Ugh hate it hate it hate it. I barely use Cycles, as i work on stylized renders over realistic ones. So what a joy it was to find out that Eevee was reworked to be just as needlessly complicated as Cycles is. I quite liked being able to control the bloom values on each shader's emission, and now it's all one node. Beautiful
It can look like they have gone out their way to make something complex - and it definitely is more complex than ticking a box, On the upside it now means that eevee and cycles rendering will be more alike.
@@Therizinosaurus most materials and lighting setups seem to work across them without having to tweak much- although on highly reflective scenes Eevee falls down because of the use of screenspace effects, which can ruin scenes with high reflectivity for example
Thanks not only for explaining how it's done. Especially thanks for writing thar AddOn, that brings the old simplicity back. I'm using blender only like once a year, and when I do, there is always a new version, and I can't find things where they used to be. Making something what could be done in 15 min a 2 hours job... In such situations explanations like yours definitely help. So thanks again:) On a side note this is a strong pointer to start involving the node editor. It's a super mighty tool - mighty enough to sink weeks into it and still be amazed what could be done with it (not that I had the time, but I wished I had). The thing just is: You know your node editor? You will have far less Blender questions :)
I think I see why they did this; it creates continuity between the render engines, and recategorizes a function that _is_ really meant for post-processing. The little part of me that is afraid of stepping out of what I know is annoyed, but I really should get to know the compositor more.
Huge thanks for showing how to use this! Was worried they just got rid of it or something in the new update, but using the Glare node in the compositor looks like you can do a ton of cool stuff with it!
I made an add-on just for that btw: ruclips.net/video/1TLjDpquI90/видео.html Unfortuantely I think the Blender foundation might have made a mistake keeping the same name. Eevee is fundamentally different now so somethings have had to change, but keeping the name the same means it appears like things have changed for changes sake.
Mixed feelings, see below - Sad that Blender removed an amazing one-click feature - over the moon that Mr.Bridges added it back with a rockin' Add-on - miffed that I have to pay $2.99 for it - humbled that I get what it is to monetize your own hard work to put food on the table (and I don't have development skills to do it myself for free, so there's that). All in all, Michael - thank you for your video and sharing with us your hard work to make it easy to accomplish again!
Hi, I tried this but when I render the scene it doesn't look the same as what is shown in the "Layout" tab. Like as though compositing is not being applied when I render it.
Good to see you addressing this. After my mention of it in your 4.2 video comments. 'Interesting move with bloom, never liked that effect anyway, but lots and lots do and I can see howls coming that it is not just a click away any more.'
Bloom isn't a light source/light volume but a post processing effect based on brightness. It wouldn't be reflected, however if the bright surface or light is being reflected, and it was bright enough bloom would affect it as well. Try playing with the mix and threshold if the bloom isn't intense enough.
Gah! Why couldn't they have left it there xD Sure go the route of the compositor if you wanna, but honestly just having a tick box in the render settings pane too - like why not keep both options available for those who want a simple bloom just to preview. Now it's a lot more involved to get the same effect that you could've previously with just a tick T_T
I know it’s frustrating when the move things- but ultimately they’ve kept the name Eevee when it is a brand new render engine. So a different way is required to perform the same action as before. I’ve even made an add on to simplify it once again. ruclips.net/video/1TLjDpquI90/видео.htmlsi=zrgsBlvUudvfw-1S
I totally get peoples frustration with it. However, it’s actually a whole new render engine with the same name as before I think that’s the biggest mistake here unfortunately.
I just switched to blender 4.3 and was so confused why bloom was non existent, this new update has been really weird for me to navigate, i think i'm just gonna create a blender template to always have this in the composite
this is a cool feature but the new eevee feature just makes my pc a little bit slower, is there a way to use this bloom system in the old eevee version? also cool video, you helped me too much thank you.
they are focusing too much on overcomplicating and changing things that were so simple back then, i still have no idea what happened to the blend and shadow modes or ambient occlusion, they still havent brought back the node search function which they removed for no reason, and now they overcomplicated bloom so hard, god damn iiiiiitttt 😭😭😭 though i guess its a reason to try compositing more often, its fun but im always too lazy for it
This blender sometimes works in bloom and other times it doesn't. Apart from having a powerful GPU, I feel like it lost performance and makes a lot of noise in the live render. I feel like I liked the GPU. I'll stay with version 4.1 for a year and if it doesn't improve, I'll delete it.
Weird decision to put this option somewhere else now if Im being honest. I liked it when it was just a click of button alongside with the other render options
Noob here. How the heck did you add the new window? My arrows just stretch/shrink what's already there. I was watching a beginner's tutorial and now I'm here because I was supposed to use Bloom in the tutorial. Facepalm.
I think it might have been a mistake keeping the same name for Eevee, it’s a new render engine really so doesn’t behave like the old one. Totally understand the frustration.
I genuinely think it would’ve been better if they had changed the name of the render engine essentially it’s a brand-new render engine with the same name as the one before.
So simple yet hard to find. I spent way too much time "googling" how to fix this, only wish I'd found yours sooner. Thank you!
Glad I could help!

Gotta love blender going out their way to make something overly complex!

Thanks! I'm doing an old Polygon Runway lesson and couldn't find bloom anywhere. Works like a charm now.
Glad I could help!
While I don't like the new complex path, I like that you can customize it more now! That was definitely something I was missing

Yup that’s always been a goal to make Eevee and Cycles as switchable as possible.

thanks man that helped a lot
Glad it helped :-)
well that's certainly annoying. but ive never had a reason to use compositing before and it seems fun now that ive tried it out.
Thanks new to Blender been looking all over for this.
Glad I could help :-)
Hi, I tried this but when I render the scene it doesn't look the same as what is shown in the "Layout" tab. Like as though compositing is not being applied when I render it.
Quite common- The Render usually has higher Quality settings which can make a big difference to the appearance of a render versus the viewport.

Да, это помогло с проблемой исчезания bloom
can you please also advice how to render the bloom from composing mode, becouse it disappeared againg.
ohh sorry I just found your another video where you explained. thx. Its a pity that blender going more worse than before
I've done this but now it won't reflect off anything?
Bloom isn't a light source/light volume but a post processing effect based on brightness.
It wouldn't be reflected, however if the bright surface or light is being reflected, and it was bright enough bloom would affect it as well.

wish there was a setting for doing it the old way or the new way that you could pick

Oh my god, thanks man! I don't understand why they removed the Bloom button from Render Properties....
I know, right?
Wish they would stop moving features like this with every version. I hope the person responsible steps on a lego.
I totally get peoples frustration with it.
However, it’s actually a whole new render engine with the same name as before I think that’s the biggest mistake here unfortunately.
Thank you very much.
Welcome 😊
all that shi for something that simple i'll go back on old version
Blender has been pretty amazing for quite some time - you can make fantastic art even using something like 2.79!
It wasn’t even that bad…

Great idea 💡
@MichaelBridges3D
Actually I had a better idea and downgraded back to 4.0 cause I was having too mamy issues with eevee trying to be cycles...

this is a cool feature but the new eevee feature just makes my pc a little bit slower, is there a way to use this bloom system in the old eevee version?

Unfortunately, not eevee has been rewritten so even that has the same name it’s completely redone render engine.
@@MichaelBridges3D np i upgraded my pc but thank you for thr info

Man this is the worst update of all time 😭
4.1 for one year more
It's quite a big change for Eevee, in fact that's probably the problem, it's completely new, but keeps the old name

Still trying to wrap my head around all the changes... and I read the change logs!
With this new, I simply can't make it look good, the blade is either way too bright, or doesn't have that solid white core and blue blur. Its horrible
I'm sure you'll find the right balance!
вот зачем с каждым обновление они все меняют местами?
Я понимаю, как это раздражает, когда всё меняется, особенно когда ты привык к одному с версии Blender 2.8!

No one likes change, but I think it'll be better in the long run.
love you
Glad I could help.
Weird decision to put this option somewhere else now if Im being honest. I liked it when it was just a click of button alongside with the other render options
what if i'm a grease pencil user?
Because bloom is now part of the compositing workflow it will be there in the compositor.
Noob here. How the heck did you add the new window? My arrows just stretch/shrink what's already there.
I was watching a beginner's tutorial and now I'm here because I was supposed to use Bloom in the tutorial. Facepalm.
No worries- just move to the corner of the window to split it into a new one :)
why did they change it broooo now I have to look for tutorials of a tutorial
I think it might have been a mistake keeping the same name for Eevee, it’s a new render engine really so doesn’t behave like the old one. Totally understand the frustration.
@@MichaelBridges3D but thank you for the easy solution man you are a real one
Terrible move by blender. seems like each update makes the program worse.

Thanks for the support ❤️
This is so dumb why did they remove it?
I genuinely think it would’ve been better if they had changed the name of the render engine essentially it’s a brand-new render engine with the same name as the one before.
