@@johnwilliams7922 Sometimes it is comforting to find out that something has not happened. That's ok. I have an emotional attachment to that song. A while back I spent about 18 months living in NE China. When my wife and I returned home we had to self isolate. In China I missed playing with friends at home, so I used to regularly take my acoustic guitar and play for a few hours in an open space downstairs where we were staying. I used to enjoy playing "Angel From Montgomery" as well as other favourites. Everything is connected, this song, a lovely time with my wife, the love she gave me, how she looked after me when I had a viral infection (no not this dreaded one) a city I grew to love but had to flee because of that dreaded virus and I'm now listening to "Murder Most Foul" by Dylan................ I'm convinced Dylan released it to soothe us in these trying times.

This song will forever be a testament to the song writing talent of Mr John Prine. John could become a veteran with PTSD, an old man looking back on life with his forever wife, a young boy who witnessed the tragedy of the loss of one of his peers and express the grief he carried with him into his old age.
With this song he entered the mind of woman looking at life lived and the hardship and pain of doing so. Unlike these two women who do have the voice of angels, John didn't have the voice of a great singer, BUT his songs carried him to the top of the heap. Even after his operation, it didn't matter that his voice was ruined, his fans stood by him to the end.

first hearing Ruthie Foster wow life has blessed us again with such talent! This an enormous favorite song by Bonnie for me. This is one of those songs that gives me chills and brings an old man to tears! Reminds me of my Grandfather who would come in from the fields of his farm and sit in his chair by the window looking out at his world for hours without talking just deep in his thoughts! The line about how can a person have nothing to say. He was a WW1 veteran and as I matured and learned of the trenches I don't know of what he thought but I'm sure he deserved his thoughts!

i hear you. i havent stopped cryin-saw him at the Somerville Theater in Somerville MA in the latish 70s-wish i had recorded it. this song always makes this ole boy bawl. like a worn in pair of jeans, John had a combo of tough and soft. couldnt someone else(not that anyone should have died of this insanity) have been taken-i can think of one person who has the worst comb-over and brainless head born(sorry-you couldnt pay my ass to support Trump. or give me an old Knucklehead) and thats a lot.
i saw Bonnie also yrs ago at the old Jacks in Cambridge ,,,,,i wore a path in the sidewalk between there and the Plough. how i survived and still and sober 30yrs later is a FREAKIN miracle.
the monkeys are an stopping the push-ups with people droppin like flies. but i aint goin out from this if i can help it-thank god for my cd collection! we are here for ya kim, from Ass a 2 shits.

Nothing brings authenticity to a tune like a pedal steel, it’s the hubcaps and chrome man, hubcaps and chrome...

At 2:55 - look at the love in the eyes and smile of the cello player behind Ruthie. And then the strings flow so smoothly into the body of the song!!

This kind of music reaches inside and touches your very soul and sometimes tears escape from your eyes. Bonnie and Ruthie Foster, whom I plan to seek out more of, did more than justice to this John Prine masterpiece. Fly high, John! You left us with so much to inspire us.

I always liked Bonnie. We’re about the same age and I hear that in her voice. I used to play this song using John Prine’s chords. Gonna go pick up my guitar. Thanks Bonnie. And John.

Bonnie Raitt. Man, this woman has been so important in the rock and folk music world. I am 67 and when I was 14 I went to my first concert in Oakland, California. It was the awesone Blind Faith. Bonnie Raitt opened for them in a group called Delany, Bonnie and Friends. I remember her then short hair and big bell bottom pants and her beautiful big voice. And she is still going strong today and still looks great. A true classic. The young woman sounds amazing as well.
