Spanish is a Latin derivative language, particularly from a type of Latin called “Vulgar Latin”, it is much more tonal than English because of that. English is a Germanic language with many of the same roots as modern German. Of course much of our English vocabulary is French, Greek, Latin, Arabic etc as everyone knows, but the *sound* of English takes the inflection of Germanic languages, which is why in comparison, Spanish sounds much more light and musical.

I work in the Latin music industry in Miami as an audio engineer and listening to Tom in Spanish has helped so much. I use Babbel as well. I can’t write in Spanish yet but I understand most when people are talking to me.

You’ll get it quickly. Everything is pronounced the way it’s spelled. Just gotta follow the 5 vowel sounds Spanish uses and not deviate from it.

I’m not Peruvian but I can tell you with certainty Tom sounds very Peruvian when he speaks. The tone in which he speaks gives it away.

So as someone who has an advantage learning Spanish with many Spanish speaking relatives and having understood Spanish my whole life. I struggle with saying English words when speaking Spanish with someone. I say those words with an unnecessary accent that I don’t have when speaking English normally. Hahaha “Hoy en la tarde, fuimos a ‘Gualmar’ para levantar tortillas”

There're so many dialects.... each country has it's own jargon, just learn the basics.... some of his guests use heavy jargon sometimes.

Listen to alot of Spanish music for a long time. You'll get the hang of it.
