How to Create a Mac OS USB Boot Drive on Windows
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2024
- This tutorial will help you create a bootable USB flash drive for your Mac on a Windows computer using Transmac.
Please visit www.kevinmuldoon.com/create-m... for a more comprehensive overview of the steps you need to perform.
In order for this to work, you need a USB flash drive. The one I used in my tutorial was 16GB in size, but it should work with any flash drive that is 8GB in size or higher.
Open command prompt as an administrator and enter the following commands to convert your USB drive from MBR to GPT format:
diskpart
list disk
select disk X (where X is the number of your USB flash drive)
clean
convert GPT
create partition primary
Transmac can be downloaded from AcuteSystems.com at www.acutesystems.com/scrtm.htm
The application costs a one-off fee of £59, however, you can use Transmac without any restrictions for 15 days. That's more than enough time to do what you need to do.
Another program that you might find useful is HFS+ for Windows (by Paragon Software). It's available at www.kevinmuldoon.com/go/parag... and is compatible with Apple Boot Camp software. It also gives direct read and write access to Mac partitions.
The DMG file for Mac OS X can now be downloaded free of charge from Apple.
Mac OS X El Capitan - support.apple.com/en-gb/HT206886
Mac OS X macOS Catalina - support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201475
Mac OS Downloads - support.apple.com/en_US/downl...
Once you have your USB boot drive, you can boot up from the drive by inserting the USB drive into your Mac and then pressing the option (⌥) key as soon as your computer loads. This will allow you to select which drive you boot from.
If you see the no/prohibited/forbidden symbol after selecting your USB drive to boot (it's like a circle with a line through it i.e. ø), try and go back into the recovery area by pressing command and R when your Mac is loading and unmounting the drive.
There is a good discussion about this issue at forums.macrumors.com/threads/w...
Some people had better luck entering into safe mode using command and S - see the discussion at forums.macrumors.com/threads/c...
There is a lot of great information about the prohibited symbol at bombich.com/kb/ccc4/help-my-c... too.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this so please leave a comment below. As always, if you enjoyed the video, please click like, share, and subscribe :)
Thanks guys.

ikr same. all of the other tutorials i saw, said to download it on another mac.

Thanks Kev, even for an IT minded person like myself having these steps nice and simply laid out just saves a lot of time and is much appreciated.
You're welcome. Glad you found them useful.
How did you download I couldn’t find macdrug
This was a huge time saving for me. An elderly lady had issues with her iMac and I didn't know how to rescue the iMac without a disk. Thank you so much for your most informative video.
Command + R on boot up, you will get into recovery mode and can restore the device with internet connection.

Thank you so much. Took me forever to find a decent tutorial on this. If only I had but more than one like to give

Hey there Kevin! Thank you soooo much for this awesome video! It was so easy to follow with simple instructions, not like some others out there. It took me around 5 minutes to create the bootable USB. Thanks again so much mate!!

great contribution for those who despite all the efforts could´t make it until we saw this really solution, congratulations
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Am having to reinstall Mac OS High Sierra, it's been a nightmare Downloading from the apple store download would hang. I had to buy a copy via ebay then for nearly two weeks I had constant failed to download message from Google. And I was having to re download every time a download was interrupted. This was due to having a rubbish broadband service from BT !
+Nicholas Logan Oh man that sucks. I always found downloads from Apple to be really slow too, regardless of the speed of my internet connection.
Did you get it resolved in the end?
Thanks so much for this tutorial, really got me out of boiling water.

For everyone having issues with the USB not appearing, you need to make sure you have used a 2.0 USB and not a 3.0. You also want to make sure that the OS version you are installing is the one that your computer came with as factory new.
