Wow I love this. I hate posting on social media. I don’t feel confident enough or pretty enough to post a selfie. And now I want to launch my own business and thinking about to post on social media makes me feel overwhelmed. Today in age and specialty rn with the pandemic if we don’t have social media we don’t exist. And it’s something I have been preparing for a few months. I get so anxious and overwhelmed on Instagram. I know a lot of people photoshop but I still feel uncomfortable with myself.

love this series! Melina's story is so relatable. Chris has so much wisdom, esp when it comes to the process and mindset of filtering out the social media feedback we receive which can consume us and affect us. "We're borrowing, using ideas, technologies, process, methods from people before us, otherwise we'd be reinventing everything all the time. What progress would we make?" Well said!

It amazes me, how everytime I feel like I'm facing a roadblock in my design career and journey, I find something in The Futur channel that can help me overcome it. I had many of the same questions Melinda had and I have found some great advice and tips here. Thank you so much!
For me, the issue is the whole focus thing. I' still in the beginning of my career and I haven't figured out what area in design I love the most and want to focus on, so for the moment, I'm doing branding, print, illustrations and also some motion design and digital painting projects. I'm not sure if having an Instagram account that has this much variation is a good idea ?! ..

This is a timely post. Even though it is years old, there are plenty of nuggets to learn and follow. It is honest and straightforward about posting and content. This goes against the common talk about constant postings and transferring content from one content to another channel (there is a big name “guru” who stresses otherwise). Chris comes across as humble and honest. Thank you for giving a drop the mic moment about originality. Better MasterClass material from The Futur than from most of the “gurus” I hear from. 🔥

    @IvanProsic 5 лет назад +3

Amazing video. Here are some of the points I got writing down (and some from the description):
Post once a week, but high quality. (Better than more posts a day)
What to share next ? What I'm learning ?
You can repeat the same things but with variety.
Different strategies for different social medias. Dont just repost on instagram same things then on twitter, facebook etc.
Twitter: Use it differently. Example: Use text on an image.
What people are gonna say about my stuff - Judgement ? (Work on social media)
Don't care about other people's opinion. When you make something, be passionate about it, but once you put it out in the world, detach from it as if it were someone else'
What is a critiqe and fact ? Telling things that is incorrent and how you can improve it. People like to throw around opinions. Reframe the Objection:
Filter out the opinions and pay attention to the constructive critique
"You ripped off this X designer" - Because you don't know where something comes from does not make your work original.
Mindset: I just want to learn. I don't really care if I ripped off, I tried making the same.
Nothing we do is original - everything you've done, is a reflection of what you have experienced. Otherwise we would be reinventing what we already invented.
Your design skills and training to help attract viewers
Tell your story to let people connect and identify with you.
Find somebody you like and deconstruct their process.
Copyright - You're not selling on social media. Stop focusing on the no's because the no's will get you nowhere.
Focus on being intentional and sharing.
When putting something out there - Make it valuable. Help somebody. Share the process and journey.

I found this video very helpful. Those fears of criticisms are "real" in that they're constantly circling in my head so much so that the topical item I wanted to discuss is no longer relevant. :/ Thanks for doing this Q&A and thanks for the tips on overcoming SM fears. (P.s. I haven't read the comments, so I'm not sure if anyone has addressed it but the topic of conveying emotion creates a lot of anxiety in me. I'm not your classic emotional person comfortable with sharing exclamation points, comfortable sharing opinions with vulnerability, comfortable conveying heightened interest and exuberance. I often find these people get traffic because others identify with that high-energy person... I am high-energy in person, but in writing/videos/content creation the tonality is lacking... :/ I talk about women and diversity in STEM, animal ethics/welfare, conservation biology, and education and public engagement (EPE) topics. These "sell" with an audience when you share the content with exuberance!!

I’ve been thinking of what the future holds for RUclips and I just found it. This type of content. Imagine a 30 to 1hr video like this in a world of 5-10minute videos and still out stand them all. Your content defies the trends. I knew it is possible to not be limited into 5-10minutes and yet have viewers so glued. Love your content!!

I'm nowhere near of being a designer or other creative person. I'm just interest in creative topics and beginning to learn and find out if and what I can do. Therefor I watch a lot of Chris' videos with more overall topics. Like this one. I'm always amazed by the quality of the production, the professionalism and the knowledge, wisdom that can be found in these videos. I'll always take something away that I find helpful and memorable including a good feeling by just watching Chris talk and interact with other people. To see how he sparks thoughts and inspires people to come up with their own solutions. And in a natural, kind, friendly way. Truly amazing! And it's for free!!
