The Yankees have never been the same franchise ever since they lost to the Red Sox in '04.
For the longest time, it felt like the MLB was the New York Yankees and everybody else. They were the only real superpower in all of sports. But blowing that 3-0 lead to their biggest rival changed everything. It's the kind of loss you don't recover from. It broke the franchise. Yeah, they've had success since then (including a World Series in '09), but now they feel like just another sports team that makes the playoffs a lot, and not the domineering force of nature they once were.
What I'm trying to say is that they're basically the Cowboys of baseball. After '04 they went from being THE franchise to A franchise. And now we can all bask in the schadenfreude as almost 100 years worth of karma crashes down on them. It's beautiful.

Meanwhile I will continue to wait for the ultimate victory-a WS win by the orange and blue over the Evil Empire.

@@andrewpadaetz5549 Understandable, and I did see a video that talked about that Enrique Wilson situation a bit. That being said, the reason why I said 2001 was it was because it not only ended what can be considered a dynasty from the late 1990's and 2000, but it also happened while they lost to a then-4 year old team in the Arizona Diamondbacks (who I'm a fan of myself, by the way). The damage that did to them was long-term to the point of them losing in 2003 to the Marlins back when they represented all of Florida and then doing what you mentioned in 2004 against Boston (who coincidentally also had Curt Schilling around for that moment). Sure the Yankees won one more in the late 2000's, but the point still stands in that they've never been the same since 2001.
