if you booted up a mac and held ctrl+r and then went to disk utility then you could restore the macs hard drive from the USB drive (with mountain lion.dmg file on it) would you be able to boot it up from the hard drive?

how about I don't have other macbook I'm only using one macbook that "Can't download the additional components error" everytime I reinstall it using disk utility, how can I make a bootable installer since my other computer is windows, please help. I also did try using windows to burn dmg file of macosxlion using transmac , then it can't read after hitting option key

I dont even know what you're in to format or partition the USB drive. I'm in disc utility but it looks different than yours. No matter what file system I choose the partition button is greyed out.

Hi. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch, it won’t show my usb installer nor my ssd when I power on and option key, But when I do internet recovery mode (command R / option + command R) I see my ssd( new clean ssd) and my usb install drive.
The issue with internet recovery is that the Mac OS won’t finish downloading it just stops at any random times, sometimes it’s 2 minutes left, or 10 minutes etc..
This is so frustrating please help 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

every time i want to restore there is always pop up that i don't have enough space in my flash disk but i used 15 gigs of flash disk

I watched. Followed every step. Tried it again. Something didn't work with the steps. There must be a difference between my computer configuration and yours or I wouldn't have had to find another guide.

Make sure you are dragging it in specific location.. The dmg file will be in source at destination will be your pendrive.
