Have a 2k tomorrow Cam, hopefully gonna break 7 mins. Your content has helped me push on massively and just wanted to show my appreciation for the work you put in and show us, there’s not many athletes of your level that would do so. It’s absolutely inspiring. Thanks 🙏
@@giolgoeire392 so close! you'll get it next time. During my race I got 6:48. For me, what helped was drinking tons of orange juice before the race, creating a short playlist of songs that pumped me up / distract me from the pain, warming up like 30 minutes before and staying somewhat warm leading up to the start, but what messed me up was getting 4hrs of sleep before the race. I also did like 1-2 months of zone two before the race and days before I stopped weight lifting and doing intense workouts for 3 days. Good luck!

Very inspirational brother, thanks for sharing this amazing video, quick question, do you warm-up before attempting every rowing sessions? If so what do you do for warm up
Thanks for the support! For the easy sessions I generally won’t warm up but the harder sessions I’ll make sure I am. Depending on the session it will vary a bit but generally getting warm and sweaty involving low intensity and bursts at pace for the workout. I could for sure make a workout doing that!
Have you ever attempted keto? The marketing says if you’re fat adapted you won’t crash after depleting glycogen because you’re just used to burning fat. Myself I find I never get back to the power I can sustain after eating carbs even after some real time in ketosis.
I've never tried it fully but I've never only heard of bad things when doing longer cardio work. Also, generally only lasts 10-20minutes depending on the workout for me
How Exactly does it change your physique. If I started doing this for example maybe not to this degree but just pushing myself for more distance what improvements would I see in the face of competition like a 1k erg competition?
What are your thoughts on running for zone 2 training vs rowing for zone 2 training? Do you think it can be as effective to run for 1 hour at 130 bpm vs row for 1 hour at 130 bpm? I find it easier for time to pass running at slow pace vs rowing at slow pace.
I think it works quite well! It also depends on the goals. Ultimately you running isn't going to make your rowing better as such so depends how much time you have and how many sessions would be running vs rowing. Generally I will see a higher HR for running than rowing but that can be different for everyone. It is also nice to get off the erg once in a while!
Rowing is a rowing sport. Running is good for cross training but to be fast at rowing then you need to row. The same applies if you want to be good at running: you need to run regularly and consistently.
@@CameronBuchan What about cycling? How different would one hour of cycling be compared to 1 hour of rowing for your overall improvement, considering it uses more of the same muscle groups as rowing?
@@CameronBuchan that makes sense. thank you for the answer. My current training plan is about 4-5 hours of zone 2 running a week, 2-3 hours of zone 2 rowing, 3-4 hours of weight lifting, 2 HIIT rowing workouts, 2-3 hours yoga / mobility work, and 2 days on the water practicing with the crew. my goal for my next 2k is 6:30 or below. hopefully I can hit that and be on my way to 6:15 or below one day.

It depends what you mean by your legs hurting. It could be because you are pushing too hard and cannot hold that intensity. It could be technique related, I'm not sure. There are loads of videos on my channel talking about gym work for rowing
could it be that my legs don't have time to recover and maybe you could pin a video about gym training Thanks for the help and about my technique, it is quite poor because I don't cover my leg

Listen to tour coach, make sure you have a solid race plan and stick to it, from now til after the final think about things like "will this help me go faster or slower at champs".
Great to see you back again. One thing I've noticed is that in the earlier videos your arms seemed to progressively bend more straight after the catch ,as you (presumably) fatigued during longer pieces. You seemed to have resolved that - would you agree? `Keep on yammin'
What is the logic behind the high rep weights work? My intuition would be to favour high load low rep weights and leave muscular endurance to the sport specific training (erg/water).

Curious why you are doing your steady state above your normal zone? Looks like you're pushing a little harder.
Like I said at the end, it was an overload week so pushing the pace on the majority of the workouts and only a few steady state ones.
