That first semi sure got himself into a pickle. Love that you named your telehandler Igor, lol. Looking forward to this build. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks George, Igor is my right hand man and the one I usually keep at home, Lurch is the one from the modern house and they just got swapped out, Igor is home now and I can get stuff done again:-)
Hey Jake Great video as always. I really like that you let us know and explain what you’re doing or about to do. Also that I can hear you very well. Let me say that crane is a lot bigger than what it looks. Those truckers shouldn’t have to worry if you’re around, you are a beast operating that equipment, lol 😆 Looking forward to the beginning of the build Jake. You take care out there. Thank you very much.
Thanks Joe:-) I'm looking forward to this build as well. It's like a treat after a long run of being over scheduled. It might get a little warm up there but it seems to stay breezy during the day.
Another pleasant slot of time spent with watching Jake in his multitude of roles, traffic controller, staging coordinator, purchasing agent and crane operator, relocation agent and a whole sleugh of other roles, many of which you never see since they are all done by different people. That was a lot of fun.
Yeah that was a rough one, I know everyone onsite that day at one point or another had days like that before so we all just dug in and got him fixed up:-) Second driver was a rockstar though.
Looks like another adventure Jake! Getting all the material on site was no easy job! This looks like another interesting job! Standing by for your next post!
As always great video. Id really like to see your subscriber list grow. Your content is a lot different and intresting as compared to other builder/ fabricator videos.
Hey Jake always good to start a new project no matter how much you have to go through An old timer once told me by its very nature construction jobs are only temporary
They are that. A builder friend once told me that you're never really working on the job at hand rather you are always working on your next job. He makess a good point.
Is the crane 240v? Love the Transformer/forklift/road grader/piledriver segment! LOL . Anxious to see how the barn kit looks. I built a few garage kits, they didn't allow for any 2x4 bracing. So I ordered extra 16', then used them, pulled the nails then returned them, with complaints about the nail holes! LOL
Not sure how many parts this will have, but I'm looking forward to each one of them. BTW Enjoyed the use of the bungy cord holding the hooks onto the counterweights (Every day can be a school day)
I'm not sure either yet Paul. It's pretty easy for me to forsee 10 in any case. It's going to be a couple vids sorting and assembling stuff before I get anything in the air. Should be a good one:-)
@@ShredPile 10 sounds good, but it really doesn't matter, I look forward to whatever you post. Pre-staging the materials in the strategic sequences will save a lot of effort later, but if Murphy's law comes into play there will be some adjusting to that strategy. Hope the weather gives you more of a break this time around.
Hi Jake nice to see a new project start. How long is the entryway? it's just for this house ? Seem your drone battery was a little short for catching all the deployment of the crane :-0
It's probably 1/4 mile anyways, not really sure. The house is higher on the hill with a better view. this is just a shop barn building. The drone shot worked out really well. It wasn't a full battery but I guessed I had enough time to run it up and catch the unloading which it just barely did and started descending itself with near perfect cinematic timing :-) I was only there that morning to unload the counterweights and leave and everything else got so hectic I didn't have time to film.
For maximum reach, the slab could be poured with four bolting points right in the middle, and the crane could build all around itself. I wonder if it could fold down while mostly inside a two or three story structure. Then close the opening without the crane.
Whereas I have folded it down into the middle of a big riding areana before there's a couple things that wouldn't work with your Idea. First off it's a counter weighted crane and not a counter balanced crane. Bolting the feet down would not eliminate the need for the counterweights. it all just perches on the turntable which is not designed or built to withstand that kind of load. As it sits, it reaches most of the building and will still let me reach back out to grab material without needing to use the forklift too much as long as I spread the wood out right. I read this comment earlier today at work and really liked the thought of a smaller built counter balanced tower crane on larger residential builds. You could just set it up, build the house around it and then crane the boom off the top when your done and then pull the mast section before closing it up. We should make the first one!
As a city slicker looking at what feels like alien tech, I wondered to myself if you'd be able to move the rear of that big rig that was jack-knifed... only to see you do just that on it's way out. Good stuff! Question- is the Modern House project, connected to this barn project? If they're not, are they in the same (or similar) area? Also... What a VIEW that barn will have! Sheesh! Keep up the kick ass work!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Your wondering about the semi was entirely reasonable. It was only the fact that it was an all aluminum trailer that made it go that smooth. If it was steel or a hybrid I could still do it but it's a little more involved. The modern house is a completely unrelated project 40-45 minutes away so in the same general vicinity. Little bit more of a drive for me but that's the game I guess:-)
That's a nice peice of property $$..hey I got my semi stuck coming around the corner can you help me out,oh but hurry there is a cement truck coming behind me too!wow what can go wrong..Will go wrong! Good thing you were there! Can't wait for the newest videos on the build too come out! Will you have a video next Thursday on this?I always look forward too Thursday to watch your episodes!
Lol, yeah that was a little out of control but everyone was pro about it including the driver and we just went on with things. No drama:-) I am not sure if I will or not because im not up there full time yet. I've been working all week on a job I can't film so I might be scrapping for footage to salvage an episode. We will see but in the meantime I appreciate the continued support!
The Model is a 636 so 6000# with 36" reach but It will lift maybe 25% more if I need it to. I have an identical one with foam filled or solid tires that will lift a little more because of the extra stability and counter weight that the tires add.
WOW that tower crane seems to go up without much effort. Is this site in The great NW? I guess the kit cones from Legacy, but never heard of them. Ron USCG RET
Jake. I told you specifically not to put me in your video. Lawyer up bro. I see my truck number in this and I have three lawyers in my family. Game on.
Appologies Miles but I don't have a clue. Not in the least because I'm postive that it's out of my league:-) I will say that there always seems to be stuff like this available but not so much in this particular county which has pretty stringent land use restrictions. It is extremely representitive of the area though but you have to remember the rain and snow we just came out of which changes a lot on a jobsite like this one:-)
Here we go a new project! Great to watch the artist in play.
Telehandler skills!
Thanks for the video, always fascinating.
My pleasure Mark

That is quite a ballet, putting the crane away!
It's like a giant balanced yoga pose to let itself down. Amazing engineering.

I always learn something useful here.
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Another work in paradise
I knew it was nice up there but when I looked at the first footage I was even more impressed. It's gorgeous. Thanks for checking in:-)
That's the thickest slab I've ever seen for a barn it's got to be 12 inches thick if not more.
Its actually only 4" but it on a stemwall and footing. Our frost line here is only 20" so you'll see a lot of slabs with thickened edges too.

It is 240v. It draws the most amps when setting it up and even then it's only about 9amps which is slightly more than half of a bogged down skilsaw
