After a few failed attempts of running some commands in Terminal this was wayy easier and fluent than my method! Worked great thanks]s for the video!!

HELPFUL HINT: It will not let me partition my Sandisk 16GB USB drive. I found a fix:
When using Disk Utility, if you are unable to choose the scheme for your drive (GUID, MBR), go up to the top and choose 'View', then 'Show all Devices'. This will allow you to chose the ROOT, most likely right above the drive you were initially clicking on. From here it will allow you to choose GUID when you erase the drive.

where do you put the flash drive in.. i tried the usb port on the keyboard and the system didn't recognize anything there.. ttyl, this would solve so many problems if my trusty Mac G4 PowerPPC running OSX 10.4.11 would link up to a flash drive..
Do you have a video showing how to create a bootable drive using El Capitan? The disk utility app is a bit different on there than it is on the OS you used for the tutorial. I'm looking to downgrade my OS from El Capitan back to Snow Leopard.
I know im 7 years late but im in the exact same boat. Wanna downgrade my moms el capitan 2007 imac to snow leopard cuz snow leopard ran better.

Unless your mac does not boot and will not boot from dvd, then making a usb from a dvd using os x is not possible.
How about making usb from os x 10.4 install dvd using windows?

Trying to follow your tutorial to downgrade one of my my internal drives back to SnowLeopard there are the following issues
1-st Once I erase my 64GB pendrive creating the two partitions as suggested, the second partition I created the INFO button does not tells me the partition is an APPLE PARTITION but it seems to stay as a APPLE EXTENDED partition
2-nd Opening a SNOW LEOPARD disk or SNOW LEOPARD disk IMAGE there are no INSTALL ESD files
The restore function works anyhow, but the flash drive doesn't boot
ANy hints?

Ok Our 2009 Mac we erased everything so we need to install iOS 10.5 back on it. How do we download 10.5 when the Mac has been erased? Can we format it and download off a normal PC ?

2007 macbook Core 2 Duo. EMC 2139
Installed Neverware's Cloudready Chrome (which runs quite well on this).
Decided to uninstall but no uninstall option meaning I had to wipe the internal SSD using another computer as below...
Booted into OS/X from USB-HDD (2011 macbook pro's original HDD now in USB case).
Booted. Wiped internal SSD (mac os extended journaled) using OS/X's disc utility.
Now 2007 macbook has no operating system.
Tried to boot from Linux USB and DVD (to move to Linux).
Screen goes white and has movable mouse cursor, but no UEFI boot menu.
Assumed no OS/X and/or Bootcamp was necessary to boot into another O/S from USB.
Tried to use mac recovery start up keys.
Screen shows folder image with a question mark inside it.
Any advice welcome thanks.
when i clicked on my downloaded snow leopard .dmg file thing poped up little window where snow leopard is drawn with do not sing. basically "install" thing is crossed because I'm doing this from a new version of OS x mavericks? by the way i have a mid 2010 macbook pro

I want to Get a NEW 1 tb drive for my g5 and install Tiger OS 10.4 on it. SO do I need to make the hard drive formatted for a mac? or that does not matter? I have the APPLE Tiger software to Install.

I am getting a new Seagate 1 TB drive that is backwards compatible to the mother board bus speeds.
I also have Final Cut Pro 5. THe machine only has a 160 GB drive and is used only to CAPTURE fire wire video from a Camera Mixer using the FC 5 and then make 1 file of it 16gb and then Dump that to a Flash drive and take Home to EDIT on another newer Laptop Mac and a newer F C version and all works.
Just want a Newer Drive and larger to save some video for a while before Deleting.

please help me dear! i can´t boot to install mac os 10.4 in my mac g4, just the HD is avaliable when i boot the machine and turn "c" key, the pen driver is also not avaliable, is there some trick to configure in OS system before? (i´m using a burned iso dvd from net maked on a pc, and a pc usb keyboard)

what happens if you get an error? 'restore failure" (-119930868) I partitioned a usb (8gb... I gave the folder 6.5gb) and a SD card (i gave the folder 8, then 16gb when it gave me an error).

This method WILL NOT WORK for OS versions below Snow Leopard.

acguevara acguevara, in short, because the older OSs were not designed to be installed that way. It can be done using a “hack”/workaround in which you boot into open firmware but the method you demonstrate only works for OS 10.6 and up.

yes, I know on PPC don´t work for usb. only Firewire and Hard disk
actually some PPC Macs do support booting from a usb I was able to use a bootable usb on my powermac G4, G5, and G5 Imac
