"Maybe Design isn't for you." That's keeping it hyper real, Chris. I wish more people would be honest with themselves and their skill sets, as well as their instructors and Creative Directors...
@11:33, this is, I think I remember as an old Chinese fortune telling. They said that our face is divided into 3 parts. Your forehead is your past in your idea is = Think, your eyes to nose area is your present = Say, and your mouth or lips and chin is your future = Do. And these 3 parts are happening at the same time. This is your Harmony. I don't know where this will fit in your talk. But character for me is not measured in time but in harmony and a moment.
I love how we did not get answer for the very first question, that started the whole conversation and still you guys made it super enjoyable/informative. :)
When I have doubts about myself as "qualified" person who will get customers, I look around and see awful and incompetent people getting business. This gives me hope that someday I will find my ideal customers and I will give them results they signed up for.
Sitting here after watching each part of this talk thinking, I need to hear Chris Do speak live one day. But also props to the production team for making these videos a seamless experience for us viewers! The team is incredible.
Can I just say how awesome it is to see so many men and women of different ethnicities, backgrounds, age groups and with such different ideas come together? I always thought that was so cool about these talks.
Sacrebleu! Im french and its funny because non french always know that word... and we dnt use this word at all lol Its like a french word from the past. Good channel i just discovered it
one thing I always do in my portfolio (when its possible) is to write in the specs about the project how many weeks/days was my deadline to do that. I believe this is a really important info that should be commonly stated in portfolios, but most people forget about it.
Awesome content as usual. Big fan! Also, I'm french: we spell it "Crème de la crème", not "Créme de la créme". The "é" is slightly different from the "è". It sounds very similar to a non-french speaking person though (even to a native to be honest). But I'm bothering you over meaningless stuff ahah!
Thank you so much The Futur, you are quite inspiring and you have great content that really really helps. I think I've been learning more with this channel than what I've learned at school.
I'd heard of Simon Sinek's TED Talk via his recent interview with Gary Vaynerchuk, but I hadn't watched it until you guys shared the link. Thanks for another insightful discussion as well.
Great show and I'm super excited to watch the video of Mai (hope I spelled it right) showing a great example in demonstrating passion in action through overdelivering on the print designs. I'm always excited to see others putting creative passion in action.
Thanks for another insightful video. I learned a bit more about going deeper when evaluating the personal brand. Love the part about harmony and self awareness. So true. I also found that Chris and I have similar drawing styles and that he, like me, and I suspect most, draw human heads that look most like ourselves - that which we see in the mirror on a daily basis. :-)
I liked the way you embraced the question, the brands those influence you. IMHO, I don't think you'd answered the question. What other brands do you look up to and why? Is there any way to demonstrate what we believe in our work showcase? There are lots of platforms to showcase your work, but if we add our beliefs up there I think it may get diluted. Most of the people are looking for the aesthetic beauty of the designers' work, like which typeface did he use, which tone of red is he using, etc. Values and beliefs are left unnoticed.
The Futur Good to hear that! These are very different brands usually people don't seem to follow. UBER, Apple, Google, are most of their favorites, as these brands are more vocal and visible atleast once in a day to the common man.
Hi Chris, Can you make a list of book that we should read? Not just about design but about anything that you think it's helpful. I like your "brand," so I want to know what make you become who you are.
Hello! This particular video is EVERYTHING! Can you provide the name of the episode with 'Min' at 14:57? I would love to watch & impart that knowledge to a group of young college designers I am currently working with! MANY THANKS & I am looking forward to see more conversations from this channel!
Chris -- I'm an industrial design guy shifting towards 3D/illustration. I'm starting to take on "freelance" work and have been enjoying your videos and where you're going with The Futur. I live in Santa Barbara, a little north of you, and am wondering if you have an event schedule or have open invitations to these video sessions. How can I get involved?
Chris, I would love for you to talk about the infamous Pepsi ad, the one where Kendall Jenner gives the policeman a Pepsi. It would be an interesting case study because of what the company is trying to do. Which is essentially in line with this video, trying to get your beliefs in line with the populace. Also, is it a good idea to bring polarizing ideals into advertisements? Because I kinda see them as counter-productive and damaging to the brand. At the end of the day, there is a struggle because everybody has political beliefs and people love to make everything about politics these days and those who do not have to be good at avoiding the topic all together.
I’ve noticed, people often ask him what his inspirations are or what his opinions on certain topics or situations are, but he never directly answers those questions. He often times redirects those questions back to his audience.
The Futur I understand that, didn’t know what it was called though so thanks :) I think what I mean is it would be nice to know his opinions unadulterated ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Group work at university = disaster every time. I don't know why they bother if they don't first want to teach leadership & resource management because it is NOTHING like working in an office if that's the foolish idea. rant over.
So I'm studying at the moment at a pretty damn good education institution (after hearing you guys talk about how some of them approach design curriculum) - We've got a teamwork problem in that over half the students have just entered from high school are just caring about the grades, they just care about the paper at the end and the shortest path to getting that. They slack and procrastinate due to a lack of... something. Is there any advice that you can give on how to help them succeed?
First of all, Beyonce has MONEY which gives her access to those hours. The rest of us have things like oh idk a job that we do during those hours. Then after we get home and feed the kids, take care of the garden, get some exercise and some dinner, we need SLEEP. And some of us live with illness so no we don't all have the same number of hours.
I believe the episode with Min mentioned at 14:57 is this: ruclips.net/video/DLeSPCTA9Wg/видео.html and then part 2: ruclips.net/video/2TUP7L48zUo/видео.html
Chris, I love your shows, I value your knowledge and I admire your generosity. But you need to take care of your own brand too: Please invest in a better suit tailored specifically to you! :) PS: The suit jacket you are wearing in this video is too small. Just being honest, like you. ;-)
How do you know Beyonce has the same hours as Chris? You don't really know Beyonce nor do you really know Chris. It's actually a misconception that we all have the same hours as everyone else. NO, WE DON'T. We have different hours based on ability and our place inside the Crooked rooms of systemic oppression. That's why personal success alone is not enough. We have to change the crooked room itself!
funny, more and more I prefer microsoft than apple . I'm seeing apple going a path of more end/family consumer ( but keeping the premium quality/VIP expensive part), and microsoft now becoming the go to option for work computers, especially in some creative areas ( motion design, CG, for example), plus making great design upgrades in their products, though it seems part of microsoft still doesn't care about it, and is not really interested in making it work :/
OMG, what is wrong with these students (especially on the left, the guy in the gray/plum striped hoodie and the girl on the stool in black are not enthused at all! They look depressed and miserable. They are so lucky to have the chance to interact with you but clearly don't appreciate that! Maybe they missed their calling and need to find a different career path! GEEZ!!
"People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it."
Net Tree Media yes!
Net Tree Media ---Thanks for the summary!!
There’s book about it. Start with why
Dumbassbullshit😅
Good luck
Thank you for keeping respectable language. I work from home and have my 3 kids so they listen and watch this with me. 🙌
Net Tree Media in try my best.
"Maybe Design isn't for you." That's keeping it hyper real, Chris. I wish more people would be honest with themselves and their skill sets, as well as their instructors and Creative Directors...
it works for me, but i know i can be off putting to others.
On the other side though,
Walt Disney lacked vision and should walk a different path then being an animator...
Harmony = do+say+think 🤯 thanks Chris for being an outlet of wisdom. 🙏🏾 kudos to your team
@11:33, this is, I think I remember as an old Chinese fortune telling. They said that our face is divided into 3 parts. Corem de la bleu! Haha comedy gold 😂 Another great video, thanks Chris and the team :)
Dansky Sam provided the perfect material.
When I have doubts about myself as "qualified" person who will get customers, I look around and see awful and incompetent people getting business. This gives me hope that someday I will find my ideal customers and I will give them results they signed up for.
Sometimes it feels like you gotta be a better businessman than a better creator. Unfortunately.
Sitting here after watching each part of this talk thinking, I need to hear Chris Do speak live one day. But also props to the production team for making these videos a seamless experience for us viewers! The team is incredible.

Sacrebleu! Im french and its funny because non french always know that word... and we dnt use this word at all lol
Its like a french word from the past.
Good channel i just discovered it
it's like an overused word from cartoons and caricatures of french people.
Bienvenue mon ami.
Brilliant!!
Thanks for the good vibe. Im glad how my youtube recommendation are flourish with positive videos.
one thing I always do in my portfolio (when its possible) is to write in the specs about the project how many weeks/days was my deadline to do that. I believe this is a really important info that should be commonly stated in portfolios, but most people forget about it.
that's good info to include.
One Punch Man teaching Branding. I Love this!!
Chris Do: you're not off putting to me at all. I wish more people were direct and to the point and asked valuable questions.
This channel is so useful, I believe it will go viral at some point. Thank you @TheFutur for sharing from this mindset of abundance!
You have the same number of hours in the day (and personal assistants) as Beyoncé.
Chris Do seems very intelligent, charismatic, hardworking and intimidating
3 of those statements are most likely true.
+ very sexy
yes our life is determine by our character. belief and charcter is factor which any man will go in life.
For me and I think the Apple logo is a symbol of awakening, enlightenment, nirvana etc. Remember the first bite? :D
Thank you so much The Futur, you are quite inspiring and you have great content that really really helps. I think I've been learning more with this channel than what I've learned at school.
On a pretty unrelated note: when are you guys launching the typography course? Can't wait to get my hands on it!
ARM Cezar patience. Sorry.
No worries. I'm sure it will be worth the wait!
The exact thing I need to study and work on right now! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and your belief!
Chris didn't throw the pen this time lol.... As Always, it was sooooo educational
Oussama Rh I don't throw pencils do I?
I'd heard of Simon Sinek's TED Talk via his recent interview with Gary Vaynerchuk, but I hadn't watched it until you guys shared the link. Thanks for another insightful discussion as well.
he's amazing. definitely read his book and watch the video.
Yeah I watched the video, thanks. I'll check out the book you mentioned. I know he's releasing or just released a new book.
Congrats on hitting 100k+ subscribers!
Paul Le thanks 🙏 Paul.
Thank you so much for sharing!
We trust you guys! Another great vid
Meh Zachula because you believe what we believe.
Great show and I'm super excited to watch the video of Mai (hope I spelled it right) showing a great example in demonstrating passion in action through overdelivering on the print designs.
I'm always excited to see others putting creative passion in action.
i think i might've mentioned "Min", but don't recall. if you provide time code, i will clarify.
10:26 lmao he drew himself
Thanks for another insightful video. I learned a bit more about going deeper when evaluating the personal brand. Love the part about harmony and self awareness. So true. I also found that Chris and I have similar drawing styles and that he, like me, and I suspect most, draw human heads that look most like ourselves - that which we see in the mirror on a daily basis. :-)
I'm binge watching your videos! I learn so much.
sweet

I admired Patagonia, Trader Joe's, Apple, Tumi. does that help?
The Futur Good to hear that! These are very different brands usually people don't seem to follow. UBER, Apple, Google, are most of their favorites, as these brands are more vocal and visible atleast once in a day to the common man.
How can i found a full video link? Can someone please put it here🤗
Hi Chris,
Can you make a list of book that we should read? Not just about design but about anything that you think it's helpful. I like your "brand," so I want to know what make you become who you are.
whoever said that apple gadgets are well designed internally to easy peasy fix them have no idea about that subject
wish i can attend your sessions live in the futur (see what I did there haha!). thanks again for the content! 🙏
Jelvin Base don't be Jel-Ly.
Awesome and I think Chris is a Tom Leykis fan.
oh really?! ;)
Hello! This particular video is EVERYTHING! Can you provide the name of the episode with 'Min' at 14:57? I would love to watch & impart that knowledge to a group of young college designers I am currently working with! MANY THANKS & I am looking forward to see more conversations from this channel!
Nice talk. Learnt few things.. and just love your ending music. :)
Those shoes though, didn't know you were also a fashion icon lol. Really liked the video Cris!
lol. i like to go classic and then flip one thing.
Good video, as ever thanks guys. Couldn’t help but think the face you drew looks like Billy Corgan 😂

Really appreciate your. videos! Thanks for keeping the content great and consistent.
Macy Harrell thanks!

we have open events which we post on Eventbrite. you can also stay informed by following our Futur page on FB.
See you on June 15! Thanks
Danny Yount?
The Futur Yes Sir. Stoked. Right up my alley, actually. I have a title design project right now!
should be a good one.
Unexpected goodness! :)
Chris, I would love for you to talk about the infamous Pepsi ad, the one where Kendall Jenner gives the policeman a Pepsi. is that true? it's called the socratic method. It's a question based way of helping people to understand by asking.
The Futur I understand that, didn’t know what it was called though so thanks :) I think what I mean is it would be nice to know his opinions unadulterated ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
crème de la crème ....😂😂😂
INCKUP lol.
Amazing like always! Wish I was there!
Jobs originally wanted to call Apple "Bicycle." Good thing someone who understood branding was there.
Group work at university = disaster every time. I don't know why they bother if they don't first want to teach leadership & resource management because it is NOTHING like working in an office if that's the foolish idea. rant over.
Scott Valentine challenging st the least.
Albert Junior or teach team dynamics.
Is there a video for what Dave has mentioned about being part of a team?

raymond maweikere dive in.
Good to see you on suit.. Do. Smiles
Thank you!
CHRISMATIC haha
10:20 @solei, you gotta see this
I could not find Min's work, can you please post the link? Great video btw! =)
Renata Buzhar probably spelling her name wrong
So I'm studying at the moment at a pretty damn good education institution (after hearing you guys talk about how some of them approach design curriculum) - We've got a teamwork problem in that over half the students have just entered from high school are just caring about the grades, they just care about the paper at the end and the shortest path to getting that. Is there any advice that you can give on how to help them succeed?
Whats the name of the episode where we get to see the layout that Min (sorry if it mispelled it) did for the magazine?
also was it only Min on the project? or was there a bigger team. Seems like she works really fast!
I hope since these you posted this comment 2 years ago, that you have changed your mindset bc its a very fixed mindset. Have a great day
Can someone identify the older asian gentleman who was asking those bomb questions? Super informative.
i think you are referring to Dave Moon, former director of design department at CSUN.
Dammit Bobby
Apple, the frontline of new technology? Innovative? You're funny!
15:50
What happen when your work never count, when you do your best, and is never good for your boss, because he have preferences? somebody can help me?
QUESTION is:
*In what ways can you express your character through your work?* 🍒
I believe the episode with Min mentioned at 14:57 is this:
ruclips.net/video/DLeSPCTA9Wg/видео.html
and then part 2:
ruclips.net/video/2TUP7L48zUo/видео.html
thanks. i'll add this to the notes/description.
The Futur you're welcome.
Chris, I love your shows, I value your knowledge and I admire your generosity. But you need to take care of your own brand too: Please invest in a better suit tailored specifically to you! :) PS: The suit jacket you are wearing in this video is too small. Just being honest, like you. ;-)
yeah. i outgrew that jacket. too many pull ups. ;0
My suit is a bit too small. I should probably do some more pull ups! :-)
Speaking about brand, tie seems not to be his correct outfit to me, I believe...Chris come back to the black t-shirts
Never seen you in a tie lolol
hey daniel, i love to wear ties.
did he know he actually said "Do you want to sleep wth me?" in french?
William Pelletier yes. It's what everyone learns first when taking a foreign language class.
Maybe he wanted to say cordon bleue😂😂😂😂
Must be a cultural thing, the question on which nanny should be hired I went with the proven, experienced option.
Might be.
Jung not Freud!
Not 99 designs! 99U! :P but good talk otherwise, enjoyed it.
How do you know Beyonce has the same hours as Chris? You don't really know Beyonce nor do you really know Chris. It's actually a misconception that we all have the same hours as everyone else. 14:37 lol, someone drop the 8-bit sunglasses on Chris. Nobody is here to listen to a "professor" spew theory.
My team did that
Apple = innovation hahaha more comedy gold - maybe 10 years ago
ah interesting, even though its the 25th here already, it says published 24th because of the local time. never thought about that
Ari Hui time zone issues.
LoL walking dead spoiler dammit
Chris your brand is Chrismatic
thanks!
So even the character you draw is bald
Yes. Haha
I'm a creative an I dont even like apple 😂
funny, more and more I prefer microsoft than apple . hate to admit it, but there's some truth to that. c'mon Tim Cook! you can do it.
Ughh Beyonce? She doesn't write her own songs she doesn't do her own choreography. She's a hoax. A good brand? Porsche, Acne, Elton John?
Elvis Boulala yes. Those brands are amazing. Beyoncé is amazing too. She works hard. And deserves all the credit.
Chris’ brand turns me off. I’m listening. But I don’t like him.
What about my brand turns you off?
The Futur you seem arrogant. You’ve obviously have the right to be with your work and accomplishments. However, that’s a turn off.
The Futur I should note: I’ve binged your channel. So it matters little.
so cringe
pee gee how come
