touched me. Thank you.
Beautiful tribute. Touches my heart in so many ways. Thank you John for your lovely tales.
I was driving home from work one day and heard "Dear Abby" on the radio. I have been a fan from then one. A sad loss.
I think that John was a great writer right up there with Dylan and Neil Young I'll listen to his music till I'm not here able to listen no more and be up there with him in the sky Jesus is real
Thank you, JP. Till the backside of my last breath I will carry you around.. Always.
Thank you so much! Love the memories
I’m still sad but seeing John play in Toronto not long before he died made my life better thank God I made it to that event ❤️
I always have a box of tissue and a glass of wine when Prine is on. He's usually on at my place.😢
He had lived his music , that and the fact that he related to a huge number of long haired people in flyover country that were longing for music that was theirs, when everybody was listening to The Stones and Led Zeppelin we were into John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Billy Joe Shaver
Nice job Marty, making John feel right at home.
Respect is earned. John earned a lot of it as reflected here.
RIP John
Thanks for writing Frank. John had a lot more music left in him. Covid-19 robbed us!
Join the Club Frank, but so happy to have found this American Treasure.
RIP John Prine, your Music will live forever 🙏🙏
Thank you for your service.. 🙏
I kick myself often for not appreciating this musician and person much sooner. Love his simple but beautiful stories and songs.
That was an awesome production, 🧡
There are two people in my life that has affected me that is Jewel and John Prine thank God for both of them
❤🎯🥰
I love John Prine like I love life. But the line should be, "It cost very much, and it last a short while". That's been my experience anyway.
Thankyou, a well done video of John and his music which touched so many.
Thank you for watching Bernie. Please share the video if you can.
This is simply beautiful.
Just wonderful - thank you, John, and everyone else
Absolutely wonderful in every way
John left us far too soon
Thank you Payl. The video still makes me cry.
I still miss John Prine!!!!
I know Johns days were numbered anyway…but dammit I miss him. This video collection made me smile.
John Prine is my favorite artist in the whole world. I play his songs over and over. Thank you John! Too bad America's medical system is so corrupt. Anyone who gets out of a USA hospital alive is lucky.
Yes John was a true legend
J'ai adoré Monsieur Prine si singulier avec sa voix unique et sa mélancolie et ses textes qui nous mettaient au centre du quotidien.❤😢
The ending of this made me spring a leak! I miss John Prine!
Gulfport sure isn't the same without him. He was our shining, friendly star. Just one of the guys!
LOVE HIS SONGS,I PLAY AND SING SOME OF HIS MUSIC.
Thank you.🙇♀️
GOTTA LET THESE SONGS PLAY THRU!! Suffering from sampler-itis
RIP John. Sing to my son and brother now my brother loved you too
Holy smokes, I'da never guessed Wynonna Judd could tear up the lead on Souvenirs like that.
Thank you so much! The biggest crime is how long it took to find this in my recommended

I’m still broken hearted in his passing.
That was sooo LOVELY. Thank you all ever so much❤.
Thank you for watching!
Summers End was John's heartfelt sorrow of the fentanyl and other drug
scourge rampaging.
Saw a video of victims of drug ODs, family and friends had them just being kids, but now are gone.
