- The 2019 World Rowing Championships in Linz have just finished, and not all boats are yet qualified for Tokyo 2020. Six months out from Olympic and Paralympic Trials there is a lot of work to do for the GB Rowing Team. From high-altitude training to mileage in boats, the team will go through rounds of testing and trialling to get the squad ready for one of the biggest years of their lives.
--------
The Road to Tokyo is a fascinating behind the scenes documentary into the commitment of the elite Olympic and Paralympic rowing squads. The three, 30-minute episodes follows the GB Rowing Team and tells the athlete’s stories as they strive for selection for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This is far and away the best film I have seen from British Rowing. The pain and hope, despair and triumph of the athlete's stories make it unexpectedly emotional. That drone shot of the, hugely likeable, Rebecca Edwards lifting the tractor tyre in Part 2 will stay with me for a long time. Just going from the credits, Adam Heayberd and Craig Murdoch deserve recognition for excellent photography and production values - as does the whole team, British Rowing members included.
Love the 2k test footage. Made my HR fear spike.
noob
fr I start breathing faster just watching 2ks
Seeing the 2k erg test sequence gave me flashbacks to my JV crew days in high school. That year I rowed faster every 2k I rowed... It became so mental not wanting to row a slower time... Often I'd finish and lean over and throw up... Ended at 7:04 my fastest row that season. Seeing these guys prep with much bigger stakes made me appreciate it viscerally
I appreciate the zoom in on the lone drop of sweat hanging from the freckled nipple at 9:00
Best rowing vid ever seen, from a late eighties (no not age) major west U.S. coast college 3rd boat rower seeking to make sense of why it continues to be so important to me and how I need to get off my royal ass and start again. I bought an old water rower a month ago. Water smells but ha who cares eh?
the music adds so much gravity to the video. love it!
thought the same thing.
Yeah gb
Bring it home 💪🏼

What an awesome series. Let’s go team GB 🇬🇧
Such a great video definitely gonna send this to my crew lol
What do you mean the women's 4 there's no stand out crew..... the Australians and Netherlands have been clearly infront of the field by a mile!
Cam Buchan at 22:54
Fascinating so much effort went into the training only for 6 4th place finishes
Hello, first i wanna tell you, that the video is really nice and cant wait to see full series :) i have a question; at minute 07:20-07:30 there is a rower with safety supports on the side, what is it called and where can i find it to buy, or is it custom made? Sincerly chris
They are floaters for balance, it's for paralympic rowing. It's not adviced to use them unless you are disabled

It’s coming home ☺️👑
sorry
Great work, beautiful film
I'm still for France though
We miss Jurgen Grobler. Come back all is forgiven.
Its chewsday innit??
Why do some bring the handle up high onto the chest? I thought it was to the bottom the chest?
It is not something that would go well in the boat. However, on an erg, you can squeeze a little bit of extra length that way. Since the athletes are judged based on erg scores, they do everything they can to secure the smallest of advantages. Drawing the handle high is one of those small tweaks.
22:40 sprint
what was the first opening song?

Run like Hell by Lincoln Grounds and Thomm Jutz
5:20 exciting (grunts)
Shame GB Rowing are brutal these games
Seat racing where I went to school wasn't a public thing rowers would know (I would have killed myself), only the fog and cigarette smoke of the coach were privy.
Yeah the videography is great but this documentary is utterly unintelligible in all other respects
kinda shit do all this production and lose in tokyo
