      Depends on the work. Classic sessions are 24k around rate 18 "stead state", 30 minutes rate 20 (Pinsents record for that was over 9,000m at altitude). 5km flat out and 2km flat out. Standard will be around 15:30 for 5km and 5:50 for 2km.

    • @richardking7058
      @richardking7058 3 года назад +3

      Know I'm a bit late but splits are in the region of 1:49 (if I remember correctly Barnabe Delarze pulls 1:45) for their steady state, which is the bulk of what they're doing. They're doing roughly 40k a day of SS plus a weights session, bike or a higher intensity piece. I'd imagine they do very few high intensity pieces because at altitude fatigue builds up really quickly and recovery takes longer.

      @@ewoutstorm4626 "toughest" means a lot of things. I would argue rowing is absolutely one of the toughest cardiovascular endurance sports there is. A "fighter" wouldn't come close to the cadiovascular output required of an Olympic level rower. And by no means is a rower "tough" enough to compete against an elite fighter. "Toughness" to me means a combination of cardiovascular endurance, athleticism and perhaps, most important of all, mental fortitude - and putting all of that together in a singular event... that is toughness. Cycling, cross-country skiing and rowing require a level of mental toughness not many athletes can touch.

    That tortuous experience where you have no control over your limbs is something a person never forgets. I also remember times going in and out of consciousness but kept going just out of muscle and training memory. And there is nothing like being in a boat of 4 or 8 people where you might not be the fittest guy in the boat but you do not want to be the reason why your boat loses so you're trying so summon the demons from within to help you keep up with or push harder than the team. So grueling. And when you cross the finish line I don't remember every being as happy about winning as much as knowing that the torture would soon stop (but never immediately stops)

    I wasn't really an avid rower, I'd row once a week from when I was 13 until I was 16-17. I remember getting a 7:30 for a 2km when I was 15. I was pretty pleased, considering I only rowed a few km each week. I miss the cold, the rain and the burn. It was hell but you felt better once you finished.

    Do rowers do any weights or is the training 100% rowing?

    • @JustJeris
      @JustJeris 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you have to do loads of weight training as well. Rowing is equally endurance and strength. Mainly, rowers focus on compound movements such as squatting, deadlifting. Rowers are very strong athletes because you need to have loads of strength with as little muscles as possible to have a good strength and weight ratio. I've seen 80kg rowers lift a 160kg deadlift for 10x reps, no problem, but being quite small. So yeah you need to be very strong and be able to use that strength for a very long time. Imagine deadlifting for straight 6-7minutes nonstop.

    • @APerson-co7er
      @APerson-co7er 4 года назад +2

      ItsLloydM8 It’s meant to simulate the drag in a boat on the water due to factors like weight. The higher the drag factor, the more resistance there is, but the lower splits you pull. GB Rowing tests are 138, my high school did 112-120.
